Digging through the Sensitive Data Discovery reviews on G2 from the customization angle, specifically, the split that actually matters here is whether &quot;customizable&quot; means adjusting a no-code rule builder or means someone eventually has to write a custom script or regex pattern, since those are very different amounts of ongoing engineering investment even when both get marketed under the same word. Reviewers describing rule creation as intuitive and powerful are usually also describing a team that spent real time tuning classifiers to balance catching genuine sensitive data against over-aggressive false flagging, which suggests customization capability and customization effort tend to move together rather than one buying you out of the other. 

Industry-specific identifiers are where the gap between prebuilt coverage and genuine customization shows up most clearly. A tool with deep prebuilt PII pattern libraries can still leave you scripting when your sensitive data doesn&#39;t look like standard PII, a proprietary internal ID format, or a domain-specific document type. The tool that lets someone match their own data patterns without a service engagement is probably the one whose no-code rule builder was actually designed for a non-engineer to use, rather than one that markets flexibility but still expects a technical user to configure the harder cases.
