## Study Island Reviews
  ### 1. Great for students and easy for teachers to use!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ethan T. | Teacher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 27, 2022

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

I like the ease of assigning materials for students to complete. I can use this to cover materials that students need more help on. I've noticed an increase in overall student mastery.

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

I dislike how at times you need to manually adjust student accounts. I have noticed an issue with Clever integration that has required a few of my students to use an alternate way to log in.

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are seeing lots of growth on the individual level in students that use study island to cover science standards. Making sure that students learn how to effectively study is also a great plus.

  ### 2. wtf is this

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 25, 2022

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

it's horrible it's dumb you click the right answer it's wrong it's so dumb it's funny that schools pay for this and it's dumb nobody likes it if you do its really dumb you learn nothing might as well stare at a wall for the rest of your life cuz it the same thing as study island

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

you click the right answer but it's wrong and the crab is so extra my school pays like 5000 a month for this that's sad

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

you click the right answer it's wrong you click the wrong answer its wrong you click a random answer its wrong and the answer that doesn't even make sense is right

  ### 3. Study Island

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 08, 2021

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

Study Island is a great resource for designing your own mini-lessons and assessments. You can use it "as is" but it is better utilized by personalizing it to your current curriculum and students.

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

It has a very limited bank of questions for each standard. This makes it difficult if a student needs to practice again because eventually they will start running into the same questions they did before, which isn't helpful.

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Study Island is great for supplementing the current curriculum when I feel like there should be a bit more included in a unit of study. I can go to SI and find the skill and just add it to my plans for day/week.

  ### 4. A Very Underrated Supplemental Educational Program!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tracy L. | Teacher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2021

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

There are so many lessons available for each grade level, subject, etc. They have Common Core, US, and state standards. It is very organized!

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

I wish that all of their lessons had videos, but I understand that why that is impossible.

**Recommendations to others considering Study Island:**

Check out their wealth of lessons available. Their inventory is vast.

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is an excellent way for online students to extra assistance on a specific lesson. Yes, we have small group instruction; however, we cannot teach everything. This is where Study Island helps.

  ### 5. I can't comprehend how one site can cause so much frustration.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2021

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

Nothing. There's nothing good about this site I can think of.

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

I have been using this for 3 years now. My school district requires this, so everyone in my school does this as well. And I can tell you with absolute confidence, every single student I've ever known hates this with a passion. The questions can be so confusing sometimes, to the point in which I don't even understand them anymore and get the answer wrong. Then that little crab comes and mocks me like I've done something wrong, when they haven't even formatted their questions to be readable, much less understandable. When you get one question wrong, it lowers your grade so much to the point that you can't even get more than a 91 again. Some of the questions are literally WRONG, just flat out wrong. If you wanna try again at the lesson and reset it, guess what? YOU CAN'T. You'll have to go through it and answer all the questions before you can try again. If you're going too fast, a text will pop up on the screen and read, "Are You Guessing?". Are you guessing... are you kidding me?? How are you gonna make someone literally WAIT for a half minute because there going too fast? Maybe they wouldn't be "Guessing" if you had coded a reset button, but no, they're too lazy to do that. I'm 13 and can code for a button single-handedly, but you telling me a corporation with over 100's of people can't? That's just truly sad.. and the cost of this is ridiculously unreasonable for such garbage. For one year (Keep in mind, this is for ONE student), it's $180. $180 FOR THIS. TELL ME THAT'S NOT A CASH GRAB!

To sum it up, with the amount of inconsistency, greediness, laziness and just in general poor management of this website, this is clearly not worth it. Coming from 3 years of torture, here's what I have to say; parents, please don't have your children do this. Schools, please don't assign this. Study Island, improve your godforsaken system.

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm trying to figure out how and why schools still use this.

  ### 6. THIS IS TERRIBLE

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Melissa H. | Middle school English teacher , Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 24, 2018

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

I like how I can personalize the program to the needs of each individual student.

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

Sometimes the skills are too difficult even at a lower level for students.

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Students can get individualized skills practice on their level.

  ### 8. THE CRAB JUDGES YOU SILENTLY

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Airlines/Aviation | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

NOTHING. THE CRAB JUST SITS THERE AND TELLS YOU TO "TRY AGAIN" WHEN YOU LITEALLY GET IT WRONG PLEASE FIX THIS!

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

THAT DANG CRAB. PLEASE GET RID OF ITTTTTTTTT

**Recommendations to others considering Study Island:**

Please fix the bug, crab animation, and score adjustments

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MY BIGGEST PROBLEM I HAVE ISN'T SOLVED. Also, It when you get a better score after completing an assessment, your highest score should be your overall score, not your best one!! It makes it really easy to mess up and really hard to do good!!!!

  ### 9. I HATE the CRAB SOOOOOOO MUCH!!!

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** 22118 n. | student, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 20, 2020

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. This site is an absolute monstrosity, and a disgrace upon God's land.

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

Im going to LOSE MY MARBLES i HATE the CRAB SOOOOOOOO MUCH. I'm GOING to crush the next crab i see out of PURE HATE. I will release my FURY upon this ungodly being. The designers of study island have completely LOST THEIR MIND. This crab is a MENACE, and a threat to HOMELAND SECURITY. This is my first and FINAL warning, fix this issue, or I will do it myself.

**Recommendations to others considering Study Island:**

DO NOT USE IT ITS SO BAD CRAB BAD CRAB BAD. DONT USE STUDY ISLAND AND SUPPORT ITS COMMIE CRAB MASCOT. HE IS THE ANTI-CHRIST.

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

NOTHING IS BEING SOLVED, I HATE THIS SITE AND ITS STUPID WORTHLESS CRAB.

  ### 10. Simply horrible

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

There is nothing helpful about study island

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

It takes my parents my college level sisters and I a whole lot of time to TRY and figure out the questions and then we try about a hundred different solutions and none of them work and then we try our absolutely best possible answer and get the questions wrong. We check the explanations and they basically say: "our answer is right because it is."

**Recommendations to others considering Study Island:**

Stay away from it at any and all costs

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Study Island to do math during the quarantine and it has only made this incredibly stressful situation, (especially for students) ten thousand time more stressful

  ### 11. data is clear, students love it!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kerri W. | Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 06, 2019

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

It's great for looking at data and grouping your students. Students love being on the computer and you can choose whether or not to have games incorporated into the lesson. Students can keep track of how well they are doing and it provides them with instant feedback. Many times my students tell me their scores before I (get a chance) see them! It's easy for me to see what my students do in their core reading class (I'm a reading specialist.) I also love how my district has synced the Clever extension so passwords are no longer needed.

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

Sometimes it's hard to remember where Study Island ends and Edmentum begins. It is probably the closest practice we can use for our state testing, but not good enough in my opinion.

**Recommendations to others considering Study Island:**

Make sure your district trains you well and gives printed instructions and highlights the areas of importance they would like you to work on with the kids or that they feel will be of use to the district.

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Differentiated instruction is a breeze with Study Island. I feel more confident that while I'm working one on one with some students, I know the time the other students are spending on Study Island is still quality.

  ### 12. Great way to encourage students to study skills!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Faith D. | Student Life Assistant, Environmental Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

Study Island is very easy to use for both instructors and students and offers technology based assessments that engage students and allow them to visualize their progress.

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

I really wish that there were more options for skill assessment that weren't so test-heavy.

**Recommendations to others considering Study Island:**

I definitely would not over-utilize the program in your classroom. The assessments are very test-based so it is very easy for students to get bored of it.

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I utilize Study Island to supplement instruction in my classroom in a way that allows students to assess their mastery of skills independently.

  ### 13. Great Tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 16, 2019

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

Very easy to use and assign students assessments. Great tool to use to prepare and even has mini lessons the students can watch. Great resource to print from and compare to standards.

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

Quizzes take a bit to make and require exporting into word, but then you can edit to your personal needs!

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Assessment and data collection, assigning and monitoring practice problems and assessments.

  ### 14. Great supplement

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2019

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

I like that it is based off of the standards and follows a child’s personal level

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

I do not like that there is No science for lower grades. I think it would be very helpful

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has helped students retain knowledge and close the gap of learning

  ### 15. Absolutely the worst approach to learning I've ever witnessed.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2019

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

What do I like. It's in English (mostly). It's online and web based. It's mostly multiple guess. That's it.

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

Everything else. Content is often vague. Questions that have an obvious correct answer are graded incorrectly. Evident that no one double checked the questions and answers. Inaccurate information. Very frustrating to students.

**Recommendations to others considering Study Island:**

Don't do it. It's really horrid.

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Would encourage some level of quality control to the end product. Have some employees try to work through the curriculum. See no benefits to this product short of frustrating students and destroying any joy they have in learning.

  ### 16. Provides Great Standards Based Materials

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 01, 2019

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

Allows me to pull valiable standards aligned teaching resources

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

Can be difficult to nagivagate and creating tests takes a long time

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data tracking, practice for students, tracking homework

  ### 17. Great Test Taking Practice

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rainah P. | Teacher, Education Management, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 29, 2017

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

I love that the questions are tech enhanced! The fact that the resources will differentiate based on student levels is unbeatable as far as I am concerned.

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

I would like to see more questions in the test bank. Some standards have multiple examples but some have very few. With a more even playing field, the program would be even more user friendly!

**Recommendations to others considering Study Island:**

I would recommend learning how to use the Build Test library and pulling reports. You can really see the value of the program when you use these key features. The kids like the games aspect, but I would set the cut score to 70% or higher.

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are trying to expose our students to test-taking software and formats before they are expected to complete online testing. This software has helped to build our students' stamina and patience with the test taking system. The gains are immeasurable.

  ### 18. Differentiation at your Fingertips

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 05, 2018

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

Study Island allows for immediate data tracking in the classroom. Not only are students given assignments and practice lessons based on an initial pre-test, they are constantly provided work that is meant to improve their knowledge. The ability to differentiate student instruction, without spending an inordinate amount of time planning, means each student is receiving more student-centered instructional time than before.

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

The only issues with Study Island are that it always appears extremely test-based. Students are required to answer multiple-choice questions the majority of the time, and they are always it what appears to be the standardized testing environment. You are absolutely able to answer questions and help students with work, but they always have ten questions to answer on a topic, and it is always multiple-choice. The result of this testing-style approach is that most students despise using the software and must be bribed to complete work in the system. They absolutely see improvement in their abilities, but it is very much a struggle to motivate them to try.

**Recommendations to others considering Study Island:**

Study Island is a great software for improving student abilities. However, students easily become burned out on the constant monotony of a testing environment, and start refusing to try or work in the program. I have found it best to designate a single day of the week for Study Island, so students are not overworked in the program. It can also be used as an enrichment activity once students finish their regular classroom assignments.

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This software was purchased for students who are behind in reading and math skills. The software was then implemented in lab classes, where students receive more individualized instructional time, and more direct counseling with teachers. This has been a great tool for those students who struggle with reading skills, or are significantly behind their peers.

  ### 19. Study Island

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cortnee P. | Reading Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 29, 2017

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

Study Island offers grade- and subject-specific benchmark assessments. These are aligned practice tools we use for our kiddos as exit tickets on a daily basis.

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

It's not the most engaging. The texts could be more interesting and they should add graphics or more appealing information. Many of the students find the activities to be a little boring. Therefore, Study Island is not really the kind of program that the average student is eager to jump on and get going.

**Recommendations to others considering Study Island:**

The program is a bit hard to navigate. Take some time and bookmark places you want to get to quickly because it can be hard to find a specific page twice.

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I love the downloadable materials available by standard and focus. Teachers may also access lesson plans for specific skills if necessary. There is plenty of supplemental work to push your students where they need it.

  ### 20. DSI

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 31, 2018

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

This program allows an entire class to be assigned to a student, allowing students to work at their own pace to complete a series of exercises.

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

For some subjects, like chemistry, there is very little content. This program has not yet expanded to have thorough content for some higher level high school classes.

**Recommendations to others considering Study Island:**

for math, I would use ALEKS math if possible; Kahn academy may also be an alternative to consider

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This program was widely used for students that were performing below grade level in math and English. The diagnostic test allows students to know what they are already proficient at. The blue ribbons keep students motivated to achieve these smaller goals.

  ### 21. It works and can be useful

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Neal C. | Adjunct Business Statistics Instructor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 24, 2018

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

The software is useful, and can help students improve their class performance and perhaps test scores.

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

I wish it was more flexible. That may just be my own inflexibility, but that is my opinion.

**Recommendations to others considering Study Island:**

Give it and you time to become acclimated. Do not rush to judgment. You may regret hasty decisions. I was resistant to the product due to loyalty to another software, and that may have had a negative impact on my experience. Patience is usually rewarded.

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it to help student test performance, and it may have worked in time.

  ### 22. When you want to know what your student's can do

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jennifer C. | K-8 Lead Teacher, Education Management, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2017

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

I like that the students area given stepping blocks and lessons when they do not get an answer correct. It is also great that you can create your own assessments and truly target the skills that you are working on in the classroom.

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

I don't like that once a student doesn't master a topic, they have to overcome that bad grade average before it will show them mastered. Students become frustrated when they have to take 100+ questions to get to the mastery level, even if those questions are correctly answered.

**Recommendations to others considering Study Island:**

Make sure you have the time to properly implement the program. Students love this program and are typically very engaged in the program. I find they can use it both at home and at school which is great for parents too. There is a strong correlation between the results we see with this program and the results on our standardized assessments.

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using it to get a good picture of what our students are able to do outside of instruction. Teachers can use the program to guide their classroom instruction and know how to group students. Students will be able to know where they are with any given concept and have lessons to work on around that concept. We used it at our school to help us predict how students would do on our standardized state assessment. It worked great as a predictor.

  ### 23. Great for State Testing Prep

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2018

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

I like that students can work independently. I used Study Island for both my academic classes as well as my AP course.

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

I wanted a wider variety of questions and the ability to import my own questions from other test prep resources.

**Recommendations to others considering Study Island:**

Study Island is a great way for you to differentiate your instruction!

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was able to assign students to do review work or extra credit work on topics they had missed in class throughout the semester or assign topics they were still struggling with at the end of the semester. You can customize assignments based on students' needs as well.

  ### 24. Study Island in the Classroom

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maria C. | Teacher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2018

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

I like the individual learning path for each student that allows them to work at their own pace.

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

The price compared to other comparable programs.

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Individualized learning platform to track student growth over the course of the school year.

  ### 25. Study Island for Elementary Students

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 04, 2018

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

Students enjoy the different games and tend to have their favorites.

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

Students are easily able to spend more times on academics.

**Recommendations to others considering Study Island:**

This program does keep up with the changing standards and adjusts activities to stay current.

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Teachers need to realize this is not teaching students. It’s reviewing and reinforcing what they already know.

  ### 26. Helps with Intervention

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2017

**What do you like best about Study Island?**

Ease of use. I rarely have to troubleshoot or train our staff because of the ease of using this software. I can easily add our NWEA results to help customize learning for a student.

**What do you dislike about Study Island?**

It took a coupe weeks to get the integration with Clever to work with Study Island so we can auto roster our students.

**Recommendations to others considering Study Island:**

Better follow-up from help desk.

**What problems is Study Island solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We no longer have to continuously update our roster. This software provides a much needed resource for those students that need an intervention.
