Today, business decisions and operations are all based on data. Data becomes inaccessible when the database has a performance issue, which can negatively impact business decisions and operations. Database monitoring can keep track of the performance of databases so organizations can access data at all times.

[What are the best tools for monitoring database security events?](/discussions/what-are-the-best-tools-for-monitoring-database-security-events)

1. [Datadog](https://www.g2.com/products/datadog/reviews) - is a unified monitoring and security platform. Its database monitoring plus log analytics surface security-relevant events like spikes in failed logins, unusual query patterns, and privilege changes alongside infra/APM context to speed triage.
2. [Dynatrace](https://www.g2.com/products/dynatrace/reviews) - is an AI-powered observability suite. With Davis® correlation and the Databases app, it flags abnormal access and error surges across services and DBs, helping teams trace root causes of potential security incidents.
3. [Redgate Monitor](https://www.g2.com/products/redgate-monitor/reviews) - is a multi-platform database monitoring tool that baselines normal behavior and alerts on unusual activity across SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, and MongoDB—useful for audits and access oversight.
4. [ManageEngine Applications Manager](https://www.g2.com/products/manageengine-applications-manager/reviews) - is an APM/infra monitoring solution with multi-vendor DB coverage and alerting. Teams use it to track sessions, replication, and query anomalies from a single console, aiding investigation of suspicious events.
5. [Monte Carlo](https://www.g2.com/products/monte-carlo/reviews) - is a data observability platform that detects anomalies in freshness, volume, schema, and quality—signals that can reveal downstream issues and data access risks affecting security-sensitive pipelines.

What do you think? Based on your experiences, are there other options that I should consider? I want to know what the G2 community believes is the [best database monitoring software](https://www.g2.com/categories/database-monitoring) for users. Thanks!

[**Metaplane**](https://www.g2.com/products/metaplane/reviews) was another tool that was mentioned often in the list. Have you used it?

[What is the best software for multi-database environment monitoring?](/discussions/what-is-the-best-software-for-multi-database-environment-monitoring)

Looking at data on G2’s [**Database Monitoring**](https://www.g2.com/categories/database-monitoring) category page, Datadog, Dynatrace, and Redgate Monitor stand out for teams managing multi-database environments. See below for my top software list.

1. [**Datadog**](https://www.g2.com/products/datadog/reviews) – is a cloud-based observability platform that provides unified visibility across multiple databases, applications, and infrastructure layers. It supports integrations for MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and more, enabling teams to detect performance issues across hybrid and multi-cloud setups in one dashboard.
2. [**Dynatrace**](https://www.g2.com/products/dynatrace/reviews) – is an AI-powered full-stack monitoring solution that automatically discovers and maps all databases within distributed systems. It helps teams monitor query performance, resource consumption, and dependency relationships across diverse database types.
3. [**Redgate Monitor**](https://www.g2.com/products/redgate-monitor/reviews) – is designed for SQL Server but supports centralized oversight of multiple instances and environments. It provides historical data analysis, performance baselining, and customizable alerts, making it ideal for large, multi-database organizations.

What do you think? Based on your experiences, are there other options that I should consider? I want to know what the G2 community believes is the best option for users. Thanks!

I was also looking into free tools to choose from based on G2's database monitoring page: https://www.g2.com/categories/database-monitoring/free

[What are the best platforms for database anomaly detection?](/discussions/what-are-the-best-platforms-for-database-anomaly-detection)

Looking at data on G2’s [Database Monitoring](https://www.g2.com/categories/database-monitoring) category page, Datadog, Monte Carlo, Dynatrace, Metaplane, and Redgate Monitor surface at the top. See below for my top software list.

1. [**Datadog**](https://www.g2.com/products/datadog/reviews) – is a cloud monitoring and analytics platform with out-of-the-box anomaly detection across database metrics (e.g., query latency, connections, CPU/I/O) and ML-driven alerts to flag unusual behavior before it becomes an incident.
2. [**Monte Carlo**](https://www.g2.com/products/monte-carlo/reviews) – is a data & AI observability platform that emphasizes alerting and incident workflows; it detects anomalies in freshness, volume, schema, and quality signals that often precede database issues impacting downstream apps and dashboards.
3. [**Dynatrace**](https://www.g2.com/products/dynatrace/reviews) – is an AI-powered observability suite that correlates telemetry and surfaces anomalies in database performance as part of full-stack tracing—useful for pinpointing root causes across services and DB layers.
4. [**Metaplane**](https://www.g2.com/products/metaplane/reviews) – is a modern data observability tool that monitors warehouses and databases for unexpected changes (freshness, null spikes, schema drift) and raises targeted anomaly alerts for data teams.
5. [**Redgate Monitor**](https://www.g2.com/products/redgate-monitor/reviews) – is a database monitoring solution (for SQL Server and beyond) that baselines normal behavior and alerts on anomalies like sudden waits, blocking, or resource spikes—handy for catching performance regressions early.

What do you think? Based on your experiences, are there other options that I should consider? I want to know what the G2 community believes is the best option for users. Thanks!

I’m really curious about how these tools handle real-world anomaly detection. If any of you have used these tools, how accurate are the alerts in practice? Do they tend to catch genuine issues or produce a lot of noise?
