What I dislike about SAP Digital Manufacturing is that it can be complex and effort-intensive to implement, especially for companies without prior SAP MES experience. It’s a powerful solution, but to avoid overcomplication it really depends on strong process design, clean master data, and access to skilled SAP resources.

Another drawback is the limited out-of-the-box flexibility when you have very specific shop-floor requirements. In those cases, custom behaviors often require extensions on SAP BTP, which adds technical effort and increases dependency on specialized skills.

Cost is also a concern. Between licensing, BTP usage, implementation services, and ongoing support, expenses can add up quickly, making SAP DM a significant investment.
