It's so convenient to categorise in as many ways as possible, between formats, between WBS and filters **What do you dislike about Trimble WinEst?** The file doesn't auto save, so if we have a bad connection, we can't be sure if the changes get saved when the machine suddenly loses internet or power connection **Recommendations to others considering Trimble WinEst:** Great platform, just remember to save your files frequently, find some tips and tricks from the support and you'll love working on it. **What problems is Trimble WinEst solving and how is that benefiting you?** Switching between formats, assigning WBS and many more. The benefit is I can have my estimate built and viewed in many ways and it helps the client to view the information I give, in any way they wants. ### 4. Slowly we started migrating our estimates in WinEst and then the story of our transformation began with added n number of advantages. Winest needs a jail break **Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** June 28, 2019 **What do you like best about Trimble WinEst?** CSI format and spreadsheet makes it easy to customize , however the system is not intuitive and fails to provide feed back that could be essential in winning bids. **What do you dislike about Trimble WinEst?** Access to the software is hindered by its many add on features, you can no longer Export / Import your estimate data to a functional software, At least i have found no way in Export / Import say a CSV file to take advantage of of my historical cost data nor have i found away to copy and paste from old estimates without having to go through a mine field . Was this intentional ? Importing data into a data base should be a simple matter and not overly cumbersome. **What problems is Trimble WinEst solving and how is that benefiting you?** None , Winest was at one time a leader in construction estimating at one time because of their open platform, now it seems they are moving away from what made them a good choice. ### 9. Having the ability to mange your views, reports, assignments etc. allows for bid teams to put together a highly detailed estimate quickly and efficiently. Being able to develop database items ensures that every bid you produce will have the same look and feel - important for repeat clients. Winest also allows for simple importing of takeoff from programs like OST. WinEst's feature that allows for multiple users to edit the estimate at the same time is unbelievably useful. **What do you dislike about Trimble WinEst?** At times, WinEst controls feel counter intuitive. Also the tools available for actually developing the database can feel clunky. This means taht if you do not take the time to create a robust import file, you will spend a serious amount of time fixing your errors. WinEst is also an object based database which means that it is difficult to do mass dumps of information (mainly takeoff) into the program. While this is great for ensuring that everything is done purposefully, it does lead to extended hours of data entry **Recommendations to others considering Trimble WinEst:** Assign a team member to review past estimates to create a database to import. Once you understand how you like to put together bid packages, you can build reports and database formats that fit your sepcific needs. **What problems is Trimble WinEst solving and how is that benefiting you?** Estimating complex projects, bid package production, database development ### 10. When your company really commits to using the software it really becomes powerful. The incentive for subcontractors is to be thorough when entering their own information, so the information you can find when preparing a bid is very accurate and helpful. **What do you dislike about Trimble WinEst?** "Old-School" interface, some information doubled up or redundant. Some subcontractors are not accurate with information and it skews results. Sometimes the interface of the program seems bulky. Not as many software updates as some other programs that we use. No social media presence that I'm aware of. **Recommendations to others considering Trimble WinEst:** Push for your company to really invest their time in this product. **What problems is Trimble WinEst solving and how is that benefiting you?** Finding new subcontractors to partner with in areas we have not previously worked. The features were relatively simple but allowed me to create a full and detailed estimate. Could easily create different phases and options within the one estimate. You can also create a pretty detailed estimate with one "group condition" add. There are also a lot of detailed items so you can get a accurate estimate. You can also add items that are not listed in their system. **What do you dislike about Trimble WinEst?** Some of the functions are hidden within menu tabs. It will take a minute to find the features. My company gave us a full day class on how to use all the features and that was very beneficial. **What problems is Trimble WinEst solving and how is that benefiting you?** We were creating detailed estimates to use in bids. The interface is very easy to use once you find all the features. We were able to create accurate estimates using WinEst even if the projects had specialty items that were not in the system. You can also update the costs per unit to fix different areas you are in. ### 12.
