If you want more than vanilla, they say anyone can do it, but I strongly recommend having a good developer. **What problems is Rock RMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** Rock is incredibly scalable. The ability to run multiple front ends with a single database makes it possible for Rock to support small churches while being able to scale to support even the largest churches. ### 5. If you can dream it, Rock can do it. Having the entire Rock community as your support within Rocket Chat is unheard of support and value. There's so many things we've been able to accomplish with Rock that were not possible, or even on the roadmap of features, for other ChMS. **What do you dislike about Rock RMS?** Some of the customizations do require some technical know-how and basic programming skills, which can be hard to acquire for some churches. However, access to the entire Rock community through Rocket Chat means you can still accomplish some of the more technical things. **Recommendations to others considering Rock RMS:** Be quick to jump into the community. It's honestly incredible the amount of support you can get from other Rock users, which are just other churches looking to help others. **What problems is Rock RMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use Rock for practically everything. Registrations, capital campaigns, connection pathways for people taking next steps, groups, etc. It really does free up staff to focus more on people since Rock is now a valuable tool in their kit instead of a technology hurdle. ### 6. It's modules are flexible and easy to build on. **What do you dislike about Rock RMS?** If you don't have a developer on staff or aren't willing to retain a company (there are now several out there that work with Rock), then it'll be a difficult platform. Think of it like Wordpress for church management. **Recommendations to others considering Rock RMS:** Do your research and find other churches using it similarly. You'll need to determine if what you're wanting has already been done (and can thus be copied) or if you'll need to hire a company to help you. This will minimize the sticker shock or large projects and help you determine timelines. You can do pretty much anything you dream up on Rock, but it'll cost you if you don't have a developer in-house. **What problems is Rock RMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** We've used Rock to completely run our small group application, sign ups, and listings. We've then integrated our Rock records into our website (not on Rock) to display those listings. In addition to groups, we are beta testing their volunteer signs up and will eventually move that onto Rock. We also moved from mailchimp to their newsletters/communications module. ### 7. We use it to do sign-ups and registrations of events, we use it as a complete database of people and statistics for our organization, we use it to organize different groups and teams and from those we are able to easily and quickly communicate with those people. **What do you dislike about Rock RMS?** It can be frustrating to figure out the navigation of Rock RMS at first, but once you truly begin to understand the inner workings of Rock it will change your mind. A good piece of advice that we learned was to have an all inclusive training on every feature over the course of a few days. **What problems is Rock RMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** It has essentially been the optimal database for our organization. We have a better and more organized way to keep track of the who, what, when, and how of every person that enters into our doors. Along with that, it has been incredibly helpful in groups and teams communication. ### 8. It is a clear home page that allows us to update the staff on current events. The tabs on the side can be easily labeled and navigate. I like how we can fade the font on past events so users can more easily find current events/reports. **What do you dislike about Rock RMS?** I do not like how difficult it has been for me to alphabetize reports. I have needed to print out reports in alphabetical order and on several occasions had difficulty. The report will start alphabetical and about halfway through not be alphabetical. **Recommendations to others considering Rock RMS:** I would recommend organizations that want to put all people into one database to use Rock. You can put people into different categories and find many analytics of the people. The data you can find through Rock has been extremely helpful for our organization. **What problems is Rock RMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** There are many benefits our church has experienced with using Rock. We are able to have a data system that organizes all people in our church. I frequently use Rock for event registration. I can send registration forms through Rock to many people. I can also see who registered and their answers to the form. Rock also allows us to make reports of the people in the data system. We can organize people into groups like males in their 30's or females under 20. This allows us to contact people based on events they may be interested in. ### 9. It’s fine. I’ve noticed that our team is slow to process the new updates to our team, so I’m sure that’s most of it. **Recommendations to others considering Rock RMS:** It’s a good church software. I’ve had limited problems besides just trying to figure it out. **What problems is Rock RMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are able to contact new attendees because of the software. It helps me keep all the info I need in one place. We are able to make modifications to fit our church's needs. **What do you dislike about Rock RMS?** Rock is a great tool, but it still has a bit of developing needed to make it the one-size-fits-all tool that churches need. Design wise, it would also be more aesthetically pleasing. **Recommendations to others considering Rock RMS:** Rock is a great system if you want to customize it and build it out to what you need. It also is constantly improving and getting better. **What problems is Rock RMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** Rock is a great place for us to house and reference our entire database of our attendees (over 60,000) and get insights on our attendance, collect prayer requests, send communications (email and text), and much more. We are also able to keep all of the data we have on a person in one place. ### 12. I'd love to be able to just type in a report I'm looking for and be taken directly to it, instead of sifting through pages to heat to it. Also, I'd love to see a history of editors on everything. **What problems is Rock RMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** Workflows have been made so much easier. ### 13. I coordinate lots of events for our community life team on our church staff. I also love RockJet, the project management feature within Rock. I love that it’s free for churches to use too. **What do you dislike about Rock RMS?** I would like to see conditional logic in future updates. The lack of that has caused the biggest issues i have run into. **Recommendations to others considering Rock RMS:** Have at least one staff member devoted to Rock entirely (depending on the size of your church). **What problems is Rock RMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** I love being able to pull large amounts of data for event planning and group communication through Rock. ### 14. The profiles for each individual/family are really great and the information on them can be customized to fit our church's needs. Not every church is the same, so it's really helpful to be able to customize this information. This software also has great reporting options. The check-in system is great, and the website component is easy to use as well. There's also a lot of great, helpful documentation available online to help you figure out how to use everything. **What do you dislike about Rock RMS?** In order to do a lot of the customization that we require and to set up our features, we have to work with a programmer. Set up can be complicated for anyone new to the software and unfamiliar with coding. **What problems is Rock RMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** Using Rock makes the administrative side of leading a church simple and easy. The data management aspect of running a church is not well known, but the people who created this software really understand what churches need. We've been able to track individuals' next steps, plug them into groups, get them signed up for camp, and more. It's awesome. ### 15. I also LOVE that it is mobile friendly so if I'm away from my computer I can hop on my phone or tablet and get the info or work done that I need. It also seems to be more user friendly than our old software and we've received positive feedback since we've switched. **What do you dislike about Rock RMS?** Some of the updates change things that we've set into place and we have to go back and change them back. I've learned to download the release notes & technical notes and highlight what would affect us so we know what we need to switch back after the updates. **Recommendations to others considering Rock RMS:** They have a great community of support from other users and they do a wonderful job helping you troubleshoot any problems. **What problems is Rock RMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are doing on-line registrations and that has been a huge help because now we don't have to keep track of paper forms, checks, or cash. We also are having great luck with the communication feature and being able to send e-mails or texts to certain groups of people all at the same time, yet make the e-mails feel personal. ### 16. I also am a huge fan of the community and the slack channel for help when needed. **What do you dislike about Rock RMS?** I’ve ran into a few issues and no one was able to help resolve the problem. Also there’s some things I’d think would be natural for the software to do but it doesn’t. However, there is usually work around and using lava or sql I’ve been able to solve most of those issues. **What problems is Rock RMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** We’ve been able to link people together and show their relationships. It’s helped us track attendance and the online registration tools have been a huge help and time saver. It’s also helped us secure our child checkin process. ### 17. The database architecture allows us to get almost any type of data you could want into, and out of Rock ease. We've been able to customize groups, contributions, event registration, and communications tools to meet our needs. The best part of Rock is it's open source and it's community supported. Instead of being owned by a venture capital firm, Rock's development is spearheaded by a non-profit and support is provided through the community and an ecosystem of vendors. So you can hire (and fire) your support without leaving Rock! Even without a support vendor we're able to rely on the community to get questions answered on the forums or in the Slack. The other churches using Rock are what make the product truly shine. Best practices and product features aren't dictated by a vendor from on high... they're from people actually doing ministry and working with Rock every day. **What do you dislike about Rock RMS?** Getting data from our old church management software vendor was a pain; and it made migration and training difficult. (Since we moved to Rock they've improved tools to help get data from other ChMS systems!) **Recommendations to others considering Rock RMS:** Dive into the community to get the most out of Rock! If you've got questions the ask Rock section on rockrms.com and the slack community are an incredible help. Anytime I've had a question I'm able to get answers from the community almost immediately. **What problems is Rock RMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** We moved to Rock to us solve problems with Children's ministry checkin. Without Rock's extensive flexibility in checkin with room balancing and configuration we wouldn't have been able to utilize our facilities to their full effect. ### 18. With the right person on your team, you can get Rock to do absolutely anything you would like a software like this to do. It covers contribution management, has a built in email/text service, offers child check-in, and much more. Would you like a badge on a person's profile clearly indicating that they are in a small group? No problem. How about a series of automated emails to someone new to your ministry? Done. It really is quite impressive. **What do you dislike about Rock RMS?** While Rock offers many standard features out of the box, trying to set up some of the custom features is an exercise in madness if you don't have someone on staff with some programming skills. A lot of the advanced features (custom badges, intricate workflows, etc) require a lot of work on the front-end. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time before launch to make sure everything is set up correctly. Also, it Rock needs to be hosted somewhere. So you'll either need a server to self-host, or you'll have to hire a company to host it for you. **Recommendations to others considering Rock RMS:** It might be a good idea to contact a company like RMR Development to set things up for your ministry. We did not hire them but had good conversations with them and weren't upset with their fees. We simply chose to have our tech guy give it a shot instead. But looking back, it required a lot of time from him to get it going. **What problems is Rock RMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** Rock has allowed us to pull all of our information into one location. It's our member directory, our contribution manager, our primary communication tool, our check-in and attendance tool, and much more. Many of our everyday questions of who, what, when, and where are all answered the same way: "Look in Rock." ### 19. The ability to have all of the required ministry tools in one place is priceless. I also love how they keep adding new features and have a simple update/upgrade feature that doesn't require downloading or uploading new files, they are handled via the Rock Update service a "one-click" update. **What do you dislike about Rock RMS?** So far I have not been able to find anything I don't like.
