Recommendations to others considering Uikit:
Take the time to give it an honest look. Yes, development can be slow and it is internally developed only, but don't let those limitations prevent you from giving it a good look. I'm certain you will be impressed by its capabilities. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What problems is Uikit solving and how is that benefiting you?
I want a framework that is easy to use and very customizable/modular. I get that with UiKit more than other frameworks. I find it easier to completely customize my theme from the start using LESS/SASS files so I don't have a standardized boring site that looks like 10,000 other sites that use the default framework. I also like the way certain things are approached, using widths instead of column counts, that I can control layouts using flexbox, that I have image options including SVG graphics and have great built in animations available.
