The fact that social media is critical for e-commerce is obvious. There are billions of users on social media platforms, and many of them buy online. It is estimated that the number of social media users worldwide will reach 5.85 billion by 2027. In addition, sellers also use social media to share and promote their products—the value of social commerce sales worldwide is estimated at 2.9 trillion dollars by 2026.

If you sell online, you surely use an e-commerce platform or shopping cart software to create and manage your online store, track inventory and payments, and maybe personalize your buyers’ shopping experience. But your competitors also use similar tools—so what is your competitive advantage?

If you are reading this, you have internet access and have probably already tried to buy something online. That's what e-commerce is about, at least from a buyer perspective. When it comes to sellers, things can be a lot more complicated.

[Ecwid vs PrestaShop for a small online store: which is easier to set up and grow with?](/discussions/ecwid-vs-prestashop-for-a-small-online-store-which-is-easier-to-set-up-and-grow-with)

Hi everyone, Ecwid vs PrestaShop for a small online store comes down to which is easier to set up and grow with. I’m comparing the two because one appears to prioritize speed, while the other offers more control as requirements expand.

Here is the clearest distinction I found in the[](https://www.g2.com/categories/shopping-cart)[shopping cart](https://www.g2.com/categories/shopping-cart) category:

- [**Ecwid**](https://www.g2.com/products/ecwid/reviews) connects product management, payments, and multichannel selling in a backend that small-business reviewers describe as easy to manage without code.
- [**PrestaShop**](https://www.g2.com/products/prestashop/reviews) supports larger catalogs, currencies, languages, and more complex product structures, but usually requires more configuration and paid modules.

Ecwid appears easier for getting a store live quickly. Reviewers also appreciate managing Facebook, Instagram, and Amazon sales from one place. Its smaller integration ecosystem is the main limitation raised.

PrestaShop gives stores more freedom to customize and scale their catalog. The tradeoff is that module costs and technical work can increase as the setup becomes more advanced.

For anyone who has grown a store on either platform, did Ecwid eventually become restrictive, or did PrestaShop’s extra flexibility justify the added maintenance?

People underestimate how quickly PrestaShop's "free" label stops being true. Once you start adding paid modules for things you assumed were standard, the cost creeps up fast. Ecwid's more predictable on pricing, but you will hit walls eventually if the store grows a lot. Kind of depends on whether you'd rather deal with cost surprises or feature limits.

[What is the easiest shopping cart software for a small online boutique that is not particularly technical and just needs something that looks good and works reliably?](/discussions/what-is-the-easiest-shopping-cart-software-for-a-small-online-boutique-that-is-not-particularly-technical-and-just-needs-something-that-looks-good-and-works-reliably)

Hello G2 community, the easiest shopping cart software for a small online boutique that is not particularly technical should look good, work reliably, and stay manageable without constant technical help.

Small-business reviews in the[](https://www.g2.com/categories/shopping-cart)[shopping cart](https://www.g2.com/categories/shopping-cart) category point to these options:

- [**Ecwid**](https://www.g2.com/products/ecwid/reviews) (4.7 stars, 405 reviews): Best suited to boutiques that want quick setup and simple product management. Reviewers also like being able to add it to an existing site instead of rebuilding one.
- [**Square Online (formerly Weebly)**](https://www.g2.com/products/square-online-formerly-weebly/reviews) (4.2 stars, 482 reviews): A practical fit for sellers already using Square payments. The drag-and-drop experience is approachable, though design and SEO flexibility are more limited.
- [**PrestaShop**](https://www.g2.com/products/prestashop/reviews) (4.3 stars, 160 reviews): Better suited to stores that want multilingual support and access to a broad module library. Some technical comfort becomes more useful as the store grows.
- [**ThriveCart**](https://www.g2.com/products/thrivecart/reviews) (4.6 stars, 31 reviews): Strong for digital products and checkout pages, but less suitable for a traditional boutique catalog.

For anyone managing a boutique on Ecwid or Square Online, which one has been easier to keep visually polished and reliable after the initial launch?

Honestly Ecwid was the one I kept coming back to when I was setting up my sister's small clothing store. She's not technical at all and the whole "add it to your existing site" thing meant we didn't have to blow up what she already had. It's not flashy but it just works, and she hasn't called me in a panic once.

[What shopping cart software is cheap but reliable and works well with WordPress and Stripe for a small store that does not want to over-engineer its stack?](/discussions/what-shopping-cart-software-is-cheap-but-reliable-and-works-well-with-wordpress-and-stripe-for-a-small-store-that-does-not-want-to-over-engineer-its-stack)

Hey G2 users, I’m researching shopping cart software that is cheap but reliable and works well with WordPress and Stripe for a small store that does not want to over-engineer its stack.

Among the options in the[](https://www.g2.com/categories/shopping-cart)[shopping cart](https://www.g2.com/categories/shopping-cart) category, these four seem most relevant:

1. [**Ecwid**](https://www.g2.com/products/ecwid/reviews) is known for fitting into an existing WordPress website with minimal disruption. Stripe support is standard, but do recent pricing increases change its value for a small store?
2. [**OpenCart**](https://www.g2.com/products/opencart/reviews) provides products, inventory, orders, and several payment gateways without a subscription fee. Is its older interface manageable without developer support?
3. [**PrestaShop**](https://www.g2.com/products/prestashop/reviews) is free to install and supports Stripe. How quickly do paid modules make the final cost less predictable?
4. [**ThriveCart**](https://www.g2.com/products/thrivecart/reviews) offers Stripe and PayPal integrations with a one-time fee. It is better suited to digital products than a full physical catalog.

Which option has delivered the lowest real cost after hosting, extensions, maintenance, and payment setup are included?

OpenCart is worth a look if you really don't want a monthly fee, but the interface feels pretty dated and you'll likely spend time figuring things out that just work out of the box elsewhere. PrestaShop is similar, technically free but the paid modules add up. Ecwid's probably the smoothest WordPress fit of the three, just know the free tier is pretty limited and the pricing has gotten less friendly lately.
