Today, business decisions and operations are all based on data. Data becomes inaccessible when the database has a performance issue, which can negatively impact business decisions and operations. Database monitoring can keep track of the performance of databases so organizations can access data at all times.

[What are the best platforms for database anomaly detection?](/discussions/what-are-the-best-platforms-for-database-anomaly-detection)

Looking at data on G2’s [Database Monitoring](https://www.g2.com/categories/database-monitoring) category page, Datadog, Monte Carlo, Dynatrace, Metaplane, and Redgate Monitor surface at the top. See below for my top software list.

1. [**Datadog**](https://www.g2.com/products/datadog/reviews) – is a cloud monitoring and analytics platform with out-of-the-box anomaly detection across database metrics (e.g., query latency, connections, CPU/I/O) and ML-driven alerts to flag unusual behavior before it becomes an incident.
2. [**Monte Carlo**](https://www.g2.com/products/monte-carlo/reviews) – is a data & AI observability platform that emphasizes alerting and incident workflows; it detects anomalies in freshness, volume, schema, and quality signals that often precede database issues impacting downstream apps and dashboards.
3. [**Dynatrace**](https://www.g2.com/products/dynatrace/reviews) – is an AI-powered observability suite that correlates telemetry and surfaces anomalies in database performance as part of full-stack tracing—useful for pinpointing root causes across services and DB layers.
4. [**Metaplane**](https://www.g2.com/products/metaplane/reviews) – is a modern data observability tool that monitors warehouses and databases for unexpected changes (freshness, null spikes, schema drift) and raises targeted anomaly alerts for data teams.
5. [**Redgate Monitor**](https://www.g2.com/products/redgate-monitor/reviews) – is a database monitoring solution (for SQL Server and beyond) that baselines normal behavior and alerts on anomalies like sudden waits, blocking, or resource spikes—handy for catching performance regressions early.

What do you think? Based on your experiences, are there other options that I should consider? I want to know what the G2 community believes is the best option for users. Thanks!

I’m really curious about how these tools handle real-world anomaly detection. If any of you have used these tools, how accurate are the alerts in practice? Do they tend to catch genuine issues or produce a lot of noise?

Question on: SolarWinds Database Observability
[How does SolarWinds Database Observability perform in terms of analytics depth and total cost of ownership?](/discussions/how-does-solarwinds-database-observability-perform-in-terms-of-analytics-depth-and-total-cost-of-ownership)

One of SolarWinds’ standout strengths is how quickly and clearly it surfaces performance issues across various database environments. Its support for SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and others is robust, with deep visibility into query performance, wait events, and resource bottlenecks.

The real-time analytics are actionable and easy to navigate, and I’ve found the historical performance trending and anomaly detection surprisingly powerful, even compared to some newer platforms. For teams dealing with mission-critical, high-throughput databases, SolarWinds offers the level of insight you need without overwhelming complexity. The platform also benefits from tight integration with the broader SolarWinds ecosystem, making it easy to correlate database behavior with app and infrastructure telemetry if you’re using other SolarWinds tools.

I’ve had a positive experience so far, but I’d love to hear from others:

- How has SolarWinds performed for your team at scale, especially in hybrid or multi-cloud environments?
- Any tips on getting the most out of its analytics and alerting capabilities?
- If you’ve compared TCO across observability platforms, how does SolarWinds stack up?

Oh, I forgot to mention—one thing I’ve really come to appreciate is how intuitive the UI is, even for folks who aren’t deep DBAs. It makes collaboration with devs and SREs smoother since they can jump in and interpret performance data without needing a ton of training. Also, the alerts are surprisingly easy to tune—you’re not stuck drowning in noise like with some other platforms. Definitely a plus I should’ve called out earlier.

Question on: Oracle Enterprise Manager
[What is Oracle Enterprise Manager used for?](/discussions/what-is-oracle-enterprise-manager-used-for)

What is Oracle Enterprise Manager used for?

It is basically used for monitoring the onboarded databases of your DC/business on the console for alerts, reports, health status and many more related to database.
