I like that Supernova provides a sense of what a design system should have. It's fairly simple to publish updates, which I find convenient. Tracking the status of components is probably one of the more valuable features for us, as it lets us quickly and easily communicate the status of each component for a given platform. I find the content editor difficult to work with, especially since copy/pasting isn't easy. Tables within the content are very painful to use due to this. It would be awesome if it had a markdown mode to simplify content creation. The exporters were a letdown for mobile applications; in general, Supernova doesn't support mobile as well as we hoped. The initial setup was a little confusing. Flipping between design systems created some confusion, and it took us a bit of time to orient ourselves and understand the limits, like the number of sub-sections allowed. The token and component sync works best for us. Pipelines are very fast and easy to create, although we did have to customize ours to fit our needs. Documenting components via MCP isn’t possible right now, and that’s the biggest missing piece in our overall pipeline with Supernova.

The pipelines could also be stronger and more customizable. For example, on the web side we ended up creating our own pipeline because we couldn’t achieve the Tailwind structure we were aiming for.

We’re using the native Supernova plugin in Figma, but the supported token types still aren’t sufficient. Because Supernova wasn’t picking up those token types from our design system, we had to do a lot of manual work in Supernova and remove those items from Figma to keep things consistent. I like Supernova for its wide range of composable pieces for tokens, assets, documentation, and the increasing amount of AI supporting tools. The Figma and Storybook integrations for documentation make it the perfect design system companion. Supernova serves as the bridge between design and code and is our source of truth for usage documentation. One improvement that could be made is some form of autodocs to help improve initial onboarding and faster value realization. The initial setup took some time, but mostly due to me having limited time to dedicate to it. I like that Supernova solves our need for a central source of documentation and automates token generation and asset distribution, which is fantastic for making our design system accessible to everyone on the team. The documentation platform and the token automation feature are particularly valuable to us. Supernova allows our design system team to have direct control over processes, letting us import from Figma, document, then export tokens through an automated pipeline right into our development environment. Additionally, the setup process was pretty easy with everything well documented, and the help from their solution engineers made the installation smooth and running great. The integration with Figma sometimes is a little bit lackluster. Importing frames works great sometimes, but other times it's a little bit on the erratic part. I really like how the tokens and connected components are presented. The documentation feels intuitive and straightforward to create, and overall I find the platform easy to understand and work with. About integrations, my favorite is storybook and the figma integration I think that it could improve because sometimes, the figma update takes a while to arrive. I think there's a lot of room for improvement with AI; the results are often not good, either because it's not reading the documentation properly, sometimes it takes too long, and the loading status appears even when you haven't run anything. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The token architecture and the way component specs translate directly into developer-ready code close the gap that usually exists between what a designer ships in Figma and what an engineer actually builds.
