Referent Reviews & Product Details

Referent is AI-native legal practice management software for solo and small law firms. It brings client intake, matter management, documents, deadlines, time tracking, billing, and day-to-day firm operations into one workspace. Unlike traditional law firm management software that primarily stores information and waits for users to act on it, Referent is designed as a system of action. Specialized AI agents handle routine operational work in the background while the lawyer stays in control of client-facing decisions. Referent can turn a connected inbox into a reviewable caseload by identifying clients, matters, emails, and documents and preparing them for the lawyer to review. Once a matter is active, relevant communications, documents, tasks, deadlines, and time entries stay connected in one place. Matter-aware scheduling helps firms track court dates and deadlines, while built-in time tracking captures billable and non-billable work and supports invoice preparation. AI agents work with the context of each matter to help prepare drafts, organize information, surface follow-ups, and reduce repetitive administrative work. Lawyers can also search across firm information and interact with the system using AI and voice-based workflows. Referent is built around lawyer oversight rather than full autopilot. Client-facing actions are prepared for review and approval, allowing firms to automate routine work without giving up professional control. The platform is designed to work with tools law firms already use, including email and Google Calendar, while keeping clients, matters, documents, scheduling, and billing connected. Referent combines legal practice management, matter management, client intake, document management, time tracking, legal billing, and AI agents for law firms in a single AI-native workspace. The goal is simple: reduce the operational work that pulls lawyers away from clients and legal work, without forcing a firm to rebuild the way it practices.
