The fact that social media is critical for e-commerce is obvious. There are billions of users on social media platforms, and many of them buy online. It is estimated that the number of social media users worldwide will reach 5.85 billion by 2027. In addition, sellers also use social media to share and promote their products—the value of social commerce sales worldwide is estimated at 2.9 trillion dollars by 2026.

If you sell online, you surely use an e-commerce platform or shopping cart software to create and manage your online store, track inventory and payments, and maybe personalize your buyers’ shopping experience. But your competitors also use similar tools—so what is your competitive advantage?

If you are reading this, you have internet access and have probably already tried to buy something online. That's what e-commerce is about, at least from a buyer perspective. When it comes to sellers, things can be a lot more complicated.

[Which shopping cart platforms scale reliably as a growing ecommerce team expands its catalog, adds more traffic, and needs more advanced features without platform migration?](/discussions/which-shopping-cart-platforms-scale-reliably-as-a-growing-ecommerce-team-expands-its-catalog-adds-more-traffic-and-needs-more-advanced-features-without-platform-migration)

Hi G2 users, shopping cart platforms that scale reliably should support a growing ecommerce team as it expands its catalog, adds more traffic, and needs more advanced features without platform migration.

These options in the[](https://www.g2.com/categories/shopping-cart)[shopping cart](https://www.g2.com/categories/shopping-cart) category represent different stages of growth:

- [**Salesforce B2C Commerce**](https://www.g2.com/products/salesforce-b2c-commerce/reviews): Best suited to high-volume teams managing regional storefronts and major traffic spikes. Its cost becomes significant as the business scales.
- **Adobe Commerce** : Well suited to complex catalogs, pricing structures, and multi-store operations. Its maintenance requirements tend to grow alongside those capabilities.
- [**Shopware**](https://www.g2.com/products/shopware/reviews): A modular, API-first option for traditional and headless commerce. Plugin-heavy environments and major upgrades still require planning.
- [**Ecwid**](https://www.g2.com/products/ecwid/reviews): Suitable for meaningful growth before enterprise requirements emerge. Reviewers acknowledge that very high-revenue stores may eventually outgrow it.

The key difference appears to be not whether these tools can scale, but how much cost, technical work, and operational complexity they introduce along the way.

Which platform has supported your growth without forcing workarounds, and what limitation came closest to triggering a migration?

The honest answer is that almost every platform is fine until it isn't. The real question is what breaks first, performance, pricing, or the complexity of maintaining it. I'm curious whether teams that stuck with one platform long-term did it because it genuinely scaled or just because the migration cost was too scary to consider.

[Shopware vs Adobe Commerce for a mid-size retailer: which handles large catalogs without hitting a scalability ceiling?](/discussions/shopware-vs-adobe-commerce-for-a-mid-size-retailer-which-handles-large-catalogs-without-hitting-a-scalability-ceiling)

Hey G2, Shopware vs Adobe Commerce for a mid-size retailer is ultimately a comparison of which handles large catalogs without hitting a scalability ceiling. I’m looking at both platform performance and the operational effort required to maintain that scale.

The mid-market[](https://www.g2.com/categories/shopping-cart)[shopping cart](https://www.g2.com/categories/shopping-cart) reviews point to two different strengths:

- [**Shopware**](https://www.g2.com/products/shopware/reviews) connects product and variant management with rule builders, flow builders, and an API-first architecture that reviewers generally find easier to navigate.
- [**Adobe Commerce**](https://www.g2.com/products/adobe-commerce-formerly-magento-commerce/reviews) supports high SKU counts, complex pricing, multiple stores, campaign staging, and established ERP and CRM connections.

Shopware tends to receive stronger feedback for day-to-day backend usability. Some reviewers have reported slowdowns with large datasets, although newer versions have reportedly addressed parts of this issue.

Adobe Commerce receives more credit for deep configuration and integration maturity. The recurring tradeoff is developer dependency, including for changes operational teams may expect to handle themselves.

For retailers working with tens of thousands of SKUs, which became the bigger constraint over time: platform performance or the amount of technical work needed to manage the catalog?

From what I've seen, Shopware is a lot more manageable for a mid-size team that doesn't have a dedicated developer on retainer. Adobe Commerce can do more but "can do more" often means "requires someone to configure that more." If your catalog is large but your ops team is lean, Shopware's backend is just less painful to work in day to day.

[What shopping cart software do serious ecommerce brands switch to when they have outgrown a basic plugin and need a more scalable solution?](/discussions/what-shopping-cart-software-do-serious-ecommerce-brands-switch-to-when-they-have-outgrown-a-basic-plugin-and-need-a-more-scalable-solution)

Hello everyone, serious ecommerce brands that have outgrown a basic plugin need shopping cart software that offers a more scalable solution without replacing one set of limitations with another. I’m researching what teams actually prioritize during that move.

What I’m hoping to find:

- Reliable performance with larger catalogs and heavier traffic
- Better control over pricing, promotions, and storefronts
- Integrations that can support existing operations
- A maintenance burden that matches the team’s technical resources

Several platforms in the[](https://www.g2.com/categories/shopping-cart)[shopping cart](https://www.g2.com/categories/shopping-cart) category come up frequently:

- [**Adobe Commerce**](https://www.g2.com/products/adobe-commerce-formerly-magento-commerce/reviews) supports large catalogs, complex pricing, multiple stores, and high traffic. Reviewers also stress the need for ongoing developer involvement.
- [**Salesforce B2C Commerce**](https://www.g2.com/products/salesforce-b2c-commerce/reviews) handles regional storefronts, traffic spikes, and connected customer operations, but implementation and GMV-based pricing require planning.
- [**Shopware**](https://www.g2.com/products/shopware/reviews) is often considered by European brands seeking a Magento alternative. Advanced customization still needs technical resources.
- [**ThriveCart**](https://www.g2.com/products/thrivecart/reviews) is the digital-product exception, where it can replace WooCommerce and separate course tools.

For teams that completed this migration, which part caused the most disruption: product data, integrations, promotions, or staff training?

The underrated part of outgrowing WooCommerce isn't the platform itself, it's everything around it. Promotions logic, multi-warehouse inventory, custom pricing rules, that stuff gets unwieldy fast. Most brands don't realize they need a proper platform until something breaks at the worst possible time, usually during a sale or a traffic spike.
