Personally I do not dislike anything particular about the tool. Of course in order to use it, someone has to be proficient (at least at some degree) with process modelling, programming, advanced mathematics etc. Nowadays, university graduates are more an more capable of using computational and given the extensive customer support given by PSE, it will not be difficult for them to master the software, but I can see why engineers of older generations would find it difficult.

I would recommend contacting PSE (the company that developed gPROMS). They provide a plethora of different packages, solutions and support in various levels of your project, so do not hesitate to involve them in your decision making. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The main problem I solved with gPROMS was to model, simulate and optimise a separation unit operation. The software was a lot more powerful (especially in the solver initialisation and optimisation) compared to the alternatives (e.g. Matlab, ASPEN etc.). AspenONE Engineering, me ayuda en mi trabajo y me encanta porque tiene una interfaz muy intuitiva y fácil para mi simular, puedes encontrar cada icono de manera fácil en la paletas de control, conectar corrientes y conocer los parámetros exigidos para cada equipo con tan solo un clic, me ayuda a dimensionar y diseñar los equipos para remplazarlos o modificar parámetros, es excelente en la optimización de procesos para ahorrar energía y evitar tiempos de inactividad no planificados o incluso algún accidente a la hora de realizar un diseño nuevo, en las plantas de procesos cuando estos son nuevos debes conocer el costo de capital a invertir y con la simulación sabes qué equipo requieres y llevar la administración de coste involucrado, además puede ejecutar módulos de simulación de procesos en toda la planta caso por caso Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
