These services are very good but they locked you in their cloud. If you have on premisses K8s, and/or in different clouds, you end up having to manage different ways to deploy and manage your Kubernetes Cluster. With Platform9 you forget all the hassle to install and maintain your different K8s clusters. Platform9 allows you to easily install a fully functional, production-grade, and on-premises cluster from scratch in less than 15 minutes. They also have specific integrations for AWS and Google, so you can have the resources provided by these cloud providers without being locked in. Currently, we have 6 clusters and zero maintenance. We can define roles to access specific resources on our cluster and each user is able to download your own Kubeconfig. The support is amazing, always helping me in the specific cases I had. **What do you dislike about Platform9 Managed Kubernetes (PMK)?** Besides being powerful, I still missing some features very specific to my use case. One of these features is the ability to change the instance type on PF9 AWS installations using the control panel. Earlier I was using different third-party applications for maintaining our clusters, but after I started using PMK, everything seems so convenient and easy to maintain. It's really easy take care of your infrastructure, you can implement alert if any problems occur at your cluster, or node, or pods or deployments or service. Another very important thing is the RBAC for get access to the resource of your account, there are different kind of user that you can create. It's possible create role for a single cluster or binding a role to every cluster! You can define the rules for the alarm and decide the way platform9 will advise you n case of problems. It's possible to add namespaces and storage classes. You can download the Kubeconfig of your cluster with two type of authentication method: by token and by using a password. Very important to me, maybe because i'm from Italy and here we still have a lot of hardware in the factory, is the possibility te deploy a cluster on a bare metal infrastructure. The automatic upgrade of the kubernetes version and of the cluster without downtime for you application is another great thing! The possibility to have a multi-tenancy is fundamental for this kind of platform! Really well done Platform9! But if you are looking for IaaS on prem, you need to give Platform 9 a shot at being your partner, whether you have OpenStack experience or not. Everyone on their team is top notch, from pre-sales through long term support, Platform 9 has been committed to the success of our on prem platform which has required a significant amount of support to allow our CI/CD pipeline to make our developers' lives easier. **What do you dislike about Platform9 Managed Kubernetes (PMK)?** The only concern for us is that the control plane is in the cloud (AWS for now) and having multiple calls for certain functions means that the response time for API calls lags quite a bit behind what we see with our on-prem OpenStack platform, which is being retired. We have also had issues with the HA setup, but fixes are promised in the next version. However, if you are using OpenStack like VMWare or Hyper-V where your instances (VMs) and applications rely on the underlying infrastructure for high availability, you are doing it wrong. OpenStack is first and foremost designed for cloud-native applications. Use it as such. We have also had so configuration bumps along the way but that has largely been due to the expectations of the business based on our on-prem infrastructure and other component integration such as hardware and storage. **Recommendations to others considering Platform9 Managed Kubernetes (PMK):** Work closely with there engineers to design the right platform for you. They have a wealth of experience and getting the setup correct from the start is key to a successful OpenStack environment. **What problems is Platform9 Managed Kubernetes (PMK) solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our software deployments used to take weeks from coding to testing and finally to live. Now, it takes just minutes. A robust CI/CD pipeline is a must for this to work, but Platform 9 provides the infrastructure to make that possible.
