On top of that it is relatively easy to tweak parameters and features for custom needs **What do you dislike about PrestoDB?** We use Hive and Presto in parallel but I keep going back to Presto everytime and I don't have anything to dislike actually. **What problems is PrestoDB solving and how is that benefiting you?** As I mentioned earlier, we use presto on top of Hive tables, MySQL tables. It provides us a unified place to query and get insights quickly. ### 2. The ability to query data from multiple sources in a single query has been a game-changer, allowing me to analyze data across various systems without moving it to a central location. The scalability of PrestoDB is also commendable, and I have been able to handle large volumes of data and high query loads without any issues. The support for a wide range of data formats and data sources has made it easy for me to integrate PrestoDB into my existing data ecosystem. **What do you dislike about PrestoDB?** The only downside I have experienced is that the learning curve can be steep, especially if you are unfamiliar with distributed systems. PrestoDB is designed for analytical queries, and therefore, it has limited support for transactions. If we require transaction support, we may use another tool alongside PrestoDB. PrestoDB does not have native security features, such as encryption, authentication, and authorization. We have to implement these features separately. **What problems is PrestoDB solving and how is that benefiting you?** PrestoDB enables users to query data across multiple data sources with a single query. This eliminates the need to move or copy data into a centralized data warehouse, which can be time-consuming and resource-intensive. PrestoDB supports a wide range of data formats and sources, making it a versatile tool for data analysis. It can work with structured and unstructured data and supports various storage systems such as Hadoop, MySQL, Cassandra, etc. ### 4. The distributed nature of it allows to run queries faster and utilize the resource at their max if designed properly. Community is great as well. **What do you dislike about PrestoDB?** It is harder for Presto to stay relevant as many analytical DB solutions of today are much more price efficient. The learning curve and design considerations are far steeper in Presto, making it unnecessarily complex. It also requires a lot of other tools to fill the gaps as it is not a complete solution. **What problems is PrestoDB solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our motivation was price back then, and it served its purpose until it started to become a liability. Being open-source with huge community support helped us built it easily. ### 5. It is very fast due to highly optimised query engine and is well suited for analysis. It is also highly flexible and as it acts like plug and play for data models from sources. **What do you dislike about PrestoDB?** It does not leverage disk and used memory for processing which in turn makes it fast. So it was designed for large scale fact joins and in real world, people like to use one system for all their use cases. So this problem should be solved. **What problems is PrestoDB solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is used as adhoc querying on datasets and also for a fee data driven applications. It can be used to make data driven decissions, reporting, experimenting analysis. ### 7. I like the share link function where you can easily share a link with query results to your colleagues. And the colleagues can see both the query and the result from the query. **What do you dislike about PrestoDB?** You have to integrate it with your data system, and presto sometimes can cause data blip or intermittent errors when hitting a table if this table is refreshing. Plus the cost to use presto is also a little bit high compared to GCP. **What problems is PrestoDB solving and how is that benefiting you?** The problem we are trying to solve is to efficiently query the data and make it scalable. The benefit of this product is that it is super fast compared to some other solutions, and it is easy to share the result with coworkers. Plus querying presto is super fast, and you can query very large data sets. ### 10. Because of optimized query engine It is incredibly fast database. As it operates with plug and play model for data source It is flexible. It follows ANSI sql because of that writing query is similar to SQL. Performance wise it is very good. **What do you dislike about PrestoDB?** It is a bit expensive. sometime it gives error. Apart from this i didn't find any disadvantages of using it. **Recommendations to others considering PrestoDB:** Bit expensive but very fast. With this tool maybe you don't need anymore because it is posible to cercatifica, to messure and control the costs. **What do you dislike about PrestoDB?** Maybe the worst thing for me is that to make informs is some diffitult to find where have to go.
