It's exactly what I've been looking for for my younger daughter! She enjoys writing stories independently and we also enjoy creating them together. This software brings creating a story/book to a whole other level! The software is amazingly simple to use and offers so many incredible tools and options - from custom characters and backgrounds to adding your voice, music and sound effects. Additionally, you can publish your finished product. I would highly recommend to a friend or colleagues! **What do you dislike about StoryJumper?** There is absolutely nothing I dislike about this software. It exceeded any and all expectations! **What problems is StoryJumper solving and how is that benefiting you?** This software provides amazing tools for my daughter to channel her imagination and creativity productively. We are always looking for creative outlets and this software is an exceptional resource for that! ### 3. The publishing options are also very cool. **What do you dislike about StoryJumper?** I dislike how there are only a few props and scenes in the gallery and you have to import them one by one in order to add them to your gallery. There should be more built in to choose from or "themes" that can be imported that have a set of related scenes/props to make things more efficient. **Recommendations to others considering StoryJumper:** StoryJumper is a great tool for educators and is easy to use which makes it applicable to all age levels. I would recommend for high school students such as mine as an alternative to the boring old PowerPoint presentation we've all grown to know and hate, or for elementary students as a creative way to create their own story books instead of on paper. **What problems is StoryJumper solving and how is that benefiting you?** Students can develop their own story books based on what they learned. It is a fun creative way to demonstrate understanding of topics covered in class. ### 4. Makes it easier for students to see where their efforts will lead. Tangible, exciting reward for doing the work, and results in positive self-esteem. **What do you dislike about StoryJumper?** I would rewrite some of the reflection questions. **What problems is StoryJumper solving and how is that benefiting you?** Helps organize the author as they proceed through the process. Multi-sensory engagement also makes this user-friendly. ### 5. It takes a potentially difficult thing and makes it easy for kids to do. Some kids who feel they lack the creative ability to draw can use Story Jumper to create exactly what they want. I've also used Story Jumper with kids who lack imaginative abilities and this helps to get their imaginations going. I also love the fact that it is a browser based program so if your school or facility has firewall protection you can probably still use it because it does not require you to download it and it would be easier to request permission from the administration for a website rather than for a software you need to download. So that adds convenience as well. **What do you dislike about StoryJumper?** I dislike not being able to properly center items on the page, however this could be me coming from a graphic design standpoint. I'm used to being able to snap to the center of the page and even though I know this is a fun activity for kids some of them take it seriously and can get frustrated when its not perfect for their parents or their therapists or siblings etc. Also it would be nice to have text consistency. I noticed that if you chose a template you have to keep changing the text to the one you want. If you could chose the text in the beginning and then just use that it would be less time consuming. **Recommendations to others considering StoryJumper:** Theres not much recommendation except to watch the video that first pops up. It will show you everything you need to know. The site is already pretty comprehensive even if you lack computer skills it's still very easy to use even for the younger kids. **What problems is StoryJumper solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Story Jumper for kids in therapy some of them have autism and we use it to work on their imaginations. We also use it to show their feelings and emotions during the week using a story. They could use it to tell me what happened at school or at home or what they did over the weekend etc. The biggest benefit I've seen is that the kids who don't like to talk or who don't have the ability yet can use it to express themselves and communicate. ### 6. My high school students love working with the program because they can either use the graphics and scenery supplied or import images and/or photos from the internet or from their personal collection. Teachers can create a free account that has a temporary password for students and the site supplies individualized permission slips for each student so that his/her parent/guardian can sign and return in order for the student to have home access to the site. When in class, the teacher starts a time clock so that students can work on their creations. There are several pricing options for ordering completed books. **What do you dislike about StoryJumper?** Since I am a World Language teacher, I would like it to have accents that can be inserted as students are writing their text. Text now has to be written in Word and copy and pasted into the book. A few free downloads without a watermark would also be nice. One has to open it in various browsers in order to see which one works the best. **Recommendations to others considering StoryJumper:** It's a great idea to create a class account instead of having students do it on their own. With the account, the teacher can check student progress and all student work is available for editing and purchasing (if the teacher wishes to do so). The book pricing was very reasonable and once ordered, the books were delivered in 10 days. **What problems is StoryJumper solving and how is that benefiting you?** Making these bilingual books was a great way of addressing one of our national standards - communities. The books that we created were in honor of the Hermione, a replica of the ship on which Lafayette sailed, which will be coming to our city this summer.
