Today, business decisions and operations are all based on data. Data becomes inaccessible when the database has a performance issue, which can negatively impact business decisions and operations. Database monitoring can keep track of the performance of databases so organizations can access data at all times.

[What are the top-rated database monitoring platforms for cloud deployments?](/discussions/what-are-the-top-rated-database-monitoring-platforms-for-cloud-deployments)

I want to start a discussion focused on database monitoring platforms for **cloud deployments** that teams are actually using and finding value in. While some tools lean enterprise, there are several with features and integrations that make sense for smaller teams operating in AWS, Azure, or GCP.

These are some of the top-rated options on G2’s [Database Monitoring](https://www.g2.com/categories/database-monitoring) category:

- [**Dynatrace**](https://www.g2.com/products/dynatrace/reviews) **:** End-to-end, AI-assisted monitoring that auto-discovers services across cloud environments. Can smaller teams get meaningful value quickly, or does it shine mainly in complex estates?
- [**Redgate Monitor**](https://www.g2.com/products/redgate-monitor/reviews) **:** Strong SQL-centric monitoring that can run in cloud and hybrid setups. For managed cloud databases, is the coverage and alerting granular enough compared to the full-stack tools?
- [**ManageEngine Applications Manager**](https://www.g2.com/products/manageengine-applications-manager/reviews) **:** Broad multi-DB coverage with unified dashboards across cloud and on-prem. Is the setup straightforward for cloud-only teams, and how well does it handle multi-region visibility?
- [**Monte Carlo**](https://www.g2.com/products/monte-carlo/reviews) **:** Data observability focused on freshness/volume/schema signals across cloud data stacks. Has it helped you catch cloud pipeline issues that masquerade as database problems?
- [**Rakuten SixthSense Observability**](https://www.g2.com/products/rakuten-sixthsense-observability/reviews) **:** Full-stack observability with cloud-friendly deployment options. For those who’ve tried it, how does it compare on real-time responsiveness and cost control?

If you’ve implemented any of these or others for cloud deployments, I’d love to hear what worked well, what didn’t, and which tools were surprisingly helpful.

Have you used any of these free database monitoring tools? https://www.g2.com/categories/database-monitoring/free

[What are the top tools for tracking database performance in real time?](/discussions/what-are-the-top-tools-for-tracking-database-performance-in-real-time)

I want to start a discussion focused on **real-time database performance monitoring** tools that teams are actually using and finding value in. While some platforms lean enterprise, there are several with features and integrations that make sense for fast-growing teams that need second-by-second visibility. These are some of the top-rated options on G2’s [Database Monitoring](https://www.g2.com/categories/database-monitoring) category.

- [Datadog](https://www.g2.com/products/datadog/reviews): Unified observability with database monitoring and live query metrics—does its real-time dashboards and anomaly alerts help you catch issues before they impact users?
- [Dynatrace](https://www.g2.com/products/dynatrace/reviews): AI-assisted (Davis) end-to-end visibility and a Databases app that auto-maps dependencies—has it reduced your time to pinpoint slow queries across services?
- [Redgate Monitor](https://www.g2.com/products/redgate-monitor/reviews): Deep, SQL-centric monitoring with baselining and instant alerts—how well does it surface real-time blockers and waits during peak traffic?
- [Monte Carlo](https://www.g2.com/products/monte-carlo/reviews): Data observability that flags freshness/volume/schema anomalies—have its real-time signals helped you catch performance-related data issues before dashboards break?

If you've implemented any of these or others, I’d love to hear what worked well, what didn’t, and which tools were surprisingly helpful for **real-time** database performance monitoring.

How real-time are the metrics in practice? Are you seeing true second-by-second updates, or is there a noticeable delay?

Answered: Tanuja Bahirat on October 4, 2025

I've worked on a project where a database was being updated almost continuously by automated data collection scripts. Since fresh information was constantly flowing in, we needed reliable real-time monitoring to quickly spot performance issues before they affected other systems. One challenge that doesn't get discussed enough is that the problem isn't always the volume of data. In our case, the structure of the incoming data could change unexpectedly. A source that previously had three fields might suddenly add a fourth one, rename existing fields, or completely reorganize how information was presented. A good example would be gambling offer directories such as https://somagyarkaszinok.com/befizetes-nelkuli-bonusz/ where offers, bonus terms, rankings, and other details are updated regularly. When you're collecting data from pages like these, even small structural changes can affect ingestion pipelines and database performance. Because of that, the most valuable monitoring capabilities weren't just query performance metrics. We also needed visibility into failed ingestion jobs, unusual write patterns, schema-related anomalies, and downstream issues caused by structural changes in the source data. Real-time alerts helped us catch problems early and significantly reduced troubleshooting time.
