Earth **Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Petros S. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** May 02, 2023 **What do you like best about TerrSet?** By far the fact that TerrSet provides advanced image processing capabilities such as atmospheric correction, radiometric calibration, and orthorectification. **What do you dislike about TerrSet?** Although TerrSet has a large user community that provides support and resources, it may not have the same level of support as some other commercial geospatial software packages. **What problems is TerrSet solving and how is that benefiting you?** Monitoring crop growth and health, detecting and managing forest fires and pest outbreaks, and supporting sustainable agriculture and forestry management practices. ### 2. It support all commonly used data formats. **What problems is TerrSet solving and how is that benefiting you?** By using TerrSet software, I have carried out Land use Land Cover project along with the predection of the future growth of city. ### 3. Step-wise helps with references. **What do you dislike about TerrSet?** Lack of customisability of the map outputs. **Recommendations to others considering TerrSet:** Without having the knowledge of a GIS analyst/specialist, I found the program to be intellectually stimulating while giving all the help needed to perform the analysis. The help section built in the program tells everything you need to know to understand the models with references. I didn't take the help guide lightly because I was brain storming alone in my project and did not have access to any GIS specialist. The help section indeed save my dissertation. Although I did not face any technical/academic difficulties, I only reached to the team when I needed some help in installing my software and the response to my mail was lightening fast. I recommend Terrset to my colleagues and I implore you to give Terrset a chance too! **What problems is TerrSet solving and how is that benefiting you?** I bought a student license to complete my Masters (Wildlife Science) dissertation analysis of wildlife corridors using Land Change Modeler tool. It helped me realise how powerful and data inexpensive the tool is to identify wildlife corridor pinches which can be used to direct the survey efforts to increase feasibility for conservation. ### 4. It has eight modules focusing on different projects. It has the best Land Change Analysis tool in the field. It is easy to handle massive amount of raster data and it has powerful Time Series Analysis. It is quite stable with few bugs and it has a very detailed and helpful user guide/tutorial. I believe it is a must-have software if you are in conservation GIS, Remote Sensing, or GIS academy. **What do you dislike about TerrSet?** Overall it is a powerful Geospatial Analysis software, but it just has a little bit outdated GUI design compared to ArcGIS software from Esri. It needs users to have a more advanced GIS/remote sensing background to learn how to use it faster. It doesn't have a good mapping layout functionality which we still need to export to ArcGIS to do it, and it doesn't have a good vector visualization overlapping with base maps like QGIS can offer. It can do some improvement for vector analysis. **What problems is TerrSet solving and how is that benefiting you?** I was majorly doing GIS conservation projects, and also land use and land change time series studies in academy. It also has strong deep learning alrigorm such as MLP (Multilayer Perceptron). I realized it is powerful with a fast processing speed and it can do batch processing for a lot of raster files. ### 5. It was easy to teach myself the software. **What do you dislike about TerrSet?** The software interface is a little outdated. Actual how to videos would have been nice. **What problems is TerrSet solving and how is that benefiting you?** I used the LCM in TerrSet to model landscape change in Philadelphia. I also used GEOMOD to model green infrastructure placement. ### 6. To do this areas with high vegitation were overlayed with high rainfall and other factors. categorising the different map data and combing them together in the end proved to be relatively simple ### 7. It was easy to learn the software through tutorials. **What do you dislike about TerrSet?** The program looks fairly unmodern, I think it could be updated to match more modern application/user norms. **What problems is TerrSet solving and how is that benefiting you?** I researched and mapped voter data to understand political polarization and voter behaviors in the 2012 and 2016 ### 8. I really liked the ability to analyze remote imaging by altering the bandwidth properties to compare plant life and different soil types. **What do you dislike about TerrSet?** Using TerrSet in an online classroom environment makes for its own problems. Not having access to instructors and/or information to explain errors was tough. **What problems is TerrSet solving and how is that benefiting you?** I'm currently not working in any type of GIS field of work.
