## About Yellowdig
Yellowdig is an education company on a mission to create a connected learning experience for students around the world. Yellowdig’s Engage digital platform is thoughtfully designed to create vibrant learning communities from pre-enrollment to beyond graduation by combining the power of gameful learning principles with a social media interface. Yellowdig is not a bolt on or a tool, but a learning platform that powers deeper learning and high impact instruction while saving faculty valuable time. It does this by moving learners from being receivers of knowledge to finders and creators of knowledge. This shift leads to a richer level of student and faculty engagement, better academic outcomes, and improved student success outcomes.

## Yellowdig Reviews
  ### 1. Student engagement and community

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michelle T. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 22, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

Yellowdig is easy to configure and integrates well my institution's LMS. The customer support from the Yellowdig team is top notch, truly some of the best I've ever seen.

I used Yellowdig in my online asynchronous course and also led a team of faculty using it across different disciplines and course modalities. I have been teaching the same introductory course for the past 6 years using standard discussion boards. The Yellowdig community was a game changer for my students, which was evident from the introductory discussion. The gamification and ease of use meant that students were able to create multimedia discussions with pictures, video, links, and emojiis that really added to the community discussion. Posts and replies were creative and demonstrated critical thinking skills as students engaged with the content and with each other more readily than I've observed with a standard discussion platform. Yellowdig was also featured prominently in my course evaluations because students overwhelmingly loved it. I can't imagine teaching this course without Yellowdig in the future.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

Yellowdig is great, there is nothing I dislike. The biggest challenge to using Yellowdig is changing your mindset as an instructor to let the students lead the discussion. I also wish there was a dedicated mobile app with push notifications, but that's not a dislike, just a wish list item for the product roadmap.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating a fun and engaging community is a challenge in an online asynchronous class, especially in a larger class (50-100 students). As an instructor, it's not fun to grade discussion boards where most students are providing perfunctory responses to prompts. Yellowdig solves that issue, too. I can now spend my time engaging with students as they connect the course material to their lived experiences. Yellowdig's point earning gamification makes participation safe for my more introverted students, and students have choice in how they engage with the community to earn points. Most importantly, students are able to "find their people" in the class which helps support student retention and completion.

  ### 2. Yellowdig revolutionized my experience with online learning

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matthew A. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 22, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

What passed for online discussion in my Canvas discussion boards made me question the value of online learning. From the first day of class after adopting Yellowdig, I have been amazed and encouraged by what is possible when students take the lead. And, not having to grade discussion posts has really freed me up to use the platform to do what I love to do, which is share my passion for philosophy and connect with learners in my class. I’m having the most fun I ever have teaching online.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

It's hard to think of a downside to using Yellowdig. There are definitely challenges to learning a new platform and getting students on-board with trying something new, but not only was it far less difficult to learn than I expected, Yellowdig has an amazing support team available to assist with the entire process. If only learn any new tech tool could be so effortless!

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Yellowdig helps generate engagement with users. My students are happy when they engaging course content in a way that is flexible to their needs and allows them to express their creativity. My students are fulfilling our learning goals and find greater satisfaction with the course. This benefits me as their instructor because I'm happy when my students are happy. Teaching engaged, empowered learners is far more professionally and spiritually rewarding than teaching apathetic and mildly annoyed participants in my class.

  ### 3. Game Changer

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lisa D. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 21, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

Where to start? Yellowdig allows my students to interact in an authentic way - the way they would in an in-person class - in an online format. I first used this as a student and loved it! It allowed me to get to know my classmates on a personal level that's rarely possible in a traditional discussion board.

It also makes my life easier and richer as a teacher. It is self-grading, but that doesn't mean you can ignore it. While you don't have to grade it, best practice is to monitor the conversations, award accolades for exemplary posts, and occasionally contribute. This allows me to understand my students on a deeper level, what they know, what they need, adn how they grapple with the course content.

When deployed appropriately, the result is a interactive learning community. Rather than answer specifc questions and respond to a limited number of their peers, students are free to post whatever they want related to the course content. This allows them to continue the conversation past the expirary date of the unit.

Some of the cool features include:
- You determine the value of posts based on word count and additional content like video files.
- You determine the accolades you want to award and their point value (there are some to get you started as well).
- Both you and the students can set notification preferences so you don't miss a thing.
- The layout purposely mimics a social media app with the newest content posting to the top of the feed. This format is familiar to many students.
- Yellowdig provides a certification course to familiarize new users with the functionality and to educate them in best practices.
- Students never have to create an original post. This makes it easier for students with anxiety about using the tool. They can ease into it in a way that feels safer and less vulnerable.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

The things I don't love about Yellowdig are primarily related to the users rather than the app. You and the students have to get out of the mindset of "post once, reply twice." this can be harder than it sounds. I find it helpful to refer to it as their learning community and to encourage them to use it like they would social media. Though not recommended, students consistently request prompts. I do provide them, but in a limited way.

The other issue I have found is that some students, despite your best effort, are not going to see the value in it. They see it as busy work. There was a student in the course where I used it who copy and pasted a meaningless response until he earned his points.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Yellowdig solves the problem of needing an authentic learning community in a digital space.

  ### 4. Keeping Students Engaged

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kathy O. | Adjunct Faculty, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 19, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

The courses I teach normally meet once per week, and Yellowdig is a great tool for keeping students engaged with eachother and our course content between meetings. I love that they build their own community, and how easy it is for them to share both linked and uploaded content. Best of all, automated grade passback means I have more time to do the rewarding parts of my job - interacting with my students!

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

It can be difficult for students to get in a rhythm of making meaningful contributions at first. I wish there was a better way for them to get rolling, but broader adoption of the platform would solve for this.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Yellowdig really helps with having a touchpoint for the course material between class meetings. It is also a great platform for sharing linked and uploaded multimedia content. Students can post completed assignments there to share with classmates, including large image files and short videos. It's great that they can be viewed directly in the browser and don't need to be individually downloaded.

  ### 5. Interactive and So Much More Engaging than Traditional Classroom Discussion Posts

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rebecca C. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 18, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

One thing I really like about Yellowdig is that, as an instructor, you can prepare posts ahead of time! I also like how it is more like a game and tracks points. This seems to encourage more participation and thoughtful interaction between students. The platform also allows for more engaging visuals and the ability to be more creative with posts than a typical discussion through platforms like Canvas. I wish All the colleges I teach at used Yellowdig. It is more entertaining and easier to use for online interaction between students.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

I cannot really think of anything. Setting up parameters is easy, making adjustments for points is easy, and the training in how to use it is fantastic.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Making boring online discussions more engaging for students so they want to participate, or are more likely to participate. The point system set up is great because it is a constant visual for them and easier for me to keep track of when it comes to grading. The other bonus is that it is accessible on any device, so there are no excuses!

  ### 6. My online classes will never be the same

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Keely L. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 05, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

I can confidently say that Yellowdig has been an asset to my intercultural communication course. I have taught the class in-person and online. My in-person class was always more fruitful because students openly shared their perspectives and had intentional conversations. I knew I wanted to create a similar experience in my online class. Yellowdig was the solution. It is incredible to see students driving the interactions, sharing their experiences, and connecting with one another. I can confidently say that Yellowdig enriched the online experience for my students.

Above all, I have been impressed with the support provided by Yellowdig staff. My questions and concerns are always promptly addressed. I have always felt set up for success in implementing Yellowdig throughout the semester. Not to mention that the user interface is well designed and easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

I have yet to encounter anything I dislike about Yellowdig.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Student engagement in my online courses. Students are sharing their experiences and thoughts, driving the learning experiencing and enriching it for everyone.

  ### 7. Platform for in-depth discussion and creating community

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Catherine G. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 04, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

I teach introductory courses online in the first 2 semesters of a nurse anesthesia program to highly motivated, graduate level students. The feedback from students the first two years of teaching this course was very positive - except for the discussion assignments. The students wanted to discuss and were frustrated as the LMS discussion board was filled with barriers to in depth discussion. The past 2 semesters, I switched to Yellodig and was met with an overwhelming positive response from students! I was amazed at the quality and depth of discussion in which these students engaged. I was also pleasantly surprised by the ability to 'let them go' while being able to gently redirect the conversation as needed. My fears of them just keeping the conversation at a surface level was totally unfounded - they went way deeper than I had planned for them. I was also amazed at the level of support I received from Yellowdig at the beginning and throughout the whole process. From the instructions to students they provide, the instructor's 'course' that I completed, and the personal virtual meetings....it really could not have been easier! Because of my great experience with Yellowdig the first semester and the support from their team, I decided to also try this platform as a mentoring opportunity between cohorts. It went great! Yellowdig was a platform that provided connection and support for the incoming class in a fun, easy, flexible way.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

I have absolutely no downsides to list - as none of my fears about using Yellowdig were realized.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Yellowdig gave us a better way for our students to mentor the incoming class, support transfer of information between cohorts, and foster relationships within each cohort.

  ### 8. Yellowdig is a wonderful way to build community and conversation in an online platform.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Valerie A. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 30, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

Using a traditional discussion board in an online platform can lead to very dull discussions. The model for traditional boards is to have students post a response to the discussion prompt and then respond to two students. It lacks opportunities for genuine discussion and community building. This is where Yellowdig shines. The focus is on providing opportunities for community and conversation. Students take ownership of their board and can explore various concepts. As a result of this student-led focus on learning, it lends itself to a more exciting discussion. Students can also create videos, use polls, draw pictures, etc., and have fun with learning. Overall, what I like best about Yellowdig is its opportunity for community and conversation, which is hard to establish with a traditional discussion board.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

It can be a challenge for instructors, especially if they are used to using a traditional discussion model, to transition to allowing students to take the lead on conversations and explore various topics on the board.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Yellowdig provides a fun, interactive space for students to engage in conversations and build community with their instructors and peers. It allows the conversation in a traditional classroom to translate into an online space.

  ### 9. Excellent learning platform for a large course

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tim B. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 20, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

Yellowdig has had a major impact on my climate change course. The course has over 400 students and I was looking for a platform to host a discussion board beyond what can be done in my course management system. Yellowdig has far exceeded my expectations for such a platform. For both students and professor, the interface is super user friendly and intuitive. This makes for a very fast learning curve for students, and I get very few questions about how the platform works. Posting, commenting on a post, and using emojis is seamless and from a professor’s point of view, it is super easy to screen, search for and filter posts and to track student performance. In addition, the bonus system whereby students can get extra credit for being especially active in a week, makes the professors life easier as there is no need for extensions for individual students. Accolades from the professor are crucial for students to learn what is valued and provides gentle peer pressure, improving the quality of posts. Students often comment in their reviews on how much they like the platform and how it one of their favorite parts of the class. Overall, Yellowdig effectively builds a community of learners and has become a critical part of my climate change course.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

I think down the road the system will need to build in a ChatGPT checker. This is not a criticism because every learning platform is going to have to adjust to the realities of AI.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It provides a user-friendly discussion board in a large class that is an effective learning system.

  ### 10. Community Building software for diverse and dispersed students.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mary L. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 03, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

Yellowdig helps students and a professor create a unique community. The software did this by providing a format that introverted students as well as extroverts can contribute their lived experiences and reflections in response to thoughtful prompts. This technique expands the discourse and limits the conversation (usually) to discourse instead of emotive responses. Students compare and contrast ideas and responses and, with the help of a professor, identify shared experiences, solutions, hopes, and dreams. The professor serves as a “guide on the side”to shape and form the community. The software contributes to human flourishing together in a community in the classroom.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

There are some options in the set-up that I wish my peers would have showed me.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Introverted students.
-Building community.
-Encouraging moral imagination and independent thought.

  ### 11. On this multimedia platform, every student can find something to engage with

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tess T. | Adjunct Professor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 18, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

Toss a bunch of community college students into Yellowdig, all with wildly different ages, ethnicities, cultures, backgrounds, life stories, and future plans, and guess what? Everyone digs in. Some whip up drawings, others unleash their inner scribes, and a few even bring the noise with audio or video. And just about everyone throws in cool links and chimes in with enthusiastic comments, eager to earn those points and accolades. That's the magic of the multi-media, multi-topic Discussion platform with so many features: it's engaging for everyone, and a breeze to use. As an instructor, I was able to seamlessly weave/integrate YD into my Canvas class as if they were meant to be together. And if there ever (very rarily) is any issue, the customer service responds on the same day!
With YD, I don't need to remind students to participate in the Discussion ---they spend there so much time (even during their Thanksgiving break!) Most students would use it practically every day.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

There is really nothing I dislike. My students are happy because they earn nice grades while having fun! I am happy, as all those YD points get automatically converted into Canvas points.
So, what's not to love?

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Engagement skyrockets: Forget nagging students to participate in Discussions! Yellowdig makes it their game: they chase that "Early Bird" accolade like candy! Plus, topics live all semester, so even if someone misses a beat due to illness, they can swing back and drop their two cents later. No FOMO for anyone!

2. Data drives the Discussions: Yellowdig keeps everyone in the loop with live points updates. Who's near the top? Who needs a boost? This intel lets me steer the conversation to ensure everyone gets a chance to shine, regardless of points. It's like having a built-in equity meter for my Discussions!

3. Open-ended and dynamic: Gone are the days of stale, deadline-driven discussions. Yellowdig lets conversations breathe, evolve, and adapt to new information. It's like having a living textbook that students can contribute to throughout the semester, keeping things fresh and relevant.

  ### 12. I love Yellowdig, and so do my students

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Barry M. | Associate Professor, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 25, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

Here's what my students say:
"I love all the information that he (the professor) puts into the class and how communicative he is in Yellowdig. Also, Yellowdig as a whole is such an interesting platform and I'd love to see it used in more classes."
"I /really/ like using Yellowdig, and I think that it's a really good way to understand concepts through other student's responses."

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

Needs an easy archiving solution: a way for the instructor to download a record of the conversations.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It gets students engaged and they don't just crank out rote answers.

  ### 13. Integral to student experience in higher education

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Julie H. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 09, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

I have been an instructor for just over 20 years, and I was eager to find a platform that would serve 3 core purposes: to help engage students’ executive functions, to help students build self-efficacy, and to promote interpersonal care. Yellowdig helps create an environment in which students become the initiators of the topics and the interpersonal glue to keep encouraging their peers to persist. I appreciate the feedback in which students acknowledge the personal nature that the platform fosters, and the range of responses that helps bring confidence and courage to share creative solutions, ideas, and feedback.
AI most likely can give answers for students using old protocols-traditional discussion platforms, and this has been an easy format for students to integrate. I can apply Yellowdig in online, hybrid, and ground classroom environments.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

Take time to make sure integrates with LMS smoothly

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Students using AI to answer discussion questions with old LMS systems, students desiring to have authentic topic generation, students desire to feel connected, supported, and motivated to build self efficacy in classes

  ### 14. The best discussion tool for university students

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mika L. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 20, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

I have used browser-based discussion tools in my university teaching since they have existed. What makes Yellowdig better than any of the others I've seen are two things. One, its interface models social media, which not only makes it familiar to digital natives, but, like social media, allows for easy integration of multiple types of content: text, images, video, easy metadata (tags and topics), and community engagement. But, two, even more important is the way it fosters organic, community-based discussion. Sure, Yellowdig can also be used poorly by instructors if they make the discussion too constrained by "assigning" specific "prompts" for students to respond to. But if an instructor heeds Yellowdig's suggested setup — gameful incentivization and openness of discussions — it is likely to promote ongoing, organic, and genuine conversation. And what's best is that it does by reducing instructor workload: there is far less need to grade or review in detail all student contributions.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

In the context of constantly proliferating ed-tech tools, interoperability across learning management systems can be tricky. Learning-tool interoperability (LTI) has made that better in recent years, but there can still be challenges in data transfer between Yellowdig and LMSes (we use Canvas). It's not insurmountable at all, but for some students, the number of tools and their slightly imperfect compatibilities can be overwhelming.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Yellowdig provides the best digital communication for university courses and university co-curricular work I have encountered. It's a social-media-like but private (when necessary) space for genuine onlive conversations.

  ### 15. Yellowdig is FANTASTIC

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John M. | Professor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 02, 2024

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

Yellowdig allows my students to reach new heights of collaboration. It’s inviting and easy to use and transforms traditional discussion board experiences.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

It's all good! I don't have any 'dislikes.'

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Collaboration

  ### 16. Great solution for many online discussion woes

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 03, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

Traditional forums have their place, but they usually don't generate rich interaction and conversation between students. Yellowdig takes a very UDL approach to online discussions. Students have lots of agency and choice in what they write about, and they have different ways they can interact (commenting, launching a poll, recording a video, sharing a link). Yellowdig allows them to write about what's relevant to them. It also allows them to easily check on their progress, which helps with task prioritization and completion. The proof is in the pudding - for those faculty at my instittuion who use this tool, nearly all of them have found it to be very effective in not only alleviating grading burden but also fostering community. Additionally, the YellowDig support staff are very helpful, attentive, and responsive.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

This is not so much about Yellowdig, but an instructor has to really buy into the Yellowdig approach to fully reap the rewards. It requires a bit of a paradigm shift and a willingness to release a lot of control. This can be a challenge. The only other complaints we have received are when students try to game the system, but this happens very rarely. Nonetheless, it's not easy to detect or correct, if an instructor is super worried about this kind of thing.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Lack of engagment in online discussion forums and grading constraints and burden of online discussion forums.

  ### 17. Exceptional, Versatile, and Innovative Product with Superior Customer Service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aimee W. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

There are so many things I like about Yellowdig. It begins with their team of experts who are dedicated to student learning and continual improvement. They genuinely listen and reach out to their clients. As for the tool, I love its versatility and how it puts students in control of their learning. Students can use it to comment/connect with each other and to help each other as well as use the social media reactions they know from various social media platforms. This sets Yellowdig apart from traditional discussion board platforms. Yellowdig allows students to extend the content with external links and images or journal their specific progress on their research project. As an instructor, I like that it breaks the age-old, week-long discussion paradigm and extends these discussions throughout the term--more organically--as discussions should be. As an instructor (user), I can pair Yellowdig with any course at any level in any modality (face-to-face, blended, online, HyFlex). Most importantly, I like that Yellowdig frees me from the tedious grading of discussion boards, gives my students instanteous feedback, and allows me to spend my time helping students and extending the learning.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

Although Yellowdig offers buffer points for students, I'd love to see the ability for instructors to create designated times off (e.g., Spring Break or Thanksgiving Break, impromptu weather events, exam week). Additionally, I would like to see generative AI detection so that students know that copying and pasting from LLMs is not acceptable and that they be guided toward elevating their learning.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Yellowdig solves a number of problems and shatters old paradigms. First, this tool allows breaks the age-old, week-long discussion paradigm and extends these discussions throughout the term--more organically--as discussions should be. This benefits me and the class by allowing students to comment throughout the term--as their knowledge and sophisication of the course content grows. Second, Yellowdig makes learning more fun by integrating the social media reactions that students already know well. This creates an environment that is familiar and intuitive for students. That level of comfort is important for student success. Third, Yellowdig helps instructors like me who like a student-centered experience. With Yellowdig, students do not wait for the instructor, they are empower to begin creating the content themselves and to respond to each other organically. Fourth, Yellowdig is such a versatile solution. I can pair Yellowdig with any course at any level in any modality (face-to-face, blended, online, HyFlex). Finally, Yellowdig frees me from the tedious grading of discussion boards, gives my students instanteous feedback, and allows me to spend my time helping students and extending the learning.

  ### 18. Scholarly Social Media Encouraging Student Engagement and Learning

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrew B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

Yellowdig truly embraces and facilitates the concept of more purposeful social interactions amongst students to foster a collaborative learning experience. Students appreciate the "social media-like" feel of the platform where they can engage with one another and not feel confined by traditional discussion board prompts. As a result, students have more meaningful connections with one another and can share their experiences and not feel as isolated. It has allowed our students to diseminate evidence-informed practice techniques while also sharing their own successes and challenges. The setup of Yellowdig also allows me as an instructor to be hands-off. Although I can monitor the conversations, it frees up a lot of time that would otherwise be spent "grading" discussion board posts and comments. The grading system is effective and allows me to give accolades that recognize student achievement, but is not cumbersome.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

Linking Yellowdig to the learning management system for grading purposes can be a bit clunky each year at the start of the course, but this may also be more user error! I'm never sure I have it quite right. Any time there are technical questions, they are quickly answered and remedied or one can find instructions/help on their website easily enough. Students have also expressed interest in having easier access on their phones, e.g. a mobile app. But there isn't really much to dislike!

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Yellowdig encourages more genuine student interactions online, thereby reducing student feelings of isolation when they are off campus. Yellowdig also allows for a more streamlined process for grading, freeing up instructor time that would be spent analyzing a generic discussion board.

  ### 19. Yellowdig Takes Thinking and Conversing Deeper

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jess W. | English Teacher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

I love that Yellowdig engages students where they are, in a format they are familiar with, and encourages deeper and more meaningful conversation the longer it is used. What I have noticed is that student responses become more divergent and more intentional the longer they use Yellowdig. Students are not parroting what I think, nor are they parroting what their peers have said. Rather, they are attempting to articulate unique vantage points OR continue conversations with other connections and questions.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

It is very user-friendly, for the most part, but I do not love that I cannot easily "skip" weeks within the grading/point system. We have multiple week long breaks a year, so it would be nice to be able to block off weeks for no points awarded.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Yellowdig solves the formulaic response encouraged within LMS discussion forums by intrinsically motivating and inspiring students to thoughtfully engage with the material and with their peers.

  ### 20. The Power of Yellowdig starts with Students!

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

As a former tenure track and adjunct professor who assigned online discussions in Canvas, Blackboard, and D2L, when I learned about Yellowdig as a learning designer and saw and read the true organic engagement between peers in an online course, I was so impressed. It's this simple: do you want your higher ed student online discussion to be about quantity (post once a week and reply to two peers' posts) or do you want it to be quality with rich, meaningful, and course-aligned content, created and faciliated by students? I can tell you, in an 8-week online course of approximately 1000 students, that course's Yellowdig learning community had over 3000 posts, almost 30,000 comments, and close to 7000 reactions. I've NEVER seen this type of content creation and conversation in a traditional LMS discussion. Plus, Yellowdig helps you build community in your online courses and helps cultivate instructor presence. Another plus is at the end of the course, change the Yellowdig learning community to read-only status, and then it becomes a student-created course resource! Need I say more?

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

What's not to love about Yellowdig? I can't think of one detail that I don't enjoy.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

—Building a community of belonging for our online students in a 100% online graduate courses and in-person undergraduate courses.
—Cultivating instructor presence
—Sharing multimedia aligned to course concept with images, infographics, websites, videos, podcast episodes, and polls, or self-recorded video and audio
—Offering a type of participation with course content students truly enjoy and look forward to

  ### 21. Amazing Community-building Platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

Yellowdig has tranformed how students in my in-person and online courses learn about the biology of plants. The set-up as a semester-long discussion rather than weekly discussions has allowed the students to engage in deeper, more meaningful conversations than the traditional discussion platforms I have used in the past. On the educator-side it has been much more enjoyable to be an active participant on-the-side and to not have to grade initial posts and responses that are a rephrasing of the same information for all students.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

There have been so many great updates to Yellowdig in the past year that I have been using it, so I do not have anything I truly dislike. It would be nice to be able to skip a week for the university holiday weeks rather than bundling them into a longer earning-period, but that is quite minor for my course.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Yellowdig has completely changed how my students connect to one another and problem-solve together. I teach a larger-enrollment course, so answering all of their questions and problem-solving with them used to be quite challenging. The students have shared with me that they have greatly benefited from seeing their peers' projects and learned so much from how others are executing their experiments. With Yellowdig they are helping each other and learning more in the process. It has also freed-up all the time I used to spend grading discussion assignments, which has enabled me to be more active in guiding them through their experiment journeys.

  ### 22. Terrific Instructional Software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

I used YellowDig in a Russian History class and assigned students to take on the roles of people in different parts of the Russian Empire or Soviet Union to discuss the empire-centered history presented in the textbook. The students loved it and I loved how it provided them an opportunity to engage more deeply with the material in the textbook and in our class discussions. I also really liked how YellowDig assigned points to each student contribution (which could have text, images, sound, or video clips a la TikTok) so that I didn't have to award the points myself. (I used Blackboard's blog in another class the same semester and YellowDig made my life so much easier with this feature.) I also really appreciated the support from YellowDig. I had questions and YellowDig folks from their support team were right there to help me. I'm a huge YellowDig fan.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

The thing I found most challengingn about YellowDig is really trivial. The coordination between the purchase of the YellowDig license and the email to the student with the login information was fouled up by the Bookstore and due to Bookstore failure to communicate with YellowDig, my students missed several days of engagement at the beginning of the semester when I was trying to establish that rhythm. I have to emphasize that this was not at all YellowDig's fault.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

YellowDig helps me establish ways for my students to engage more deeply with the material and with each other. YellowDig makes me more efficient because I don't lose hours awarding points to student posts (which I was doing in Blackboard), Saving this time helps me focus on other aspects of the learning and teaching dynamic to make my class even more powerful for my students.

We've been using Yellowdig at our institution for nearly 2 years now! Their dedicated success managers are like our personal superheroes, always there to swiftly address our questions and provide fantastic coaching during meetings to help us make the most of this amazing tool. Yellowdig has truly made our learning environment feel more connected and vibrant!

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

Online discussion paradiagm shift can take some time to get used to. It takes about a semester for new users to get comfortable navigating the tool.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Make discussions authentic and vibrant in online courses.

  ### 24. A community building tool that champions the human element of online learning

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luis A. | Director, Learning Design, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 07, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

That it allows learners to co-construct knowledge with their peers. Additionally, it is user-friendly and allows for extrinsic motivation via the points structure.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

The only negative is that more faculty have to be coached to rethink how they view assessments. A lot of conversations around what it means to learn and how powerful short expressions can be in retaining informaiton.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating more engagement within our hybrid and online courses.

  ### 25. Yellowdig enhances online learning environment

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David P. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 21, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

Yellowdig has faciliated student-to-student interaction in my online asychronous class. In an anonymous survey, 68% of students report feeling either "Extremely connected" or "Quite connected" to their classmates because of Yellowdig.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

The cost to the student. I hope our school reaches a critical mass and is able to invest in a site license.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Student-to-student interaction in an online asynchronous course.

  ### 26. Teaching technology that works!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mark H. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

Yellowdig enables my online college composition students to interact easily and develop a community where ideas and advice can be shared. The platform is intuitive, useful, and a bunch of fun to use!

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

My students often say that they wished Yellowdig had a better functioning smartphone capacity. They complain about difficulty when typing posts and accessing attached files, like uploads of essay drafts.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Students in online courses often struggle to feel connected to their peers. Peer interaction is critical in composition classes and Yellowdig makes it possible for students to share drafts, provide constructive feedback, and share research tips by linking to articles, photos, and videos. Yellowdig makes it easy for every student (and me!) to interact like we would in a face-to-face classroom.

  ### 27. Outstanding

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Wesley B. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2023

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

It provides students with an open, safe place where they can discuss topics and ideas in an engaging manner. This was always possible in a classroom setting, traditional discussion boards to a limited extent, or even other communication tools. But in an online course setting, Yellowdig has taken it to the next level and opened a door to facilitate interactions that are much more consistent with what they might have in a face-to-face setting.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

Keep in mind there is a cost for students or your university, so that can be a limiting factor. But that is fair given they have developed a great product that they can't just give away.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Student engagement is the big winner here.

  ### 28. Yellowdig for Ethics Classes

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

Easy for students of all ages to use....

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

Sometimes students saw it as busy work .

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Yellowdig gave me and my students the opportunity to share perspectives and resources that we didn't have time in class to cover or address. Students appreciated the opportunity to earn points why continuing the discussion.

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

The thing I like the most about Yellowdig is that students are encouraged to go above and beyond what they would normally do, and then they share their work with others.

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

I think a standalone app would be a great addition.

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Yellowdig helps students learn from one another. Rather than waiting for the instructor to show them what to do, they help each other out.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 05, 2021

**What do you like best about Yellowdig?**

Intuitiveness, points 'rewards', easiness of group discussions, themes selection, topic-related, like post/comment option, scroll down flexibility, pinned-post option

**What do you dislike about Yellowdig?**

You need to embed the app within your educational platform. There is a limited number of topics suggested; users profile pics are not fully developed yet, discussion-oriented only

**What problems is Yellowdig solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it both in online and in-person classes I teach. I prefer it over Canvas/Blackboard platforms where you need to scroll down endlessly or assign points to them to grade the discussions on a timely basis
