There’s no doubt artificial intelligence (AI) is finding a permanent home in several industries. Whether we’re using face ID to unlock our phones, a web mapping platform to find the optimal route back home, or built-in text editor software to make sure our emails are error free, AI technology is at play. It is revolutionizing the way that we work and how we go about our daily lives.

Society evolves over time. Whether due to social, political, scientific, or technological occurrences, there are significant moments, such as the current global pandemic, that shift the way we collectively perceive and behave. To help us adapt to these shifts, there’s design. Design responds to the changing world and helps us navigate unprecedented times.

Question on: Adobe InDesign
[What other things do use Indesign for, besides designing a catalog.](/discussions/what-other-things-do-use-indesign-for-besides-designing-a-catalog)

I use Indesign mainly fro catalog design, but are there are things to use this software for to design things that I haven't thought of?

In addition to using Indesign for catalogs, I use it for flyers, brochures and even web banners. I used to design web ads primarily with Photoshop, but I prefer the freedom and flexibility of Indesign's layout capabilities. Indesign also has some robust web design templates for those who are unsure what size they need. Sometimes; however, if I need to create a gif file I will just import my completed png or jpg from Indesign to Photoshop. Indesign is also really good for indexing once you figure out how it works.

I don't know what you've already thought of. :) Here is a selection of things we make using InDesign: \* Books (design and typography) \* Billboards and other outdoor advertising displays \* Trade show booth graphics and murals \* Stationery, including business cards \* Magazine and newspaper advertisements \* Advertising handouts \* Banners and signs \* Step-and-repeat backdrops To broaden your horizons a bit and find out all the neat things InDesign can do (and how to do them!), check out InDesignSecrets.com and the InDesign Secrets podcast. The InDesign Secrets group on LinkedIn is another great resource.

Hi, checkout the interactivity side of Indesign, I’ve previously produced a iPad magazine, interactive PDFs etc. You need Adobe Digital Publishing Suite (DPS) for iPad mag to go live (expensive), but play around with object states it’s quite fun and you can use preview to see how things work. There’s a cool download for a object states assistant at www.automatication.com. Also use it for a lot of automation, running scripts etc.

Answered: Sharana Robinson on April 7, 2020

You can use Indesign for many other things than catalogs. You can create magazines, newsletters and brochures, as well as interactive documents with rich media and export to an SWF file for playback using Adobe Flash player or you, can create interactive PDF documents.

InDesign is a layout program. So anything that you need to organize on a flat visual surface is game. I try to use InDesign for layout only and other Adobe programs for their strengths as well. (Illustrator for vector images, Photoshop for image modification, etc.) . InDesign is great at quickly altering text as you can set style sheets and character attributes. For me, that's one if IDs best strengths.

Question on: Microsoft Publisher
[What is the best way to design a business card using Microsoft Publisher?](/discussions/what-is-the-best-way-to-design-a-business-card-using-microsoft-publisher)

The speed and ease of usage of Microsoft Publisher is good. I would like to return to it in the future to make minimalist projects like business cards. What is the easiest and fastest way to do so?

Answered: Tom Charles on November 29, 2022

the easiest way to design is to use Microsoft publisher, especially on projects like business cards, tarpaulins, and other simple marketing ads. Hence it is quite an advantage and more choices if you will use sophisticated applications. Just set your size either European or standards for the business cards, and from there you can manipulate the contents.

Answered: Myks Peralta on March 2, 2021

If you have some of those perforated business cards by Avery, try downloading a template made for your paper and customize that. Otherwise, you will probably be printing onto thick card stock and hand-cutting, in which case you can still use a template, or you can free yourself and design your own. I would start with two pages. Format them to match the size of the card stock onto which you'll print. Then, I would probably make some kind of grid so you get all your parts lined up. I'd fully design one card, front and back, then merge the elements and copy the whole thing into the other grid spaces. That would be a great way to make a template for yourself. It's easy to drag photos and icons into the appropriate places and edit text. I don't know of any way to apply changes to all cells in a grid, however

Answered: Chalice Weichman on October 1, 2019

Make one publishing block to scale with your business card paper or whatever size you'd like the card to be, really. It should, ideally fit on half the vertical page and, I believe 5 of them fit horizontally, making ten. Then you can make a text box and format it like you want it and place it in your main box. You can resize it in there as needed. Do the same with any other text you may want to add and with photos or graphics. You can even start out with a border inside your original box if you like and work within that. Then you can lock your card, copy it and paste it any number of times. It wont paste right on to your page. I always copy it ten times and then drag them over ti where I'd like them.

Answered: mdiane good on March 19, 2020

yes, explore publisher for best results however, for the logo, it'll be quite challenging but yes you can. for fonts and everything, for simple business cards, easily can make one using pub.
