# Which background check tools cover international contractor screening from one platform rather than making you stitch together country-specific providers?

I am looking for background check tools, specifically for international coverage, where a company needs to screen contractors in multiple countries from a single platform without managing separate vendor relationships per country.

Zinc: Has direct government database integrations (HMRC in the UK), providing instant verification rather than manual processing for covered markets. The platform handles right-to-work checks, employment verification, criminal history, and reference checks across international locations within the same workflow and interface.

HireRight: Has the broadest geographic coverage in the category. Criminal background checks, employment verification, education verification, MVR, and I-9 E-Verify are all managed through one interface across global locations.

Cisive: International coverage as part of a compliance-first platform specializing in heavily regulated industries. For organizations in transportation, healthcare, and financial services that need to hire internationally while maintaining sector-specific compliance standards, Cisive's specialized focus on regulated industries provides both geographic coverage and the compliance expertise that generic international screening platforms lack.

DISA Global Solutions: International coverage alongside DOT and transportation compliance monitoring, which matters for logistics and transportation companies with drivers or contractors operating across multiple countries. The platform's integration library and compliance monitoring capabilities extend to international screening contexts.

Checkr: For teams screening contractors primarily in the US with occasional international hires, Checkr covers the US side comprehensively. For teams where international contractor screening is the primary use case, the US-first architecture is a meaningful limitation.

Is it criminal record access in specific countries, employment verification requiring local-language contacts, or right-to-work verification requirements that a US-primary platform doesn't support?

For us it's almost always employment verification that needs a local-language contact. Criminal record databases tend to have some kind of digital access almost everywhere, but confirming past employment in a country where the HR contact only responds in their local language is the part that still needs a human in the loop.

Employment verification across countries feels like the area where local differences could create the most work. Zinc stands out to me because right-to-work, employment, criminal history, and reference checks can all sit within the same international screening workflow.

Coverage is the obvious axis, but turnaround time is the one that quietly shapes the hiring process. A check that is supported in a country but takes three weeks there and two days somewhere else means start dates can't be standardised, and that becomes a scheduling conversation with hiring managers rather than a procurement one. Has anyone seen a platform surface expected turnaround per country upfront, before you commit to running the check?

Zinc handling multiple countries in one flow sounds great, but I’ve seen coverage look strong on paper and then break down in edge cases. Usually, it’s one or two countries where things still need a workaround.
