1. You are new to LLM-based product development: Buy Vellum (no question - build your own tooling later if you even need to).

2. You have started developing LLM-based products but not yet in production: Buy Vellum (get to production faster).

3. You have existing LLM-based products in production, but your tooling is limited: Buy Vellum (you likely need to improve the rate of development for the future - Vellum gets you there faster).

4. You have production LLM-products and extensive tooling: Probably still buy Vellum (focus on building and improving your products or experimenting with new ones. Vellum has the tooling you need in most cases and it will continue to get better while you work on what matters to your business).

Git-based development/management was a major disadvantage. With the new SDK, that's solved for the most part. There may be some very advanced requirements that aren't supported by the Vellum tooling, but there is likely some 'today' workarounds and 'tomorrow' fully baked solves. - superb low code workflow builder (with 1:1 code interface)

- one click deploy

- tracing and observability

Of all the things Vellum offers, the evals could probably be better. It's just a trade off of tools. There are some dedicated eval products in the market that optimize solely for the eval portion. Vellum's eval suite lags a bit behind market offerings but Vellum's strength is the integration of evals and coupling them with workflows. For other products, you need to send their data over. Honestly, not much! I know Vellum is still early-stage, and it's clear the team is moving fast and listening to users. That said, the UX around workflows could definitely be more intuitive. The low code capability and drag and drop design is amazing for quickly building custom AI workflows that are production ready. Also, the ability to use PDFs as an input variable without being forced to use a document loader is great for those looking to use the computer vision capabilities of multi modal models. The evaluation UI leaves a little to be desired, but the team is actively communicating and working on updates. Also, would like to see an annotation queue and better UI on the data sets and user feedback collection. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We have immensely benefited from the UI workflow builder when narrowing in on our AI workflows. It gives us a centralized way to quickly test and try different prompts and models and see what impact it would have and what we feel comfortable deploying for our customers. The world of AI models is _so_ vast. Comparing different prompts and models was incredibly tedious before we found Vellum, which lets us do it side by side, track changes, automate our evaluations (to proactively catch regressions).. And the workflows feature is incredible. Things that would've taken days or weeks now take minutes or hours and even non-technical people on our team can easily do work that otherwise would've consumed our engineers' time. The only downside is also a positive... some advanced flows are difficult to implement. On the bright side, the product quirks aren't that hard to work around, especially once you get the hang of them. Their team is also super quick to answer questions and guide us through implementation / prompting. They're equally quick at addressing & implementing most UI/UX/feature suggestions.

Overall, after evaluating several similar platforms, I'd much rather some flows be tricky but still possible to build, rather than impossible altogether. Vellum is the product to use if you want to stay ahead of competition. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The ability to format and then reformat your own books, without having to go to another service, is absolutely a game changer for indie authors. You often find that any minor error in your novel will require you to go to a formatter and repay to have your book fixed. I really wish there was a version for PC as you find that it is impossible to use the mac in cloud without extreme stress. Fortunately, i have the user interface needed, but for some authors that wish they could use vellum, they simply cannot. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
