ShotPut Pro Reviews & Product Details

ShotPut Pro is a software utility for macOS designed to perform verified media offloads from camera cards or external drives to secure storage. It is a digital media offload and verification solution that helps users reliably copy, verify, and document media assets during production workflows. The application is widely used in professional video production, filmmaking, broadcast, and post-production environments where data integrity and traceability are essential. Its core function is to offload camera media such as SD cards, CFexpress cards, or SSDs to one or more destinations while verifying that the copied files are identical to the originals. Key capabilities include verified offloads using checksum validation, multi-destination copying for creating simultaneous backups, and detailed reporting options that generate PDF, TXT, or CSV logs for documentation. Users can apply custom folder and file naming templates through its token system, allowing for consistent and automated media organization. ShotPut Pro also provides visual tools such as thumbnail previews, transfer progress displays, and speed monitoring, giving operators clear feedback during offloads. These functions support workflows that prioritize reliability and repeatability on set or in post-production environments. ShotPut Pro runs on macOS 13 and later, supporting both Intel and Apple Silicon systems. It is licensed as a perpetual product with an optional update plan for continued feature and compatibility updates. The software is commonly used by DITs, camera assistants, and post-production teams to ensure footage is safely transferred, verified, and documented before editing or archiving, making it a core utility in professional media management pipelines.

"Industry standard for offloading and transferring media"

4.5/5

What do you like best about ShotPut Pro?

The best thing about ShotPut Pro is it is as simple or complex as you want it to be. I use it as a digital loader in the film industry for offloading camera footage, and I rely on this tool nearly everyday to ensure millions of dollars of shot footage is backed up properly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ShotPut Pro?

I haven’t found anything that I don’t like about ShotPut Pro as of yet. I’ve been using this program for years in its various versions along with other like-minded software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering ShotPut Pro:

Compare with other software to see what suits your needs best as a digital loader. I find that shotput fulfils my requirements, but I have used other programs in the past with varying amounts of success. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is ShotPut Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?

I no longer (nor should you) rely on the finder file transfer to transfer large amounts of data. ShotPut Pro does this, along with checksums to ensure no bytes are missed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Saves time and money"

5/5

What do you like best about ShotPut Pro?

ShotPut Pro is amazing. You can transfer data from SD cards to multiple hard drives at the same time. It creates a PDF that shows 4 key frames per video clip and does checksum verification to give you peace of mind. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ShotPut Pro?

We have only been using it for a couple of months, but so far it has been great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering ShotPut Pro:

Make sure you have a lot of data card readers if you want to transfer lots of cards at once. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is ShotPut Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?

ShotPut Pro speeds up data transfers by up to 50%. Takes steps out of the data backup process, freeing our data team up for other tasks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great Product for Fast Transfer"

4.5/5

What do you like best about ShotPut Pro?

I've enjoyed using ShotPut Pro to transfer my daily video deposition clips to my portable hard drive. As I can create different processes to transfer my videos. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ShotPut Pro?

I cannot stand the initial source interface window. The source window does not allow users to sort/select their source videos by date, size, or any other attribute. I have submitted a mock-up screen of what I believe would be better than what they have. Similar to the Finder window view. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering ShotPut Pro:

Give the source media window the ability to sort the selections by file type, size, date, etc. As an HUGE bonus feature, give users the ability to upload ONLY NEW video. (Do a file comparison of source media with the target destination; if the filename, size, type are equal, grey-out the selections.) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is ShotPut Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?

Speeding up the ingestion of lots of video clips to my target and backup drives simultaneously. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Works well but it’s slow."

2/5

What do you like best about ShotPut Pro?

Easy to set up different offloading presets. Decent reports. Standard in the TV industry for lower-budget projects. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ShotPut Pro?

Verification times are slow compared to other offloading software using the same checksum algorithms. Lots of little bugs in the software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
