Their cloud version is the same product running on their servers and that would relieve you of the work we put in, as I'll describe, but we wouldn't have it any other way. The on-prem version is what we like the most about this "software." We have another VM running at an alternate site, they sync with each other and one can take over if the other is down or unreachable. They also can load-balance. Yes this solution is a little more complex than are previous solution. But it's in the complexity that you get the flexibility. SpamTitan support has helped us tweak the settings based on what we're seeing in the console. Excellent history report shows everything, or you can filter very easily. Unfiltered you can see blocked (and why), quarantined, accepted...everything. If you don't see it, that email did not get to you, and in our experience it has been a Sender issue every time. SpamTitan, with the clustered configuration is less than half the cost of our old solution and we never have to upgrade or replace the "appliance" because it's just a VM, or one of our physical servers, either way, you never face an End of Life "you must upgrade" mandate from SpamTitan. Also - these servers will spool email until they can reach the email server. So if your email server is down or unreachable, you most likely are still getting email. **What do you dislike about SpamTitan Email Security?** Well...it does require us to do some of the lifting and I have discovered there was a lot I didn't know about fighting spam. I turned on one block setting and started blocking emails I didn't want to block, okay...turned that back off. We had warned all of our employees that we were switching products and to be on the lookout for spam and/or missing emails. Most reports were false, but in some cases there was a problem with the settings and this helped us to tweak the product. Also be aware that you need to use a trusted IP address or your emails may end up in the recipient's spam folder. We just used the IP from our old solution once we ran into this issue. There are certainly other examples, things not working right because we didn't set it up just right (we tend to do things on our own, we learn more that way). Every time we've gotten stuck I have gone to the website and checked their knowledge base. If I didn't find the answer I create a ticket. If you give them a console-generated code they can get into your system and look at your settings. After a month or two I think we have the settings where we want them. However, we keep an eye on the history report, watching for any signs of trouble. The product worked well right out of the box, but now it's really doing a good job, without blocking good emails (yes, some bad emails get through, but it's at least as good as our old expensive managed solution). **Recommendations to others considering SpamTitan Email Security:** SpamTitan does not enable everything by default, and you most likely will want to enable a couple of things they don't. Get on the phone with them and go through the settings pretty early on. You may want to import your white/black lists if you are moving from a different product. **What problems is SpamTitan Email Security solving and how is that benefiting you?** Spam filtering was costing us a lot of money, and then the vendor said we had to replace their appliance with a new one (about $3000 just for the appliance). SpamTitan costs much less per year, and we'll never have to replace an appliance again. We got SpamTitan's clustered solution, so we have a second VM running at our DR site, the two sync (or re-sync if there has been an outage), giving us load-balancing and fault-tolerance, and at a still significant savings. ### 14. I also like the single daily email to each user giving them the opportunity to review blocked messages and take action. Many other platforms swamp users with notifications every time something is blocked. This is very simple for us to setup and users to understand. **What do you dislike about SpamTitan Email Security?** The customization is still a little lacking, would like more options to be able to adjust notifications. Also, most of the documentation is for the appliance version, which has a slightly different interface and setup procedure from the cloud hosted version. That said, support is still great and was able to walk us through each setup. **What problems is SpamTitan Email Security solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are an MSP with clients of all sizes that desire managed spam protection. They need the ability to see what messages are blocked and whitelist if necessary, in a format that all of their users can understand. We appreciate the simple, clean interface that gives us the ability to quickly setup new clients, as well as quickly find and take action on messages that the client needs to find right away. The support has been great, as we are constantly swamped with duties and responsibilities of our own and do not have time to spend hours learning how to use a new platform or troubleshoot an issue. ### 15. The pricing is very reasonable and the tech support is usually quick to respond whenever we have questions. **What do you dislike about SpamTitan Email Security?** The user interface in the web portal is doesn't have that modern and sharp look lots of websites have these days. The text is smaller than on most websites and is hard for me to read sometimes. The design of the interface looks like websites that were designed before the responsive layout trend kicked in. **Recommendations to others considering SpamTitan Email Security:** There are many anti-spam software solutions out there, but from what I understand, the typical default filters that come standard with email accounts don't usually do the best job. If you receive tons of emails every day and want a more accurate email filter, then SpamTitan is a great way to go when you don't want a ton of fuss with setting things up. **What problems is SpamTitan Email Security solving and how is that benefiting you?** We've had fewer annoying spam emails and emails that contain malware and phishing messages. By having less clutter in our inboxes we're able to spend more time being productive with our actual work activities rather then sorting through and deleting emails. Spam Titan offers an in-house solution, which we LOVE as well as options for people who prefer cloud. In-House appliance has full support for ipv6 both sending and receiving. **What do you dislike about SpamTitan Email Security?** Licensing is per e-mail address so you can run into situations where one users with multiple addresses requires a few licenses. The offering is flexible and if you still want and trust an in-house solution, they offer that in addition to cloud. As a managed service provider we wanted our own in-house solution for spam filtering we could use our self and resell to customers. We didn't feel like paying some other company to do it for us in "the cloud". Spam Titan was the perfect fit. ### 19. It's relatively simple to get around and set it up, and runs in a very lightweight VMware appliance. For us personally as well the price point is quite cost effective vs other products on the market, and they are flexible in the pricing models offered. **What do you dislike about SpamTitan Email Security?** We do have some small gripes like with any software, some of these have been resolved over time - some still exist. One of my biggest pet issues is that the Quarantine reports can be set to a minimum of daily - some of our users would just like it a bit more frequent. The web interface itself is a bit aged as well compared to many modern interfaces, but it's functional and easy enough to get around - so it's not really a big deal. **What problems is SpamTitan Email Security solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use Spamtitan to add another layer of protection against all potential outside attackers of spam, phishing, malware, and viruses. With this product we keep our users far safer than with stock filtering of Office 365 or anything else I've used over my 10+ year career (and I've sampled quite a few products). We see a daily significant reduction of spam, malware and other attacks against our users from the email front - and for the small percentage of stuff that does get through - we have other layers to ensure the end user is as protected as possible. ### 20. Choose wisely. My biggest regret with using SpamTitan was to buy in to a 3-year deal to avail of a discount. That is only my own fault as they do not offer a refund if you decide to cancel the service. I used their cloud based spam-filter service so cannot comment on their non-cloud offerings. As a small MSP you will want to avoid this product which lacks end-user accessibility beyond very basic quarantine-report-control via hyperlinks. You will find yourself micro-managing end-user accounts endlessly. And avoid their outbound mail-relay completely – huge headaches will ensue. Their support can also leave you dangling for days as I guess they are just too busy. I ultimately took the hit and moved to another solution half-way through the three-year period; footing the bill myself to ensure my clients had a more reliable email delivery experience. I am no knocking the company who seem to have good spam-mail identification technologies. In the last year over 170k crap emails were stopped before reaching our mail servers. If I scanned every one of those emails manually with 1 minute scan time each. That's 118 DAYS worth of time spam titan has saved me. Their interface is to the point and not unnecessarily flashy. We use spam titan cloud and it is FAST. I can pull up a weeks worth of emails for all employees in 10 seconds and manually check if there was something blocked that shouldn't have been (rarely happens though). I can view suspicious emails without needing to download them first, I can create custom block lists by domain or email address. And I actually just found a digest feature that let's me send all employees a quarantine report allowing them to unblock things they need from their own email without needing me to stop, find the email, and white list it. Our plan has a set number of emails but unlimited domains so we have 4 companies using spam titan all under the same plan. I can add or remove companies on my own without messing with our cost or needing assistance from spam titan support. Lastly, spam titan support staff are AMAZING. it's ridiculous how helpful and friendly they are. The most recent example being that my email host started acting up and emails were vanishing. Spam titan support, as well as my account manager for spam titan looked into our delivery logs and informed me what they saw on their end. They then went out of their way helping me understand how to setup another companies product to work with their own when they didn't have to. I love these guys. There is no facility for GEO blocking (i.e. blocking email from specific countries), though I have been told that it is coming. I was given access to Pattern Filtering in an attempt to stop certain emails coming in. After multiple attempts and even getting SecureSoft / SpamTitan support involved, it still doesn't seem to work, or if it does, it is extremely random when it does actually block anything (I have over 130 domains I have manually blacklisted to stop them coming through). Keyword filtering doesn't appear to work. **Recommendations to others considering SpamTitan Email Security:** Don't go with the Cloud version unless you want very little control over the product. Most of the support is always exchanging e-mails with tutorials on how to do stuff and the tutorials are sometimes useful and sometimes not at all. Having said that, we have probably contacted the technical support 3 to 4 times in almost 4 years that we have using the product. The end users get a daily email to allow them to identify emails caught in their SPAM filter and decide how the application should handle them. Great features and functionality. Marked improvement on other products we have tried in the past. Easy to use interface, easy to set up and configure and then just leave it to do its thing. Easy to reject or accept suspicious emails to add to blacklist or whitelist. I like the way it sends a report so you can check quarantined emails just in case it got over zealous and removed a required email. It does a great job of stopping most spam and has a small number of false positives. It is also pretty easy to set up notifications on any blocked emails to ensure that proper capture is occurring. One side feature that I really like is using the web interface to see what emails have been allowed through. Using that information, when a client calls and tells us they sent an email that we didn't get, I can immediately look on SpamTitan to see if the email reached our servers at all. This allows me to very quickly determine if an email that never reached us was blocked on by our servers or prior to reaching us at all. **What do you dislike about SpamTitan Email Security?** If you change a filter in the web interface to return too many records, the site will sometimes hang.
