Autodesk recap has a friendly user interface. It is very easy to navigate through point clouds. The point clouds are clearly visible as compared to when loaded in Revit. The point clouds are large in size but still recap gives a smooth experience. The point clouds come in various extensions such as .pts, .las, etc formats, these formats can be indexed using recap and can be converted into .rcp format very easily. This rcp file can be used in revit.

Point cloud files come in various extensions such as - .pts, .las, etc. Recap helps to convert these files into .rcp extension files which can be integrated with Revit software. These point clouds can be used for modelling in Revit. The point clouds are very heavy imsize but with the help of Recap one can easily navigate.

**What do you dislike about Recap?**

The point cloud takes time to load but else everything is fine. It uses a lots of ram, hence, the computer lacks a little bit.

**Recommendations to others considering Recap:**

It is a good software for people working on scan to BIM projects.

**What problems is Recap solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it for converting LAS and PTS files to RCP files so that I can use the point cloud in Revit for modelling.

The end result of the project, that you could stitch bunch of images and georeference them taken from a drone while working alongside recap photo.
Work with point cloud files, filter data and allows you to make selections and work with want you want to.Also, could coordinate the other autodesk products which is very helpful

**What do you dislike about Recap?**

not much of a negative trait but having to wait while recap photo stitches your images.
Also the limitation when working with more than 1000 aerial images. Working on large sites would have more than 1000 pictures

**Recommendations to others considering Recap:**

Better Software in the Market

**What problems is Recap solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Use recap end result and use the output with infra works

  ### 17. Autodesk ReCap

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aaron J. | BIM Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2018

**What do you like best about Recap?**

Autodesk ReCap is an excellent program for working with point cloud data. It can register together point cloud files into a single file that can be used in other AutoCAD programs. You can also edit the point clouds to remove unnecessary data or isolate data for exports. It is very easy to use and does not take very long to learn.

**What do you dislike about Recap?**

It would be good if it could open different forms of files. We currently use a Trimble scanner and have to use the Trimble software for registration. It would be nice if we could use the ReCap program as well to register some of these files as well.

**Recommendations to others considering Recap:**

Give it a try. It has a lot of great additional functions and Autodesk is continuing to develop the program.

**What problems is Recap solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ReCap works great for cleaning up point cloud files. We use it for that purpose as well as exporting the file to an .RCS file to work in our Revit models.

the user interface is so so. kind of hard to get the hang of everything compared to other systems. after working with it for awhile i was able to understand how to use it.

**Recommendations to others considering Recap:**

Definately worth! makes things easier! worth a try need a little time learning but everything works out great!

**What problems is Recap solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My main issue was saving files different formats and Recap helped all the way! After you get the hang of Recap it works wonders and makes working a lot easier! everyone should use this system! this systems make it really easy working with 2d and 3d files.

  ### 19. Lacking some basic features, but works well for simple pointcloud edits

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 08, 2019

**What do you like best about Recap?**

Recap works well with large point clouds and a lot of data. It does a good job of of allowing users to view and edit point clouds and then save them in a format for other uses.

**What do you dislike about Recap?**

I don’t necessarily like the user interface. It seems difficult for new users to pick up. Also many tools get hidden making things slower to use across the board. There are also some features lacking for registration and adjustment of loaded point clouds.

**What problems is Recap solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using recap to load in captured point cloud data, adjust it and clean it up and then save it for use in Revit to create current conditions.

  ### 20. Autodesk can do so much better

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 27, 2018

**What do you like best about Recap?**

I think Recap is headed in the right direction but is still in the beginning stages. For example, you can create a mesh out of a point cloud for only for a very small area- so it's basically useless.

**What do you dislike about Recap?**

We mainly use this product to convert .e57 files to .rcs files.

**Recommendations to others considering Recap:**

You must use another tool on conjunction.

**What problems is Recap solving and how is that benefiting you?**

By converting the file type, you are able to view the point cloud in Navisworks.

  ### 21. Easy to set up for response and data collection

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Animation | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2019

**What do you like best about Recap?**

Recap helped a company I was contracted out to scale up in terms of data collection. The best feature is the interface alongside it's use has a great array of tooling available and let's it's users know it's usability is a priority.

**What do you dislike about Recap?**

Their customer service isn't very helpful and won't distinctly reach out to you unless you have a core problem with the software, which is standard for applications of these nature but a disappointment nonetheless.

**What problems is Recap solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Scalability, the use of data collection with other 3rd party apps in the interim but with time.may have this functional ilty on it's own

  ### 22. Recap Review

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 07, 2018

**What do you like best about Recap?**

Recap is exceedingly simple. This makes it very easy for virtually anyone to pickup, use and navigate and markup point clouds.

**What do you dislike about Recap?**

Recap is exceedingly simple! The amount of functionality and data processing compared to competitors is majorly lacking. I do not like using it.

**What problems is Recap solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using it as a go between other point cloud software and Revit. Unfortunately for us, Revit only accepts RCP files for point clouds.

  ### 23. great tool to use for as builts

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 10, 2018

**What do you like best about Recap?**

I like the fact that they provide full quality as built images and walkthroughs. also like the fact that you could navigate easily and pretty easy to detect locations.

**What do you dislike about Recap?**

The one thing I dislike about the software is that they are lacking in terms of accuracy of dimensions. The software is to bring up existing areas and speculate the dimensions by the ruler feature. Everytime I try to dimension an object, it brings me a different dimension.

**Recommendations to others considering Recap:**

great program to use for as builts. somtimes little slow, and harder to dimension but still great quality

**What problems is Recap solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The firm is doing a huge project as builts and we cannot document all the areas without this product. We would possibly have to go and measure or photograph everything without this program.

  ### 24. Great for Registration

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civil Engineering | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 11, 2019

**What do you like best about Recap?**

ReCap Pro is included in the aec collection so there is no additional cost. In addition it is the standard for point cloud registration. It offers integration to the other design applications autodesk sells.

**What do you dislike about Recap?**

There really isnt much to dislike about ReCap. The biggest things are external like mobile applications for viewing and the fact that they removed functionality from Civil 3D so you have to use ReCap.

**What problems is Recap solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Drone workflow
