Tagaris is an IT asset register for internal IT teams, MSPs and anyone who has outgrown the spreadsheet. Run it on your own server with Docker, or ask us and we will host a managed instance for you. It tracks what you own, where it is, who has it and whether it is still under warranty, and it keeps a dated history of every change.
THE REGISTER
Hardware, software licences, warranties and assignments live in one place, searchable, filterable and sortable. An asset can belong to a person, a location, both or neither, and check-out and check-in are recorded in its history. Every asset carries photos, with location metadata stripped on upload, and attachments such as receipts, invoices, warranty certificates and manuals.
Serial numbers do some work for you. Set the manufacturer and the serial field knows what to expect, a Dell service tag being seven characters and a Lenovo serial eight. The asset page links straight to that manufacturer's warranty lookup. Type a known Apple model number such as A2338 and Tagaris offers to fill in the name, model and category. This is local, with no third-party calls and no scraping. Duplicate serial and MAC addresses are flagged on create and on import.
Custom fields and custom status labels are set per organisation, and starter categories, manufacturers and templates are seeded on first run so the register is usable on day one.
LOCATIONS, QR LABELS AND PHYSICAL AUDITS
Assets belong to places at least as often as to people, so locations are first class. They form a tree: put a building at the top, rooms beneath it, and asset counts roll up the branches so a site total is one glance.
Pick assets or rooms and print a sheet of QR labels. Each code opens that record. Stick one on the comms room door, scan it, see what should be inside, and bulk-move anything that has wandered off in a single action with one history entry per asset. A room audit stops being an afternoon job.
The stock-take workflow lists what is due for audit with its last audited date, and records each confirmation against the asset.
THE MOBILE APPS
Free apps for iPhone, iPad and Android pair with your own server and sign in exactly as the browser does, including two-factor authentication and single sign-on. Scan a label to open an asset, change its whereabouts or status, log maintenance, raise a ticket, or create a new asset from a serial number that is not yet in the register.
Audit mode walks a room label by label and works with no signal: scans wait on the phone and sync when the server is reachable, with the time of the scan preserved. Buttons follow each person's permissions. The apps work on the free tier. The newest features need Tagaris 2.6.0 or later on the server.
STOCK, MONEY AND UPKEEP
Beyond fixed assets, Tagaris tracks accessories checked out to people, components installed into machines, and consumables that decrement as they are issued. Each has a minimum quantity, so the daily digest warns about low stock before you run out of docks, cables or toner.
Straight-line depreciation runs per category, with a current book value and an asset value report. Disposal records capture the method, the proceeds and the gain or loss. Maintenance records sit on the asset, and a daily email digest covers renewals due, contracts to act on, new issues and assets past their replacement age.
ISSUES AND A FORM FOR EVERYONE ELSE
Faults, change requests, new equipment and lost items are tracked against the asset they concern, with a status, a category you define, a priority, an assignee and a thread of notes. It is deliberately small: no SLAs, queues or approvals. Reporting an issue can set the asset to Repair, and resolving it offers to put the status back and log the repair with its cost.
Most people who notice a fault have no login and should not need one. The staff form is a page anyone with the link can use. It shows nothing from the register and gives the same reply whether or not the asset tag matched. Scanning a QR label while signed out offers to report an issue with that item, so every label already on your kit becomes a way to report a fault. The form can run on a hostname of its own with your organisation's name and logo.
VENDORS, PURCHASE ORDERS AND CONTRACTS
Record who you buy from, what is on order and the last day you can give notice. Receiving a purchase order creates the assets from a grid of serial numbers, with the vendor, unit price and purchase date carried over, or tops up stock, or creates a software licence. Part deliveries are tracked and the order moves from Ordered to Part received to Received by itself.
Contracts cover support, maintenance, leases, extended warranties and subscriptions. Everything is keyed on the act-by date, the end date less the notice period, which drives the status, the list order, the daily digest and the calendar feed. A covered asset shows who to call and what to quote. Who may place or cancel an order is a permission, so finance can approve spending without editing assets.
REPORTS
Ready-made reports cover assets by status, category, location, person or manufacturer, warranties and licences due, value and depreciation, disposals, and spend by vendor and by category for a period you choose. Read them, export to CSV, or print. A report builder filters the register and picks the columns, and reports can be emailed on a schedule.
INTEGRATIONS
Single sign-on uses OpenID Connect with Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, Google Workspace, Keycloak, Authentik or any other provider, with directory groups mapped to roles and access groups, and an option to require it. Jira ticketing raises and links tickets from an asset page and shows the ticket status on the asset; any other service desk can be linked by URL. Email goes over SMTP, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace. There is a documented REST API with personal and organisation keys, webhooks for Slack and Teams, and a calendar feed.
Device sync pulls enrolled devices from Microsoft Intune and Jamf Pro into a review queue, matched by serial number and then hostname, and people can be imported from Microsoft Entra ID. Both are read-only against their source, free, and still in testing.
SECURITY AND ACCESS
Two-factor authentication covers password sign-in. Roles are Admin, Editor and View only, and access groups grant individual permissions from a catalogue of twelve, so HR can take kit back from a leaver and nothing else. A person can be limited to particular sites and will see only what is there. An organisation-wide audit log names who changed what, with CSV export. Personal API keys are capped at each person's permissions.
YOUR DATA STAYS YOURS
Tagaris is a register, not an agent. It does not scan your network, watch your machines or send telemetry. The one outbound call a self-hosted instance makes by default is a daily check for a newer version, which sends the version number, a random install identifier and the month the server was set up, and it can be switched off.
Scheduled backups cover the database and uploads, optionally encrypted and copied to S3-compatible storage, with restore in the browser. The whole register exports to CSV or JSON at any time.
GETTING YOUR DATA IN
Migrate from Snipe-IT or GLPI by reading the old system through its API, with a preview first and nothing created twice on a second run. CSV import has column mapping, a dry-run preview and presets for Snipe-IT and Halo.
PRICING
Every feature is free, single sign-on, the audit log, reports, the API and Jira ticketing included. The free plan is the install owner plus unlimited view-only people, with no asset limit, no export limit and no trial clock. A Team licence buys seats for the people who change things: 5, 10, 25 or 50, from 199 GBP a year. Multiple organisations on one install is a paid add-on for MSPs and group companies. Team is free to try for 30 days with no payment details.
WHO IT SUITS
Internal IT teams of roughly 5 to 500 staff, MSPs who need separate registers per client on one install, schools and charities, and homelabbers. It suits teams who want their asset data on their own infrastructure, or hosted by a named UK supplier rather than a large platform.
It is not an ITSM suite, a monitoring tool or an RMM. If you need a full service desk with SLAs and approvals, or network discovery agents, Tagaris is deliberately smaller than that.
Built and supported in the UK by Goodhall Solutions Ltd. A live demo runs the current release with no sign-up.
