Displaying data in a multitude of ways how we want is one of the key components that we enjoy. **What do you dislike about Progress Kendo UI?** Sometimes new features are added in later versions of the software, but the documentation doesn't always say when that feature was added. So if you're on a later version of the software and try to implement a newer feature in the documentation that isn't supported in your version, it can lead to some initial confusion. **Recommendations to others considering Progress Kendo UI:** The flexibility and timetested use of the components that Kendo UI provides is by far the greatest strength. The support department is always quick to respond to any concerns or problems that you may be facing. If for some reason you're having a problem with a component and are unable to come up with a solution, their support department is there to give you guidance on various solution or workarounds. **What problems is Progress Kendo UI solving and how is that benefiting you?** The main use that we use Kendo UI for is a platform for our customers to see their data in a way that they want. The documentation for all of this, from API properties and methods to component overviews to 'how to use' examples is a truly great resource. In addition, there are now 'Getting Started' videos for all flavors of Kendo UI. All of this has made bringing new developers into the mix fairly easy as they have a huge ecosystem from which to learn Kendo UI. **What do you dislike about Progress Kendo UI?** Icons used in components are all web font icons as of 2017. While I understand that staying current. etc is of importance; the wholesale change to font icon has caused some issue with government agencles as they choose to block the download of font icons. Progress has stated that they made decision based on popular demand, but now the only remediation in such circumstances is to use older versions. **Recommendations to others considering Progress Kendo UI:** Kendo UI is well suited for grid-based applications. Additionally, dashboards, scheduling, and content management are also excellent applications where Kendo UI shines. You can even do online spreadsheets via a component. More recently Telerik/Progress is addressing backwards compatibility issues but we still run into problems from time-to-time. We also need a fast graphical user interface that won't slow down as you add multiple widgets. Kendo UI provides these widgets and they are completely customizable. I think Kendo UI greatly reduces the front-end side code. **What do you dislike about Progress Kendo UI?** One of the things that I do not like about Kendo was the change of the page to different frameworks, it does not have the same structure as that of jquery and thus the user gets a bit confused. **What problems is Progress Kendo UI solving and how is that benefiting you?** Within an information system we are obliged to show information in a tabular way but it is a bit cumbersome, with the boom of the framework, data display became a little simpler, but with kendo the ease of using one or another component is even simpler than just using the framework. We're finding strange behavior constantly. We're using Kendo UI, which is supposed to speed up development. I honestly think I could have accomplished the same with jQuery UI in half the time. #2, the Kendo numeric formatting does not behave the same as ASP.NET formatting. Why? You'll need to come up with "work-arounds" to get numbers to format like you would expect. #3, Telerik Reporting is extremely difficult to use, and the documentation is terrible. #4, what the controls do to the DOM. A ton of convoluted markup is added. #5, we have another app that uses WebForms, and Telerik controls, and these controls are much more robust - and better documented - than the HTML5 controls. **Recommendations to others considering Progress Kendo UI:** Hindsight is 20/20, but we've spent more time figuring out how to use Kendo/Telerik than it is worth. We evaluated a handful of UI packages supporting HTML5 and finally settled with the Kendo UI framework with ASP.NET MVC support. Working with ajax was altogether a different feel and took a different mindset, however, the learning curve was not that steep and the components delivered beyond our expectations. We have upgraded our applications alongside each quarterly release of Kendo and have not once faced any regression issues. **What do you dislike about Progress Kendo UI?** There is not much to put down here.... The only regret I have is not being able to use the package manager for Visual Studio as we have our own project layout requirements. Updates to newer versions have been quite smooth. When needed we have been able to override their code to tweak performance for our specific, near real-time requirements. If we didn't have to allow for our customers to modify the UI, the KendoUI performance is quite sufficient. We have not adopted their date pickers but we are considering doing so. We have leveraged Kendo for custom searchable drop downs. They are fast and easy to configure. We are using the JQuery libraries that they supply so we avoid any incompatibilities with versions coming directly off the web. We do also use their collapsible data trees to good effect and allow our end customers to customize the final look via CSS files.
