"SME review: Searchstax and managed solr with Sitecore"
What do you like best about SearchStax?

Analytics and reporting have become more productive and accurate, contributing to increased revenue. Since switching to Searchstax, search-related issues have significantly decreased. The managed Solr product also stands out, with its monitoring, reporting, management, and support all being highly commendable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SearchStax?

It's not a complete dislike, but I believe it would be much better if there were a way to identify knowledge experts, such as through certifications, badges, MVP status, or a community list. This would create a win-win situation for businesses, customers, subject matter experts, and Searchstax alike. Additionally, holding public gatherings once a month or each quarter—such as expos, hackathons, or notification-based meetups—could help foster a more engaged community. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from James Levine of SearchStax

Thank you for sharing your positive experience with SearchStax and the recommended search keywords feature. We understand the importance of role-based authentications and will work on enhancing the Search Studio Portal accordingly.

"Love the support team! Just wish Drupal integration was clearer"
What do you like best about SearchStax?

The customer support is excellent—very proactive and helpful whenever I need assistance. The platform is powerful and integrates well with Drupal once you get used to it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SearchStax?

As a developer working on multiple Drupal sites, I find the terminology between Drupal and SearchStax a bit confusing at first. It would be great to have an introduction or guide explaining how Drupal indexes map to SearchStax profiles for new developers.

I also find it difficult to tell whether my Drupal commit has already synced with SearchStax. For example, when automatic indexing is enabled and I delete a node, the change is sent to SearchStax, but the numbers stay outdated for about five minutes. It would be helpful if there were a message in Drupal indicating that the update was committed but not yet reflected in SearchStax.

Another issue I’ve experienced involves bugs that only happen for users who manage multiple clients under the same account. I think the Drupal module could benefit from additional testing for accounts like this.

The documentation is good, but it would be even better if there were video tutorials—especially for the setup process and for implementing the UI Kit.

Finally, I’d love to see a feature that allows cloning configurations or creating a development environment from production, as well as a clearer way to monitor quota usage. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Rock-Solid Reliability for Enterprise Search Needs"
What do you like best about SearchStax?

Reliability is crucial for us. As a FTSE100 retail company operating across the UK and Europe, we depend significantly on search functionality. SearchStax Solr solutions have consistently remained online and accessible, which has made them a dependable partner within the Howdens ecosystem. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SearchStax?

The only challenge I've encountered is not having the opportunity to meet the SearchStax team in person, since they are located in the US. However, even with their international location, their support has been outstanding and consistently available, regardless of the time difference between the UK and the US. "Robust Tool with a Steep Learning Curve"
What do you like best about SearchStax?

I like that you can integrate SearchStax on your website once and then do the real fine tuning through the Dashboard. Karan was able to hop on quickly and help us resolve an issue that we had on launch day. It was nice to have a simulation of our search results built into the dashboard as well for troubleshooting. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SearchStax?

The code library and documentation is hard to follow, especially if you're on a quick timeline. I'd love to see more accessibility options built into the code and examples along with more clarity on what each component can do and how you can mix and match. Short form videos might be helpful or more hands on dev support. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Dawn Farhi of SearchStax

Thank you for very much for the feedback! We are so happy we were able to help you on the day of your launch.

Your feedback regarding the accessibility and documentation is really valuable as we are always looking to improve and evolve our documentation and the user experience - so this is great feedback we can incorporate into our updates.

"Seamless Setup but Needs Better High-Volume Stability"
What do you like best about SearchStax?

I appreciate the seamless transition we experienced while setting up SearchStax. Cloning over our collections and repointing our custom application to the provided endpoints was straightforward and worked seamlessly, saving us time and effort. The primary advantage is outsourcing the administration of our Solr cluster, which alleviates the burden of managing something that isn’t our core competency. Additionally, the support from SearchStax has been invaluable. Whenever we face challenges with our collections or cluster, knowing we can reach out to experts who are more knowledgeable than us provides peace of mind and ensures smooth operations. This external expertise greatly supports our team, allowing us to focus on our main business objectives. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SearchStax?

I am challenged by SearchStax's performance at high volumes, where our collection often becomes unstable. We struggled for a couple of years to maintain stability in the cluster during our highest usage, which was a significant issue. Additionally, there was a lack of expertise on our part, which made it difficult to manage those high-volume situations effectively. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Searchstax Surpassed My Expectations - A Developer’s Take"
What do you like best about SearchStax?

As we approach the one-year milestone of our Searchstax implementation, we've had time to reflect on just how transformative the platform has been - not just in terms of enhancing search, but in how it’s empowered our broader digital strategy. What started as a quest for better relevance and control over search results has evolved into something much more dynamic. The most powerful part of Searchstax is that search isn’t static - it’s fluid. And that fluidity has enabled us to push the boundaries of what’s possible.

One of the standout strengths of the platform has been its robust API capabilities. We’ve been able to integrate Searchstax deeply into our ecosystem, going far beyond the standard out-of-the-box implementation. In fact, one of our most exciting innovations this year has been incorporating Searchstax directly into our AI-powered chatbot experience. Through the API, we’ve enabled the bot to pull live search results, refining context based on user input, and provide conversational responses that feel genuinely useful - all driven by real-time, query-aware search intelligence.

The Searchstax APIs have been remarkably flexible and developer-friendly, allowing us to query the index, apply custom filters, and handle facets dynamically within the chatbot framework. But beyond the technical wins, what we’ve really embraced is the mindset shift. With Searchstax, we’re not limited to periodic search updates - we’re living in a continuous improvement loop. As our content evolves, as user behavior shifts, and as our chatbot grows smarter, we’re able to fine-tune the underlying search mechanics quickly and confidently. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SearchStax?

One area that initially posed some friction was the user interface. In earlier versions, the GUI felt a bit clunky and less intuitive for non-technical users, which sometimes slowed down configuration and onboarding. However, to Searchstax’s credit, the platform has since undergone a noticeable transformation. The new UI is far more streamlined, responsive, and user-friendly - a reflection of their clear investment in product usability.

Searchstax has been very responsive to feedback, especially the critical kind. Any time we've raised concerns, whether it was about usability, feature limitations, or performance questions, their team has been quick to engage, listen, and act. In some cases, we've even seen fixes or improvements rolled out within hours or days of our input. That kind of agility and willingness to evolve based on real user experiences speaks volumes about their commitment to the platform - and to their customers. "SearchStax is the best hosted Solr option for Drupal & Acquia"
What do you like best about SearchStax?

SearchStax has been a key partner in implementing search on our Acquia site. The easy of use allowed us to quickly swap out our old Solr provider for their implementation. This allowed us to easily replace what we had to start without having to re-engineer what we had for the experience. We were then able to take our time and by using their starter kits we were able to engineer a new decoupled search experience that was light years ahead of what we had before and we were able to see dramatic improvements. Our click-thru-rate increased over 30% and the number of folks that were using the search almost doubled, increasing our overall time on page. The team is easy to work with, the support is great, it's been a great partnership. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SearchStax?

We haven't found any yet, the typical spots where companies would have issues don't really show here. Support is great, resources are great, no issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"SearchStax helps you deliver the right search experience on your website"
What do you like best about SearchStax?

SearchStax Site Search stands out for its user-friendly design. The intuitive interface makes it easy for non-technical users, digital marketers, and agencies to navigate and manage. It’s especially valuable during time-sensitive events or campaigns, allowing marketing teams to quickly implement website changes without lengthy development cycles. The platform strikes an excellent balance, offering the right level of flexibility for both developers and non-developers alike. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SearchStax?

Nothing specific since every product evolves as we provide feedback. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Good solr sotuion for our Sitecore stack with excellent support"
What do you like best about SearchStax?

The ease of setup (completely out of our hands - which is a relieve) and seamless integration with our sitecore platform has been a time saver for us. Pricing is fair. Account management team is flexible and responsive and works with us to get the solution we require/need. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SearchStax?

While its not a major issue, i would appriciate service management calls to discuss (rare) outages or potentials service improvements. This would help ensure we're always align and get proactive support when needed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"SearchStax Site Search & Managed Search"
What do you like best about SearchStax?

What I like best about SearchStax is that it makes search management straightforward. Our IT team no longer has to maintain Solr, and my team can adjust the search experience without relying on developers. We can update results, run promotions, and review search analytics quickly, which helps us respond to user needs more efficiently. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SearchStax?

There’s a bit of a learning curve in figuring out how different tweaks affect the search results, but once you get familiar with it, the process becomes much smoother. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
