## Houdini Reviews
 ### 1. Powerful VFX but with a Steep Learning Curve

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Akriti S. | Co-Founder, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

I absolutely love Houdini for its unmatched capabilities in VFX and procedural workflows. I've been using it extensively for my studio projects, creating incredible graphics and high-end simulations. What stands out most about Houdini is its extremely powerful nature, especially once I got the hang of its basic workflow. The physics simulations, like fluids, smoke, fire, destruction, and particle effects, are absolutely unmatched compared to other applications. It's impressive for someone like me who started as a beginner but quickly saw the potential in the powerful features Houdini offers.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

The node-based system in Houdini can be a huge problem. It's extremely overwhelming at first and requires a significant technical mindset to use effectively. It takes time to think procedurally, and understanding the entire workflow is necessary before you can create something really creative. Additionally, the initial setup of Houdini is extremely difficult and took me a long time to understand.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Houdini solves my physics simulations challenges with unmatched accuracy in fluids, smoke, fire, and destruction effects, delivering incredible results I haven't seen elsewhere.

 ### 2. Powerful Tool with High Learning Curve

**Reviewed by:** Greg S. | Senior Lecturer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

What I like most about Houdini is the fact that you can really get down to the code level of developing these simulations. It's a very powerful piece of software.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

There's a very high learning curve. I have been teaching myself this piece of software for over a week and a half now. And I feel like I'm just now starting to understand the basic functionality, but it's taking a very long time.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Houdini for high-resolution inputs and outputs, especially with fluids, smoke, and pyro, which is really beneficial for my projects.

 ### 3. The best you can use nowdays

 ### 4. See 3D Differently!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shane O. | Senior 3D Lighting & Motion Graphics Artist at Amazon, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 25, 2023

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

I love Houdini as a highly technical and node-based way of viewing 3D and FX creation. The software helps me think of 3D differently with its parametric workflows and its huge gambit of tools. It makes complicated tasks in other 3D programs much more efficient.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

I think Houdini can have a pretty significant learning curve. I think there's lots of things that could be streamlined/warned to the user when things are set up wrong to prevent user error for learners.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Houdini creatively makes work more efficient and technichal at the same time. I can do more complex tasks with fine control using VEX code and my own custom parameters.

 ### 5. Always on Top Priority for Designers!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kanika M. | Business Development Executive, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 16, 2023

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

When it comes to 3D Animation, the one-stop solution is Houdini. I came across this beautiful bit late. But it has dramatically impacted my profile since I added it to my portfolio. Best Rendering, Easy to use and efficient when it comes to lengthy designs.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

There is nothing to dislike about Houdini, as I've been using it for a while now. Now, it's convenient for me. The best part is that every update of Houdini solves more significant problems for every designer. So, it's user-friendly.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In the older versions of Houdini, working on it for long hours is a bit difficult. But the regular updates are much better than the last version, which is very effective. Rendering complex designs now makes achieving a good output level easy. And 3D Modeling works exceptionally well.

Houdini works well with other 3D software. It has helped the team work together and make better work flow processes that they are able to follow to completion.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

There are some feature requests we have asked for and take some time to get a response. The community is also struggling with similar issues as we are and unable to assist.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are able to render our models much faster with Houdini. It was a tool that has helped fill in our needs for our architects who are putting together the software to make our product technologically advanced.

 ### 8. Best in the industry for FX Simulations

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Priyanuj D. | Senior Learning Content Producer, E-Learning, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 25, 2023

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

The ease of using the tool. Most of the nodes are self explanatory and is sorted very efficiently. Also, the node based interface helps in reducing issues with the project you're working on as we can easily get back to the roots to get something changed at a later time.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

The cost of the tool really restricts you to work indivually with the full potential of the software. Even though we have different versons for individual users, but it still is very high.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I worked with the toll to create complex RBD, Fluid and Pyro simulations. It really handles the load and works on most of the systems which makes it a versatile software to be working on.

 ### 9. Enchanting Design of Houdini

First of all, it's free. Though it's free, it doesn't mean its anyway lesser than other softwares. It's a booming 3d software.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

There is nothing so far I don't like about this software.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can make 3d scenes, animations, character animation and modeling with this software.

 ### 11. Power in own hands

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Akash M. | Colorist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 22, 2022

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

The possibility of creating any type of Fx from scratch. It's mind-blowing how much the software can offer. The biggest advantage is the network system which offers an organized and multitude of combination to even go beyond your imagination.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

Many combination are incorporated deep inside the nodes which can be brought to the forefront. It iwll reduce the hastle that the user goes through while creating desired output.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves the biggest problem of creating real world, physics based FX. You can literally create anything you want and alter it as per your design. And their support is amazing.

 ### 12. Houdini is a great software but a bit complicated and hard to learn.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Garvit G. | 3D Artist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2022

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

The ability to create and handle simulations with ease. Also, the procedural workflow of Houdini is unmatched compared to any other software.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

In the beginning, it looks very overwhelming and complicated since it is purely node-based. They can add some interface elements to make it more accessible for beginners.

**Recommendations to others considering Houdini:**

Houdini could be very overwhelming at first but if you learn it, it is very much fun. A must-try for anyone in the CG industry.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mostly we used it for simulation but sometimes we use it for some procedural modeling as well.

 ### 13. Houdini is master of all

**Reviewed by:** arbaz m. | FX TD, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 20, 2021

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

mostly the pipeline of Houdini and the best part of itself tool which is very helpful and time-saving.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

basically, there is nothing to dislike but in my opinion, the simulation must be faster.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps me in making procedural workflow and modeling. which is very good and I think this is the best part of it.

 ### 14. Houdini for Maya Character Animators

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alonzo V. | VFX Producer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 10, 2021

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

Houdini is an industry standard software for fracturing, destruction effects, and dynamics. Fracturing is very robust. Rigid Body Dynamics (RBD) is also very powerful for objects collisions. The thing about Houdini is it's more technical than most artist, animator and motion graphics programs (dare I say Maya and C4D). So it can do a lot more than you wish other programs could. However, that's a two-edged sword that has its pros and cons. On one hand, Houdini can do what you have been dreaming of, and on the other hand, it can be complex to figure out how to do. Mainly, it's all node-based, so at first, it seems unfriendly or even daunting.
I am a Maya character artist and use Zbrush. So there's no Zbrush sculpt interface, and once you use Houdini, it makes sense why there isn't. Everything is node trees. Once you get use to it, proceduralism is very logical. By Procedural, I mean this, instead of, carrying a bucket to the well every time you want water, you build a pipeline and turn the faucet on and off. You give the app a set of instructions instead of manually doing each step; then you don't have to do it over each time; you tell it how to do it. Take it a step further, and you can compile the instructions into its program or HDA (Houdini Digital Asset). However, it's not an "artsy" kind of editing. So to learn Houdini, you need patience and persistence. Go specifically after the effect you want with a tutorial. For me, it's not like I can make up workflows. So I have to use step-by-step tutorials. There's a massive surge of tutorials, so that's not a problem. There's a lot of users sharing "Hip" or project files. There are some automatic buttons for most of the common effects. So it is possible to just click a button and get the factoring effects but most tutorials shy away from them in lieu of how Houdini functions under the hood. You don't have to be a coder to use Houdini but simple codes are common among most tutorials (just copy them). I'm not a programmer, but I have learned to do most of what I need very quickly. Again, just find the exact effect you want on YouTube and follow it precisely.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

Very Technical. It's not artistically intuitive but that's not a problem. Don't expect to paint or draw. It's procedural so you have to use nodes. It's only different. What I dislike is some of the effects that I would consider to be common are not common among users. For example, you will see lots of tutorials on a destruction of architecture but not many on characters interacting with the destruction, like smashing through a wall or breaking a prop. However, with a bit of research I did the effects and created tutorials. Also, some of the export options like alembic should be more direct and intuitive. However, it works well. Once you have something built, it's easy to make very flexible changes.

**Recommendations to others considering Houdini:**

Houdini has a very technical approach. Be prepared to dedicate time, practice, and patience.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's excellent for fracturing and dynamic effects. Bullet solver for Rigid Body dynamics is very powerful. Houdini solves my lack of support for Mac OS destruction tools. I won't say I no longer use RealFlow or DMM for destruction, but my first "Go-To" app for destruction is Houdini.

 ### 15. Fantastic Software

Things are bit complicated but if once understood you can do a lot of amazing stuff.

**Recommendations to others considering Houdini:**

You can use houdini easily if you have the knowledge of Vex or C++ it will be more simple and easy

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Rendering quality is as good as arnold if you use the good settings of the render.

 ### 17. A hard program to learn, but invaluable once done.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Motion Pictures and Film | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 25, 2020

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

The procedural work flow allows for easy, quick changes to be made anywhere in the pipeline. This saves me a tremendous amount of time.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

The learning curve to start using the program is quite steep, but I can't say I dislike that. I've really enjoyed learning everything I have done so far, even though it has been difficult at times.

**Recommendations to others considering Houdini:**

It's tough to learn, but definitely worth the trouble!

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Most recently I was working on an independent film where an alien vomits on a character. The crew could not get it to look good practically, so we decided to sim it in Houdini. For my first liquid simulation, it turned out great!

 ### 18. Powerful 3D software, steep learning curve

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kevin K. | Administrative staff member, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2020

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

-Houdini works on a node system which makes complex and unique 3D modeling tasks efficient.
-Houdini is also a well known tool and therefore has loads of support online with a great community.
- Lots of plugins are available for the program.
-powerful rendering capabilities.
-built in particle and fluid dynamics.
-free for students or hobbyists learning Houdini not for profit or commercial use.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

-extremely steep learning curve compared to other 3D tools in the same class.
-interface is a little cluttered and confusing.

**Recommendations to others considering Houdini:**

Start slow and easy to get into the steep learning curve, patience is needed!

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Making advanced and realistic 3d models and animation is just better with Houdini most of the time.

 ### 19. Houdini - what an amazing piece of software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Conrad H. | Mr, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

I like the node-based way of working a lot. It's real useful to me as someone who is not traditionally a good modeler or 3D artist to work through things procedurally to ensure that I can get a nice pipeline and a nice result at the end of it.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

Sometimes things can get pretty complicated, and I'll find that some number buried somewhere has cost me an hour or so. It's nice when that doesn't happen.

**Recommendations to others considering Houdini:**

Go for it! Take the plunge.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Houdini is integral to our pipeline to be able to enable us to create film-quality VFX and export them cheaply to Unreal Engine and have them running in VR. Without Houdini this would be very difficult.

 ### 20. Fantastic tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Animation | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 23, 2019

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

Almost anything you can think of you can create out of the box, theres nothing else so open and cleverly engineered.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

Some smaller tasks are a pain in Houdini, The viewport is less than stellar. Could have much better multi-thread support under the hood. Can be clunky.

**Recommendations to others considering Houdini:**

Give it time at the beginning, the initial learning curve is steep and sometimes patience is need when setting something from scratch at the beginning, but you will save time at the end of the project by building something nice and automated especially fo you.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Daily driver, great for developing bespoke workflows per project. Very powerful for procedural solutions

 ### 21. Producer Working with Houdini

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Entertainment | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 17, 2019

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

The fact that this product is far superior to Maya which is what we have been using for all of our CG and FX. From workflow to rendering and scope, it just works better

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

From a producer's standpoint, the cost, but I do think that in some ways it is justified consider how much it can do. However, I think that the company knows that this is the industry standard

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are a small VFX studio an we needed to step up to this level if wanted to maintain a competitive product

 ### 22. Very Polihedric Software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Roberto T. | Lead Artist, E-Learning, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 02, 2017

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

Houdini is widely used for Visual Effects; however, as game artist, what I enjoy the best from Houdini is the possiblity to create procedural asset.
Moreover, the community is helpful and from the officia website you can access lot of tutorial and documentation that will help you to get confident with the software.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

I deeply appreciate this software and it is difficult to find something to dislike.
My main difficulty in using Houdini, coming from a Fine Art background, was a pretty step learning curve.
The software is not very user friendly for an artist, and you need to get familiar with nodes and possibly python language (even though this is not fundamental).

**Recommendations to others considering Houdini:**

If, like me, you will find it difficult to learn Houdini at the beginning, just stick to it: your efforts will be repaid.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Working with Houdini and creating procedural asset allows me to speed up the production.
Creating one Digital Asset, allows me to obtain multiple and different meshes.

 ### 23. Houdini is a houdini for particle simulations

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mirko R. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 28, 2017

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

Particle simulations with Houdini is one of the best options in this 3d program. The rendering engine is also very good. Quick solutions can be found for any problem that involves particle simulations in every kind of 3d environment. It is compatible with other 3d softwares.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

The program just lost momentum. There were a lot of expectations for this program but they did not listen to the users. INterface is very confusing for new customers. They have to learn a lot of new otion that are not intuitive so it takes too much time to resolve a simple problem. Because the are one of the last Autodesk competitors in the 3D industry Houdini should also cost much less to survive and unleash its full potential but they missed it to do, so that there are less and less users, and many do not want to learn how to use another 3d program just for a few good options that it contains, so people like me are leaving the considerations of even trying to use the best functions in it.

**Recommendations to others considering Houdini:**

Perfect for dynamic simulations.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There are a lot of options for making particle simulations and rendering options were also very good.

 ### 24. User-friendly

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Courtney Y. | Marketing Intern, Fine Art, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 01, 2016

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

Compared to the constantly changing interface of Maya, Houdini has proven to be extremely easy to use and easy to learn. The functions all work extremely well and it can handle a wide range of physics-based elements. There are plenty of tutorials online if you're willing to look for them.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

The only part of Houdini I don't like is how it isn't the best tool for modeling. I would use it for everything but sometimes I have to switch between two programs which is a hassle. The modeling tools aren't necessarily bad, but they're a bit harder to use than a program built for solely that. I'd use Houdini more for effects and simulations as opposed to creating characters or full length animations.

**Recommendations to others considering Houdini:**

Try to use both at first then see if you can switch to Houdini fully. Houdini is a great program but it does take some getting used to. Learn all the shortcuts and really focus in on that hypergraph because it's set up so much nicer than other programs.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My biggest problems are creating procedural assets to be transferred to Maya. Houdini is great at creating and implementing these

 ### 25. Amazing Software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mike B. | Lead Technical Artist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2016

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

The software is extremely powerful for anything procedural. The node-based workflow is consistent throughout the program so when you learn one aspect of the software you can take that knowledge to another. This means that once you learn how to work with the nodes for fluid dynamics, you can take that knowledge and use them on textures, It has limitless possibilities due to its procedural nature and powerful engine. Houdini Digital Assets can be exported and used like plugins inside other programs. These plugins are run in the Houdini Engine inside of programs like Maya and Cinema 4D. Mantra rendering engine is very powerful and gives great results with a little tweaking.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

Very steep learning curve. A lot of the resources online, both independent and from SideFX, were outdated when I first started using the software (2014). This made it difficult to pick up on my own. The software also requires a lot of technical knowledge, making it hard for most artists to take advantage of its power.

**Recommendations to others considering Houdini:**

Invest in tutorials, especially up to date ones. A lot of changed in the past couple of years, but all for the better. A lot of settings have moved around and such, but after a few months things should start to make sense. Its a very impressive and powerful software when you get the hang of it.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm still learning Houdini, so I'm not able to utilize all of its abilities. I've heard of big studios completely incorporating Houdini into their 3D pipelines. They use it for FX simulations, scene lighting/rendering, and shading.

 ### 26. Amazing and flexible procedural workflow

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Julian R. | Part time lecturer, Animation, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 08, 2016

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

For me, the most important feature of houdini is the node workflow, when you create procedures it's really easy to combine, reuse or even review the work you have done. Furthermore, Features like the packing geometry allow an excellent performance which means you require less hardware resources to achieve good or even great results!

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

There are still some problems with the viewport, specially in Mac, some right click options cannot be activated and the point display freezes frequently. Also, it would be nice to have the possibility to open two or more sessions in mac so you can copy and paste parts of previous networks and work on several files at the same time.

The modelling tools definitely need to be refined, there are a lot of problems in the viewport when you try to move vertices or switch tools. The edit and blast node features are nice but Houdini has problems when selecting multiple faces causing the generation of just too much nodes.

Moreover it would be nice to have a preset library for mantra materials and enhance the current interface to make more user friendly the addition of specular maps and normal maps.

**Recommendations to others considering Houdini:**

Don't be afraid to play and have fun doing stuff.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The possibility to create assets and tools which I can combine and reuse for different projects.

The performance on the program is really fast and efficient allowing me to work even on a laptop.

 ### 27. Amazed with which tasks I can accomplish

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lucas K. | VFX Freelancer, Motion Pictures and Film, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 08, 2016

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

I love the procedural nature of the software and the fact that every task or job can be built into a tool and incorporated on the pipeline. The copy sop provides a robust way of duplicating geometry and randomizing it's attributes. The attrib VOP allows for a nice way of visual programming in VEX, making it possible to work with scripts without really having to learn to program.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

The learning curve still very steep in some areas, sometimes it takes a long time to do something default from another packages. I would wish to see improvements on it's viewport display, it still a bit buggy depending on the version you are running.

**Recommendations to others considering Houdini:**

Houdini is a must in any studio today, doesn't matter it's size. A small studio can get very interesting results fast as well as creative solutions and effects not possible otherwise. A big studio will always gain from it's robust effects tools and procedural nature.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm improving my workflow and pipeline creating tools for repetitive and complex tasks. I realize I can have a very automated system for most of my effects. After a few hours of R&D I can turn several different versions for client approval that would take me many more hours of repetitive work on other packages.
Also, with alembic support growing in other packages it is becoming easier everyday to integrate Houdini in the pipeline. With Houdini Engine I'm able to create assets inside houdini and easily translate that to games and other products.

 ### 28. Learning curve, but a powerful tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

I love the program's ability to handle large amounts of geometry. It is very efficient for creating complex scenes that require duplicated geometry. It also allows for easy procedural modeling and animation, which results in much less meticulous work from the user. The mantra render is also produces very nice results. It also has some of the nicest tools for particles and fluids.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

There is a strong learning curve if you are not familiar with using a nodular workflow. If you are new at this your workspace will also likely become quite messy and tangled with the connected nodes.

**Recommendations to others considering Houdini:**

I would highly recommend any 3D artist try Houdini, it has a toolset that is fairly wide. Some of it's aspects, such as particles and fluids, are better than that of its competitors.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used this software primarily to easily create complex scenes of repeating geometry. I have realized the benefits of Houdini's copying abilities, and use of instancing lights and geometry on to points.

 ### 29. Not for the faint of heart, Definitely for the big production value!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

Houdini is incredibly powerful. You wouldn't believe what it can create with in a short amount of time for well versed artists.

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

The level of complexity is very challenging and the community seems rather small compared to that of other 3D packages. The biggest downfall for houdini without a doubt was the learning curve. It turns away many people.

**Recommendations to others considering Houdini:**

Get some serious training. You'll be glad you use it. Don't get realflow or other packages for FX. This is the FX simulation package to use.

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When I need to create a powerful simulation or visual item for a client I can always rely on Houdini to be capable.

 ### 30. The Leader of Effects

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kevin a. | Design Lead for a Non-Profit, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 31, 2016

**What do you like best about Houdini?**

There are only a few effects software out there and Houdini FX gives a superior performance and dramatic and easy to use yet powerful 3D experience to VFX artists . The ability to integrate all your effects to your scene using a third party software is good . Houdini is fast and reduces timlines and enjoys enhanced flexibility in all your creative tasks . Houdini is perfect for visual effects and tech directors using effecrs , particle system and dynamics . Houdini is being taught to many students who desire to become an effects and simulation artist . So there is always a future for people who are willing to learn or become a effects artist .

**What do you dislike about Houdini?**

Houdini is expensive . If you want limited options for a game Houdini offers that too with a annual subscription . About the workflow , Houdini FX allows users to integrate their effects with 3d modelling softwares so that , we don't have to switch it here and there . But , sometime , that makes your system to lag and some times to crash .

**Recommendations to others considering Houdini:**

Consider using , other effects softwares first .

**What problems is Houdini solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I prefer to use dynamics and particles from the 3d modeling software inside , cause it's better when your composing . Since I have mentioned that Houdini is costly I cannot afford it . I use it in my university to achieve better effetcs if my softwares can't handle that amount of usage .
