## About PVCAD
PVCAD is a specialized solar design software that integrates with AutoCAD to provide precision engineering and design capabilities for photovoltaic systems. PVCAD is designed for engineers, designers, and developers working on Utility Scale, Commercial, and Industrial solar projects for both Rooftops and Groundmounts. Started by PVComplete Inc in 2015, the PVCAD team is now part of Enact Systems Inc since Jan 2026. As a CAD-based solar design platform, PVCAD enables users to create detailed, construction-ready plan sets with automated solar layouts that optimize panel placement while considering spacing, shading, and structural requirements. The software works within AutoDesk&#39;s AutoCAD environment, offering users the choice between a plug-in version for existing AutoCAD users or a bundled version that includes an OEM AutoCAD license for those without existing AutoCAD access. PVCAD streamlines the entire solar design workflow from initial site assessment to final engineering deliverables. Users can import satellite imagery, site plans, and terrain topographic data to create accurate project foundations The software automatically generates layouts for rooftop, carports, and ground-mounted installations including agri with single axis trackers, while ensuring compliance with local building codes and electrical standards including NEC, ASCE, IBC, and UL requirements. The platform includes comprehensive electrical design capabilities, allowing users to select from an extensive database of solar modules and inverters, create automated string configurations, and generate single-line diagrams with supporting electrical calculations. PVCAD also provides structural analysis features that ensure designs meet wind, snow, and load requirements based on local environmental conditions. PVCAD offers industry leading yield/yield simulation capabilities out of the box. For more detailed performance analysis and bankable reports, it supports an export to PVSyst. While PVCAD users can import layouts from popular Proposal tools, it can also export engineering layouts directly to PVSyst, as well as generate AutoCAD files, eliminating the need to recreate designs in multiple software platforms among different players. PVCAD generates professional engineering deliverables including bill of materials (BOM), energy production estimates, shading analysis reports, and permit-ready plan sets. The software&#39;s template system automatically transfers design data into standardized documents, reducing manual data entry and potential errors while ensuring consistency across all project outputs.

**What do you like best about PVCAD?**

I like PVCAD’s automation features because they reduce manual work and save time. Its integration with AutoCAD makes the workflow feel seamless, and it helps me complete accurate solar PV designs much faster. It also generates a complete PVSYST project file, which helps me finish PVSYST in less time, including the 3D construction.

**What do you dislike about PVCAD?**

I find it could be faster when handling larger projects, and I wish it offered more optimization options. Tagging for inverter stringing names and cable trench spaces, as well as roads with bending radius, should be further developed.

**What problems is PVCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When I need to handle basic DC system capacity sizing or AC system capacity sizing, this software lets me do it quickly, along with generating a bill of materials that includes the details I care about. For larger projects, that means complete DC cable lengths and AC cable lengths are accounted for as well. Overall, it helps me price projects faster and makes the sizing and materials planning process much more efficient which helps in making the project pricing and LCOE calculations and ROI calculations can be easily done. UI of this software is very user friendly to understand as it step by step procedure defined easily to understand.

The software offers a comprehensive set of features for solar project design, including site layout, shading analysis, energy production estimates, and system optimization. The interface is well organized, and the results are reliable, making it a valuable tool for engineering and feasibility studies

**What problems is PVCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

solves the challenge of creating accurate and efficient solar PV designs by automating panel layouts, electrical stringing, cable routing, and construction documentation within AutoCAD. It has significantly reduced manual drafting time, improved design accuracy, minimized errors, and helped us deliver projects faster with consistent, high-quality outputs.
