If you're growth is outpacing your ability to handle sales tax on your own, TaxValet is the only provider that I would recommend. I know my TaxValet team is worrying about every little detail and they share regular updates with me and notify me anytime something changes. Having TaxValet as my partner has completely lifted the mental burden of sales tax compliance. To stay ahead of the curve, I onboarded with a different provider who promised to automate calculations, filings, etc. Unfortunately this software was not robust enough for the complexity of my business (multiple sales channels and both b2b and b2c) and resulted in several errors being made with calculations, registrations, and filings. What a mess! Fortunately I then discovered TaxValet who not only helped me untangle everything, but were also so thorough, communicative, and detailed during the onboarding process that I finally feel like I can stop worrying about this aspect of my business. TaxValet helped me tremendously by untangling a major sales tax mess that was created by Avalara. Avalara didn’t collect enough sales tax, which ended up coming straight out of my bottom line, and my reporting and numbers were completely off. TaxValet stepped in, figured everything out, and got everything properly corrected and set up. Now that it’s in place, it’s truly a “set it and forget it” solution. They handle everything sales tax–related, which has removed a huge source of stress and allowed me to focus on running and growing the business instead of worrying about compliance. Update to my 2024 review: We had a major change this year and TaxValet has yet again been instrumental in helping us navigate the ins and outs of sales taxes. Again they have been very thorough in assisting us, following up and making sure we stay on track. We have put them to work and they have done more than just show up and do their jobs, they have done an AMAZING job! They are extremely thorough in everything they do. We have had such a positive experience with them in the last year. We were recently with a SaS company that ran numbers, and that is all. Sure they were cheaper, but ALL they did was use their software to run numbers and submit returns to the state. If there was an issue, it was up to us to connect with the states to figure out this very complex world of sales taxes. What do you dislike about TaxValet? Update to my 2024 review: I can't think of anything that would make me say I dislike anything about them. They have risen to all the challenges that have we have tossed at them, and never have they said "that is out of scope." I would love to see them get into other aspects of taxes that come with sales tax such as helping with Registered Agents and working with the Secretary of State. I understand the limitations, and they have been helpful as they can be in this sector, but it would be awesome to have these two areas of expertise under the same roof. I recently switched from Avalara to TaxValet, and the differences have been clear from the start. The onboarding process was seamless, and our account representative, Gian, was both extremely helpful and responsive. The entire team was eager to ensure our transition happened quickly. I appreciate that TaxValet reaches out via email whenever they have updates or questions—something that never happened with Avalara, where we were left to figure things out on our own. TaxValet has done an excellent job managing our sales tax returns and ensuring we remain compliant. Keeping up with the requirements in all 50 states, including the less obvious additional tax obligations, can be overwhelming. TaxValet’s expertise across all states has been invaluable, especially when it came to helping my business register in states where we had tax liability. I also appreciate that TaxValet handles all tax notices received by mail, relieving us of the need to monitor that ourselves. As a small business, it’s easy to overlook sales tax and difficult to keep up with the changing rules, so I’m grateful to have TaxValet managing these responsibilities, allowing me to focus on other aspects of my business. We came to TaxValet after finding their detailed state-by-state breakdown of U.S. sales tax requirements. Before that, we had been using an online tax software but constantly received compliance alerts and weren’t confident we were doing things correctly. We recently completed onboarding with Alexis, who was a cheerful and incredibly competent guide throughout the process. She explained everything clearly, answered every question with patience, and was consistently responsive and available whenever we needed support. The onboarding experience itself was thorough and well-organized — something that could have felt daunting was instead made approachable and digestible in manageable steps.
