**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luis M. | IT Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 30, 2023

**What do you like best about Slax?**

As someone who values lightweight and portable operating systems, I was intrigued by Slax, a Linux distribution based on Slackware. After trying it out for a while, I have to say that I'm impressed with its performance and ease of use.

One of the things I appreciate about Slax is its small size and minimalistic design. It's perfect for running on older hardware or as a portable system for on-the-go computing. I also appreciate that it comes with a basic set of pre-installed applications, including a web browser and file manager.

While Slax may not have the same level of support or development resources as more mainstream Linux distributions, I find that it more than meets my needs as a simple and reliable operating system. Overall, I would recommend Slax to anyone looking for a lightweight and portable Linux distribution.

**What do you dislike about Slax?**

As someone who has used Slax, I have found that one potential downside is its limited software selection. While it comes with a basic set of pre-installed applications, users may need to manually install additional software packages to meet their needs. Additionally, since Slax is a niche distribution with a small user base, it may not have the same level of community support or development resources as more mainstream Linux distributions.

**What problems is Slax solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Slax is solving the problem of needing a lightweight and portable Linux distribution that can be easily run from a USB drive or other removable media. This benefits users who need to have a portable operating system for on-the-go computing or as a rescue system for repairing damaged installations of Linux or Windows. Slax's small size and minimalistic design make it a good option for running on older or less powerful hardware. Additionally, its ease of use and reliability can benefit users who are looking for a simple and straightforward operating system. Overall, Slax's focus on lightweight and portable computing can be beneficial for users who prioritize mobility and simplicity.

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mohammad F. | Problem Setter Intern , Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 02, 2023

**What do you like best about Slax?**

This is one of those OS which is made for old and low configuration hardware computers. It is fast and very much customisable. It comes with very basic task performing softwares.

**What do you dislike about Slax?**

This OS has very limited software support that makes the OS bored to use. Very much time is consumed to search the best fitted software. The developers should work in providing the software that makes the OS easy to use.

**What problems is Slax solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The old computer needed an OS that can run on the old hardware smoothly and I tested this OS and fund it to be very clean and smooth. But due to lack of software, I had to switch to a different Linux distro.

It allows me to personalize my operating system by adding or removing software and configurations. Also, it allows me to manage my files and work efficiently with tools such as a text editor, image viewer, and file manager. This customization ensures that my operating system works optimally.

**What do you dislike about Slax?**

It offers a lot of extensive customization options, but the default software repository has some limitations. You need to manually download and install some software to meet your specific needs, which is a bit time-consuming but allows for full customization and access to all necessary tools. Overall, it met all my expectations, and I am satisfied with using it.

**What do you like best about Slax?**

The most exciting thing is the user-interface and the overall weight of the userinterface as the OS itslef do not consume much resources of the PC also the most favourate part is the compact them and keeps the things in organised way.

**What do you dislike about Slax?**

For any OS to be succesful it all depends on the number of applications and tools supported and ease of adding new tools and so this is the where this Slax lacks behind and should have more pre - installed tools that can make it even better

Every Linux is open source and free to use so need not to pay for the same also if we talk about the supported application they give the best performance possible as OS itself do not need much resources of the computer or system being used .
