## TakeLessons Reviews
  ### 1. Great opportunity to unite students

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bil T. | Social Media Manager, Government Administration, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2024

**What do you like best about TakeLessons?**

I was able to find teachers for both my daughter who takes ukulele lessons and myself, in attempting to learn Italian. The instructor profiles were very comprehensive to make it easier for one to find an instructor who has the required experience and approach to teaching.

**What do you dislike about TakeLessons?**

The scheduling really felt off and often became irritating. Communicating with my teachers was frequently done through email or as a message through the software, which was not very effective.

**What problems is TakeLessons solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I believe that having access to a plethora of teachers in one place is definitely useful. I must admit that TakeLessons did help me find suitable tutors. My daughter is improving day by day with the ukulele and now I am refining my knowledge of the primary Italian words.

  ### 2. Wide Teacher Choice

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maximiliano M. | Project Strategy Director, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2024

**What do you like best about TakeLessons?**

TakeLessons boasts of an outstanding roster of educated teachers. There was a guitar teacher that I found, and they taught me well based on the way I learned. Having all those resources within my room is like being connected to an extended music-class network outside of the school.

**What do you dislike about TakeLessons?**

It is been challenging to schedule lessons. Unfortunately many teachers have tight schedules, moreover, the most popular instruments, especially guitar, are very popular and teachers get many students I often find out that I have to wait for weeks just to book a time that suits us both.

**What problems is TakeLessons solving and how is that benefiting you?**

TakeLessons resolves the issue of finding a competent music-teacher through their online service. I may browse through the profiles and reserve lessons such that I can do every operation via one platform. Such an annual flexibility is a fantastic perk for me as a busy person.

  ### 3. Good booking software.

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anna L. | Content Writer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 13, 2019

**What do you like best about TakeLessons?**

Allows me to connect with students who I otherwise wouldn’t meet.

**What do you dislike about TakeLessons?**

How much money they keep for the first lessons booked.

**What problems is TakeLessons solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I’m receiving additional clients!

  ### 4. Useful for finding students, but a platform that doesn't value its instructors

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Traci F. | Dancer, Performing Arts, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 10, 2021

**What do you like best about TakeLessons?**

It's a very easy platform for students to find teachers. I had many long term private students connect with me over the app. As a dance teacher, this intermediary platform was really useful.

**What do you dislike about TakeLessons?**

TakeLessons is much better for the student than the teacher. Students pay the same price from beginning to end, and teachers pay the consequences of having to complete 20 lessons before achieving 90% of their asking price.

There is almost no information given about the student before acceptance. I had to ask the student where they were booking from as I moved from East Coast to West Coast. I ended up having to accept the student before being able to communicate with them if it was a good fit.

The worst thing about it is that I ran into a complication of whether or not a student would be a good fit, and discussing their location, and whether they had access to a dance studio, as they were looking for lessons close to home. After speaking with customer service for an extended period, they accused me of lying on the phone, and since calls are recorded, I asked for a transcript, and they refused, though I am certain that when speaking with the representative I had given different information than they had stated, hoping to book clients at all costs. It caused me to leave the platform.

**What problems is TakeLessons solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Finding clients to book.

  ### 5. Loved the idea but poor execution

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Performing Arts | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 08, 2021

**What do you like best about TakeLessons?**

There were a lot of classes available with lots of time slots

**What do you dislike about TakeLessons?**

The classes were useless. The instructors would cater to people Who clearly were not ready for the class. Therefore making it a waste for the rest of the people in the class. If I'm taking an advanced ukulele class, The first 50% of the class should not be trying to help people get tuned

**What problems is TakeLessons solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I got billed for six months of lessons when I didn't take a single class because I decided it was useless. By the time I realized this
And asked for my money back, they refused to refund all of it

  ### 6. No students have signed up so far through this service.

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eddie L. | Music Director and Staff Arranger, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 14, 2020

**What do you like best about TakeLessons?**

I like the interface. It's easy to work with. I used to be a Thumbtack.com user but they began charging fees that didn't make sense for music lessons. That's when TakeLessons showed up. I believe, based on the interface, that TakeLessons is an extension of Thumbtack or something. There's some sort of connection because the interface is identical.

**What do you dislike about TakeLessons?**

I can't blame TakeLessons directly. I think they have a good system that probably works for most people? I have been with them at least a couple years now and I've never had a single student sign up through their service. I believe this is probably because the people using TakeLessons are most likely looking for cheap lessons. I don't think 90% of the people looking for lessons on TakeLessons can afford my rates.

Like I said, I can't blame TakeLessons for that. But so, far for me it has been a waste of money.

The charges are made with you connect to the potential client. I receive an average of two or three leads per week. Some are for trumpet lessons but I'm also signed up to teach music theory and/or composition. For a while I was responding to every single lead, but after over a year of no students gained, I became a bit more selective.

Now, if I wasn't getting students outside of TakeLessons, then I would have assumed I was doing something wrong. But I do get students through my own personal website. So I don't think that's it. It has something to do with what types of clients are using TakeLessons to find teachers.

**Recommendations to others considering TakeLessons:**

I think TakeLessons can work well if you are new to teaching lessons. If you can afford to charge competitive prices, then the people who search through TakeLessons will probably be very keen to sign up.

There are other services that help connect music lesson teachers to the clients. I think this one is the best of them all. I have tried all of them and I think that TakeLessons' interface is far more professional than the others.

**What problems is TakeLessons solving and how is that benefiting you?**

So far, nothing.

  ### 7. Great for Students, Not for Teachers

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rebecca R. | Elementary Band Director, Education Management, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 13, 2017

**What do you like best about TakeLessons?**

When I used this website I loved that I did not have to deal with the money when giving private lessons. I always found that awkward. This website took care of that for you- they billed the students and direct deposited the money for you. They also found students for you.

**What do you dislike about TakeLessons?**

I had a lot of issues with customer service for this website. I would be assigned students that were not anywhere near where I was located and expected to take them, even though it was outside of the mileage I marked on my profile. Dealing with customer service to rectify this was not pleasant.

I also stopped using this website after they increased the percentage they took out of each lesson price.

**Recommendations to others considering TakeLessons:**

TakeLessons is more friendly toward the student rather than the teacher. If you are looking for a private teacher this is a good place to start because you can pay online and don't have to worry about writing a check each week. If you are a private teacher I would not recommend TakeLessons.

**What problems is TakeLessons solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They make billing for private lessons much simpler for students and teachers. Rather than private teachers dealing with checks/cash during their lessons, the site takes care of this and direct deposits it into the teachers' account.

  ### 8. Review by a TA

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Karen H. | Teaching Assistant, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2018

**What do you like best about TakeLessons?**

The best thing about TakeLessons is that I do not have to deal with the fee and the transaction processing by myself, and the app takes care of it for me. It is a great place to advertise yourself if you are a budding teacher/professional and just wanna make some money. The website is fairly easy to navigate through and gives recommendations for other students who need the help!

**What do you dislike about TakeLessons?**

The transaction charges/cut of takelessons is fairly huge. Other than that, I have also had issues in the past with making my profile visible to all and that probably affected the number of bookings by new students.

**Recommendations to others considering TakeLessons:**

The interface can definitely be converted to a good app and be made more user accessible, but it is a good place to get started.

**What problems is TakeLessons solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used this for my job as a teaching assistant and to also give private tutoring sessions. This has taken me a step ahead into building my career as a professional teacher. Good source to market!

  ### 9. It's a good client management service

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Riley A. | Assistant Professor, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 12, 2018

**What do you like best about TakeLessons?**

It has a good attendance tracking service which makes it easy to communicate with your teacher/student. The online payment system is pretty straightforward, and the best thing is that it also provides a feature to take online classes.

**What do you dislike about TakeLessons?**

Takelessons is overly expensive. It's not very easy to keep track of the students near you or far from you because in the latter case, it makes the communication particularly difficult.

**Recommendations to others considering TakeLessons:**

I feel that their platform can definitely be improved greatly but if you are a new teacher/tutor, I would recommend trying this to hike up the sales.

**What problems is TakeLessons solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have used it to provide online lectures to some of the students near our locations. It has helped in increasing our marketing sales and finding/helping new students, however the tracking features for the students do need help.

  ### 10. Very easy to manage

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Irina H. | Tutoring Coordinator, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 03, 2018

**What do you like best about TakeLessons?**

Very good advertising for students depending upon the type of teacher and their location. It is easy to manage your own schedules through this and communicate easily with the students to set up times.

**What do you dislike about TakeLessons?**

It is pretty expensive and does not have a lot of discount codes available. They take a lot of commission for the initial lessons and do not make the earning for the teachers and tutors easy.

**Recommendations to others considering TakeLessons:**

Please make sure that the amount of money charged works alright for you and that you are able to have successful communication as a trial beforehand.

**What problems is TakeLessons solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have private tutors and teachers work for us who have used TakeLessons, and it is definitely a good tool for others to popularize themselves. But they have a very high service fees and bad interface.

  ### 11. Takelessons.com Review by Violin/Viola Teacher

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Music | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 23, 2017

**What do you like best about TakeLessons?**

That they advertise for me, and I don't have to pay anything up front (they take a percentage if you book a student).

**What do you dislike about TakeLessons?**

I think that it's a lot to require students to purchase a package of 5 lessons to start. I think that they should offer a trial lesson first. Also, takelessons takes a significant percentage, so I had to increase my lesson rate and I think it deterred some potential students.

**Recommendations to others considering TakeLessons:**

Make sure you respond quickly to all message threads- they will cut off the thread after a day or two if you don't respond, and you don't have any other way to contact the potential student.

**What problems is TakeLessons solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I joined Takelessons in order to grow my private teaching studio. I have gotten three students from this site, and they are all great students that would not have found me otherwise.
