Luckily SolarWinds has videos available on steps to proceed and their tech support reps are very helpful too. **What problems is SolarWinds Security Event Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?** It would be helpful if SolarWinds LEM had Wizards built-in that could assist in adding new types of devices. At times, I've had to go with trial and error until SolarWinds LEM would actually start collecting data from a particular one-off node. ### 29. It would be nice if the filter building would be a little easier. We are a small department and it is hard to be an expert at everything. **Recommendations to others considering SolarWinds Security Event Manager:** It is very powerful and will give you a lot of info. It takes a lot to tune it so you won't get so many alerts that you won't be able to see the important ones. For me the, filter building for alerts is a little cumbersome. You should get some training to learn it. Splunk is a good product, but is based on size of logs--not number of devices monitored. This makes LEM attractive--although not as robust. And Solarwinds was great about demo'ing it and helping us in initial setup. **What problems is SolarWinds Security Event Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?** LEM allows us to monitor a variety of servers, from Windows and Linux, and view variances and anomalies in events. It's especially effective for excessive login attempts (AD, firewall). ### 31. It has done all of this and more **What do you dislike about SolarWinds Security Event Manager?** I could not ask for more from this vendor. Updates are clearly communicated. There are multiple platforms, including virtualized that are available. The LEM puts it all in one place and you can generate reports based on events, device type, platform, etc. It makes managing connectivity and resources easier. I also went through their user training and it was painless and the instructor was very helpful. **What do you dislike about SolarWinds Security Event Manager?** At first it's not intuitive unless you monitor devices for a living. I've been in IT over 10 years but until I started using LEM I'd never had the opportunity to use a similar tool. I was a little overwhelmed by the enormousness and volume of the items you can monitor for the different types of nodes/platforms/events, especially in our large organization. However, as soon as I was able to see how quickly I could find out information about our data center, it made the benefits immediately visible. **What problems is SolarWinds Security Event Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use many SolarWinds products, so this component simply allows us to monitor logs on any node we want. We avoid unnecessary browsing through devices to find logs that could be troublesome. ### 49.
