Redgate Monitor is designed for DBA-focused visibility, and does not bring other "distractions". **What do you dislike about Redgate Monitor?** I've noticed many times Redgate agent as our top consumer on TempDB usage login. We have also noticed the agent blocking one of our internal processing order job (coming from the SQL Server Instance path - confirmed by Redgate Support). The fact that Redgate does not integrate with other components, limits its value as a "company-wide observability". We work with a third party vendor and have been able to use the Redgate product to find issues that we reported back to the vendor. We even did it so often that the vendor changed their product to start using Redgate. **What do you dislike about Redgate Monitor?** We do not use Oracle, Postgres, or other database products, just Microsoft SQL Server which is why we bought the original SQL Monitor. All the other added database products are just extra weight and the continued notices about other products is annoying. **What problems is Redgate Monitor solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have used Redgate Monitor to track high CPU usage, long running queries, failed SQL Agent jobs. With each alert we have the information to go directly to the source of the issue and quickly resolve it. Many times we have been able to fix problem code before the users are even aware that there was a problem. For small shops with limited staff this was a HUGE benefit. It was also beneficial to our small developer staff when we can point them directly to the code that needs to be changed. We love how redgate is easy to read, alerts & overview brings already a lot of informations and in efficient real time. The notification by mail is also a good point as we don't have to connect everytime with it. As well, the query viewer and the statistics of SQL queries are very useful and helped us many times during troubleshooting. To end it, we obviously like the link with Active Directory to bring some access via SSO to our users. **What do you dislike about Redgate Monitor?** It is somtimes complex when you dig into alerts details and it takes a little bit of time to understand everything. With Redgate, we are able to give the developpers queries that causes these queues. Also, we encounters a lot of lock and deadlocks that are well explained in RedGate Monitor. However, the alerts frequently lack sufficient detail so I have a query embedded in the notification to run to get the details regarding what triggered the alert **What do you dislike about Redgate Monitor?** Portability of custom metrics does not exist. Sometimes there is not enough control over alerts and how they are triggered. The trigger condition/details are not provided in the notification so I have to run additional queries to actually get the desired information. It took several emails with support to get licensing squared. With SW i will need a week to set the same **What do you dislike about Redgate Monitor?** RG is big an was acquired recently, I warry about great product potential quality regression. and you did not give me RG friend status yet :D **What problems is Redgate Monitor solving and how is that benefiting you?** as I said, comparing to competitors, it allows to set up alertting and motitoring on 100+ vital metrics. Others like SW or even worse DD cannpot do that and it can take weeks. ALso analysis tab is pretty powerful and ple please dont change the design of it ### 17. It is more affordable than many of the competitors. We have begun to test the AI features which are showing some promise in helping evaluate queries and troubleshoot issues. The tools to identify problematic queries has helped us track down queries that have been impacting production activities. Using alerts for some administrative activities has allowed us to keep track of bloat related to excessive use of linkedservers. I like the dashboard for quickly finding problems and addressing them. **What do you dislike about Redgate Monitor?** Updates do not allow for using gMSA accounts to start the needed services. I would like if it could allow that from the GUI update tool. In the top queries tool it would be super helpful to be able to add login name and source host to the display. It takes time to correlate the query in the sql server to find further details on the query. Adding granular permissions for users has been a little clunky for us. Additionally we use the top query to troubleshoot and improve performance of tools like Excel that people use to access the databases. It should be 10x, at least, the # of DBs you can monitor for the same price. 2. there is alot of overalp with what we already get in terms of monitoring with Azure SQL Server, which is also integrated better into our PaaS. 3. we have to maintain a full, costly VM(s) to run this tool. this is pretty much a deal breaker. SQL Monitor should be a subscription that we just connect to our Azure environment and it does it's magic, integrating with our cloud vendor, helping meet our SOC2 requirements, and we dont have to worry about infrastructure. Running VMs causes all sorts of additional costs and red flags with our certifications. Not to mention, a subscription to a SQL Monitor service just makes way more sense for us that having to maintain all the infrastructure behind it. 4. our salesperson said that we would be able to connect additional DBs beyond the limit, but that turned out not to be the case.
