Onboarding was easy because their software automatically measured the user flow in our web app, which is then used to create test cases. The ProdPerfect team created the test cases and got them up and running without very much input from me. Once testing was operational, we held a highly effective weekly meeting series to discuss the system use, testing issues, and new test cases. My finding is that we achieved more than we would have with a fulltime QA engineer, for about 50% of the price of a off-shore (relative to U.S.) engineer. **What do you dislike about ProdPerfect?** The ProdPerfect team has good handle on what is needed in the roadmap. In general it would be ideal for the test execution cases to be run in parallel with no-dependency executions. This is something they have been working on but is not ready yet. Not having this feature means that testing of each case is done in series which takes more time and there are some reporting challenges with failures. For example the JavaScript environment is not aware of which test case is running, so the test case ID cannot be included in logging reports (e.g. Sentry) **What problems is ProdPerfect solving and how is that benefiting you?** My aim was to achieve frontend test coverage without hiring a full time QA engineer and I was able to do this with ProdPefect and the cost was about 50% of what a QA engineer would have cost. Considering that comparison, the rest of the Continuous Integration system comes for free in the sense of having the hourly testing compute engaged + a pass/fail dashboard for viewing results. ### 2. ProdPerfect has proven that they can find unexpected breaks in our integration environments before we deploy to production. **What do you dislike about ProdPerfect?** There are not many downsides to ProdPerfect. Depending on your needs, their test cases may rely on established user accounts and pre-existing data. This requirement may tie your tests to a specific pre-prepared test environment. ProdPerfect allows unlimited testing in any test environment, but you have to handle the environment duplication yourself. For us, this isn't a big deal, but we would love to run ProdPerfect in all of our test environments efficiently. **What problems is ProdPerfect solving and how is that benefiting you?** Building and maintaining an automated E2E front-end test system is a full-time job for at least one person, ideally more. We needed to keep our engineering costs down as much as possible, so ProdPerfect is a good fit ### 3. Our regression test coverage is now based on real usage patterns and regularly being updated and monitored and very well integrated with our CI/CD pipeline. We are able to run the entire test suite in any environment pretty easily and in a timely manner. If and when the tests fail, it is easy to debug and find the cause. The customer service and support from ProdPerfect is top notch. **What do you dislike about ProdPerfect?** In some rare instances, there are false alarms, but that is expected from automated tools. I'd rather have occasional false alarms than letting a defect or a bug go to production. **What problems is ProdPerfect solving and how is that benefiting you?** To move fast, allowing engineers to focus on writing good quality software and unit tests and deploying with a high level of confidence. ### 4. Automation process was a bit slow in the beginning mostly because of problems with access to environment on our side but once this problem was resolved they automated 65% of most used scenarios in a very short period of time. They're always ready to add any feature you ask without any hesitation. Test suite integrated with CI/CD pipeline. Run time is perfect for us and tacking just 15 minutes. Even if testing suite will grow we already have a solution to keep 15 minutes run as our standard. **What do you dislike about ProdPerfect?** I can't say that I dislike something in the product even if it was very raw in the beginning, ProdPerfect team tremendously improved it during short period of time. I'm really looking forward for improvements on failing tests side. Historically, the worst part of working with an outsourced QA team has been educating them on which flows matter and keeping them abreast to changes in our application. With ProdPerfect, they're on top of it, integrated in our Slack channel, and communicating regularly when there's something we can work together to resolve before it hits production. **What do you dislike about ProdPerfect?** There's a data visualization report that shows me how ProdPerfect sees users interacting with page elements, navigation, and the path users are taking through the site. It's not super intuitive and a bit overwhelming, but luckily around when I was introduced to that page ProdPerfect let me know it was just there for my enjoyment - they'd handle actually interpreting that information and keeping an eye on things. I also have heard that they're working on a more user friendly interface for that info - which would be cool to have. **What problems is ProdPerfect solving and how is that benefiting you?** I personally don't like working with external development teams, I try to avoid hiring inhouse QA teams because I can't guarantee that there will always be meaningful work for them to do, and I really dislike bugs getting to production. This has historically been quite the pickle for engineering teams I manage, but with ProdPerfect I'm getting a self-learning (through the tracking pixel on the site) external dev team that acts more like an in-house team, and the price point we're paying is way lower than having an inhouse dedicated resource. We're saving money, pushing less bugs to production, and focusing the small engineering team we do have on building great things instead of urgently fixing bugs that slipped past the checks we had before ProdPerfect. ### 8. It's shocking that no other service like this exists already, and their execution of it is top notch. **What problems is ProdPerfect solving and how is that benefiting you?** Problems: having a cost-effective way to have a last line of defense between our unit tests and production – occasionally unit tests will miss something bigger picture. Additionally, the e2e tests from ProdPerfect are better and cover more cases, and they're updated more quickly. Much better than doing it ourselves. **What do you dislike about ProdPerfect?** Test updating on weekends/after hours does not happen, so you sometimes get stuck not being able to merge on the weekends if you have changes to interface. **What problems is ProdPerfect solving and how is that benefiting you?** The primary problem we are solving is code quality and speed of high-quality software development. By having good end-to-end tests, we identify potential problems with new code before it is merged/can be released, and we catch it at the point that the developer who wrote it can quickly identify and fix it. (As opposed to waiting until it's merged, and then having a developer who may not have written it try to find it/figure it out). ### 10. This gives us an extremely high level of confidence that we can develop and deploy safely to our users **What do you dislike about ProdPerfect?** Honestly nothing - the team is great, they don't sell you a product - they form a partnership with you and in the tech space there are so many people trying to sell you so many things - this is a refreshing benefit of working with them **Recommendations to others considering ProdPerfect:** Just do it. The initial setup work was painless and quick, and the delivery team has been prompt and proactive in finding solutions and workarounds to every technical issue that's come up. Flaky tests and false alarms have dominated most of my past experiences with test automation, and the ProdPerfect team has offloaded all the toil of chasing down and resolving intermittent failures. Their test suites (and support) have improved our product stability, and helped us keep our engineering focus on building new features and deploying with frequency. **What do you dislike about ProdPerfect?** We are PST and the ProdPerfect team is EST, which has created some small scheduling challenges. We trigger their test automation suite with each staging and production deployment we make. With this coverage, we've been able to respond more quickly to outages, and we've been able to make bolder changes across our stack, knowing that we have good test coverage to validate them. ### 13. Rather than "automating everything" and wading through the results. We can focus on alerts generated that impact the majority of users. Also, the ProdPerfect team is very responsive to questions and concerns that come up. Response times can be measured in minutes, rather than hours. **What do you dislike about ProdPerfect?** Running the test suite on our local machines is time consuming and there is not a mobile testing option. Ideally we would have a "dashboard" to allow us to easily select the tests we want to run and kick them off with the click of a mouse **Recommendations to others considering ProdPerfect:** If you need regression automation focused on the code most commonly used by your live users, this is the product for you **What problems is ProdPerfect solving and how is that benefiting you?** We had a need to run continuous regression automation in the background to ensure site reliability (at a user level). The ProdPerfect team was able to come in, analyze user behavior (at the code level) and create a custom test suite that fit our needs.
