As and HR Consultant I was going through the SkillPanel platform and I found very useful for companies to use it, especially for making workforce skills and capabilities more visible. The platform is also user friendly, which is important because HR teams, managers and employees need to understand and use this kind of tool without too much complexity. This makes very convenient for HR consultants to recommend it and implement it in a new company. The skills map is very practical because it show what knowledge and capabilities employees currently have, where there may be gaps, and where development opportunities exist. I also found the manager view valuable. It gives managers a clearer overview of the skills and potential within their teams, and this is very valuable for better conversations around development, career growth, succession planning and promotions. It is especially useful in organizations where skills are not clearly structured, and decisions are often made without enough visibility into existing capabilities.

What I find most useful about SkillPanel is that it shifts the skills conversation from assumption to evidence. Rather than relying on CVs, manager impressions, or anecdotal knowledge, it gives HR a structured, real-time picture of what capability actually exists across the organisation. That visibility is the foundation for better recruitment briefs, more targeted L&D investment, and succession planning that reflects genuine readiness rather than tenure. It also bridges a gap that most HR teams haven't been able to close — connecting workforce intelligence to strategic decision-making in a way that's practical to implement and easy to interpret.

For me the visual skills map is the standout feature. It's genuinely impressive and unlike anything I've seen in other HR tools. The ability to map employee competencies, set competency(mastery) levels by role, and see how individuals measure up against any job position in the organisation addresses a real gap in workforce management and planning. The three-tier rating system (self, supervisor and expert) adds real credibility to the data. Rather than relying on self-scores managers can also review skills and competencies, also showing any gaps in individual vs. management perspectives. The certificate management section is also excellent - clean, easy to action, and clear visibility of what's expiring and when. For anyone who has worked in a large or multi-site organisation, the internal succession planning and mobility potential is significant. Being able to run a report showing which employees are the best fit for a vacant role (clearly ranked by percentage) could meaningfully reduce the time and cost of recruitment from the internal pool of applicants.
