What do you like best about ScalaHosting?

The security. I have a website being hosted on a dedicated server that is political and there are thousands trying to hack into it on a regular basis. I used another hosting service for years, but could not rely on their people to respond in a timely manner to problems and eventually we were hacked. When I switched to ScalaHosting 4 years ago, all of those issues stopped immediately. I mean, they're still trying to hack, but always failing thanks in large part to ScalaHosting. What do you dislike about ScalaHosting?

Nothing. At first I was a little concerned about using their customized SPanel, rather than the CPanel we were accustomed to, but the SPanel turned out to be very easy to work with. What do you like best about ScalaHosting?

I use two ScalaHosting VPS servers, one for WordPress (WooCommerce + main website) and one for a Moodle LMS. What I like most is that the VPS setup is straightforward even if you are not a sysadmin, and the performance is stable for both sites. What do you dislike about ScalaHosting?

Overall I am very satisfied, but there are a couple of things that could be better. The main issue for me was with Softaculous when I wanted to install the latest Moodle 5.x. The updates for Moodle were delayed and the installation process was not very smooth in the beginning, so I had to spend extra time to make it work properly. Once everything was configured, the server runs fine, but the initial setup could definitely be easier and faster. Also, the entry-level backup option includes only one backup, so if you manage multiple projects you quickly need to pay for more. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about ScalaHosting?

I recently migrated a website from GoDaddy to a ScalaHosting VPS, and the performance jump has been immediately noticeable. I was looking for raw speed, and so far, the loading times are excellent.

I originally considered installing aaPanel to keep things lightweight, but I decided to give Scala's SPanel a try since it came free with the VPS. I’m glad I did - it strikes a perfect balance. It’s light on resources like aaPanel, but it comes pre-configured with everything I actually need (backups, security, and a WordPress manager) without me having to tinker with the server via command line.

The migration process was smooth, and having a managed panel that doesn't cost extra (like cPanel does now) saved me both money and setup time. If you are stuck on a slow shared host like GoDaddy, this is a solid upgrade. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I appreciate that ScalaHosting offers premium LiteSpeed servers at an excellent cost compared to other providers, while keeping SPanel pricing stable—unlike cPanel, which keeps increasing prices every year without delivering real new features.

What do you dislike about ScalaHosting?

I’m not satisfied with the high renewal prices, which are significantly higher than the initial cost. It’s also inconvenient that there are no 24-month plans—you’re forced to choose either 12 or 36 months, which feels unusual and limiting.

Support tickets can also be a bit complicated. Although the team is very fast, sometimes it feels like the focus is on closing the ticket quickly rather than diving deeply into the issue. Tickets often get passed between multiple support agents, and I end up repeating the same steps several times until the problem is fully resolved.

Another concern is that support sometimes asks for login credentials to important platforms directly inside the ticket. There doesn’t seem to be a secure credential-sharing method, which makes me uncomfortable knowing that sensitive passwords may be visible to multiple agents and stored in their system. Having a VPS makes us as non-technical people over 60 feel much safer in that we have an exclusive IP address and are less likely to be classed as spammers or otherwise untrustworthy because of the actions of others sharing our IP address. As non-technical people we opted for managed hosting and have found Scala's support to be absolutely brilliant. Even the most stupid questions are answered politely and quickly, 24/7.
