In short, what SuperTables does is that it takes a bunch of data which you can then format to look like it does in Excel. This is important because you can now do what most Excel power users do: filtering, sorting, grouping, auto-sizing columns, etc. You can also add calculated columns based on existing columns as you would in the table feature in Excel or the calculated column in Power BI. A neat feature is that you can select a group of cells by right-clicking and dragging and then save it as a CSV file. I would say that SuperTables is a pretty neat feature in Tableau and Power BI for those who aren't well-versed with Tableau or Power BI. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The most significant disadvantage that I find about SuperTables is that it won't let you get hands-on with Tableau or Power BI. Tableau and Power BI are not easy BI tools to master and have a steep learning curve even though it may seem deceptively easy for the first time user. SuperTables helps the user create an Excel-like interface within Tableau/Power BI. Instead, the user should work around this by learning the nuances and the different visualizations within these BI tools and using SuperTables only as a last resort. Note that an argument could be made that some cases would genuinely need a visualization like SuperTables, but the row size issue crops up in these cases. In Power BI, SuperTables can load up to 30,000 without experiencing lag but will get laggy afterward, and this is mentioned on the official extension page itself. This isn't good because most data you would use a BI tool for would cross the 30,000-row limit, thus rendering SuperTables redundant. Finally, this is just me; the free version is limited to only 100 rows in Power BI and even fewer in Tableau. I wish this were bigger, say around 1000; I understand that the developers need to sell the product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
