Realflow can do a lot of different effects like morphing your logo into liquids, creating oceans, rivers and waterfalls. It can simulate props, or geometry for collisions. What I found most useful in RealFlow are features that fracture geometry or destruction effects. RealFlow is a water or liquid simulations app, but with this software you can do dynamic simulations with rigid bodies not just water particles. So a bridge can crumble and fall in the water. Not only that but the fragments can float in the water. You can do large and small liquid simulations such as a glass of water pouring into a cup but you can take it further and have the glass shattered with a bullet and the water splay everywhere while interacting with the shards. Realflow can handle soft body as well as rigidbody, so bending metal is possible.
After simulating multiple interaction, the solution can be exported via geometry caching to other 3D apps for rendering with programs like Maya, ElectricImage or C4D. This is very useful because even gaseous particle effects in RealFlow, can be exported as dust or smoke. The workflow is brilliant because RealFlow takes in account UVs when exporting.
RealFlow has been used in broadcasts for cereals in milk, viscous liquids like pouring syrup or melted chocolate. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The learning curve is a little steep and the terminology is a little foreign, but once you get use to the workflow it’s starts to become intuitive.
With 3D beefy computer specs are always preferable. However, RealFlow’s simulator has adjustable resolutions. Now it only gets slow with really viscous liquids like syrups or chocolat,e which is to be expected. There are inintegratedealFlow plugins that seat RealFlow directly in your main app a plugin for C4D or Maya with RealFlow's SD geometry cache format as well as Alembic.
