There are so many things I like about Hammr. The biggest thing is they actually understand the construction industry, the unique needs, nuances, and rules. They can actually deliver on the things they promise! We tried different payroll time tracking in the past, such as intuit/TSheets and while that helped, it was never a "one stop shop" for our payroll needs. We still had many hours of manual entry and oversight each week. Certified payrolls and prevailing wage projects were all handled manually in the past, which was a nightmare. Hammr is the first true "one stop shop" payroll company that can handle multiple prevailing wage classifications (Laborer, Teamster, various level of Operating Engineers), multiple worker's comp codes and get it right! The certified payroll reports are accurate, complete, and takes about 30 seconds to generate. Certified payroll, for one week, for one project, used to take me about 2.5 hours to complete. Those days are a VERY distant memory now. Recently, our GC requested 6 weeks of CPRs that I was backlogged on. I was able to complete that request within minutes. This resulted in us receiving a hand delivered check the next morning! That normally would have derailed my entire week and resulted in many hours of overtime work so that we could get our check in a timely manner. I can't begin to tell you how happy that made me AND our owner! Hammr also integrates with our accounting system so job costing is not an issue. I can easily look at the reports in Hammr by project or just pull it up in our accounting software and see the actual costs, split by job, classifications, cost codes, with ease. It really does check ALL of the boxes for us as a contractor. When it comes to time tracking: The mobile app is super easy and user-friendly. We have a range of super tech savvy to "I barely got a smartphone this year" employees and they can all use the app. It is intuitive and has a very easy interface. Another issue we saw with different payroll companies in the past is not having enough fields to enter all pertinent information. In Hammrʼs app and the system it allows us to track anything we want. Equipment, classification (for prevailing wage projects), cost codes (activity), hours, breaks, notes etc. The guys even attach photos of any purchases they make throughout the day or any significant jobsite information. The guys can see their PTO and sick hour balances right in the app as well as view their paystub immediately after payroll. This eliminates a lot of tedious questions between field and office as well as putting more knowledge in THEIR hands. It is nice for them to know that they have all of that information at their fingertips at any time and don't have to come to me at 4pm on a Sunday when they want to purchase a new car or otherwise need that info! The time that Hammr has freed up for me has directly been linked to many cost saving projects that I just didn't have the time for in the past. The goal of a growing business is efficiency and Hammr really allows me to accomplish that. I have been able to dedicate more time to process revision, AR/AP research and finding "deals" for the companyʼs materials. Onboarding has also been a dream. I was doing things archaically in the past but the onboarding is totally customizable and allows us to enter new employees and get them on our jobsites within an hour (most of this is policy review!. Gone are the days of them driving to the office, physical papers, handwriting and scanning docs manually.

Hammr is the simplest platform we’ve ever used, with complex features that are still intuitive and not overly bloated. I’ve worked both in the office and in the field, and I’ve used accounting systems as well as tools to manage field operations, so I have a good sense of how systems should be built and integrated. Historically, the systems we used were geared toward making office staff’s lives easier, since they’re usually the ones making the software purchasing decision. Hammr is the first system we’ve used that’s truly been a win for both our office team and our field staff. For our field team, clocking in is done with one button. I watched guys who have used a time card for the last 18 years download Hammr’s mobile app, and without me saying anything, they were clocked in to the right job and job code. Scheduling is easy, with automated notifications and PTO integration, plus the ability to customize an unpaid policy so you can give days off without it counting against vacation. You can also schedule by crew, not just individuals, and you can have multiple crews. Job documents are easy to view, and you can zoom in to a high level of detail so plans are readable on a phone. They know exactly what’s expected of them. Daily reports are automated with weather and hours worked. One of our PMs used to enter hours into Sage every day, and she was like, “Wait, where do I put the hours?” I just smiled and said, “Click submit and print it.” Photos have been a surprise benefit too—guys are starting to post photos and try to one-up each other on quality of workmanship, and we’re also getting an endless flow of marketing material from jobs. Chat has bi-directional translation built in, which lets our office communicate with field employees more effectively. Employees can tell you care enough to communicate in their own language, and the mobile app automatically translates to Spanish for them. For the office/admin/payroll side, onboarding documents and employee setup are straightforward. Certifications and expiration tracking are built in. Payroll is simple and clean to run and process. Certified Payroll Reporting makes us want to win more of those prevailing wage projects, and the fringe benefit calculations are helping us save money. For the owners, being able to see payroll amounts for each project and employee ahead of the payroll run helps with cash flow planning. Costs flow directly into QBO by project. And it’s also easy to make announcements to the whole staff to thank them for a hard day’s work.
