# Which business process management tools handle cross-departmental workflows well and keep data flowing between teams without manual handoffs?

The pain point I keep coming back to is what happens when a process moves from procurement to finance to legal and the data has to follow.

For teams comparing business process management tools, I’d group the options by workflow need:

Manual handoffs usually survive not because the tool can't automate them, but because each department owns its own little system and nobody wants to give up control. The tech is the easy part, the org design is the hard part. Before tooling, map where a process actually stops and waits for someone to re-key something, that's your handoff tax. Are the gaps because systems don't talk, or because teams don't trust each other's data? Only one of those is a software problem.
