If we had decided to have our website built from scratch it would have cost much more. The Empire theme gave us a solid foundation to start with and build upon. Their support have also been very responsive and when we've made recommendations for future improvements they actually listened and implemented the changes which is refreshing to see from a company. **What do you dislike about Pixel Union?** There's nothing I dislike. We've had an overall great experience with Pixel Union and specifically the Empire theme. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a high quality Shopify theme. **Recommendations to others considering Pixel Union:** I would suggest for anyone looking for great support and high quality themes to use them. **What problems is Pixel Union solving and how is that benefiting you?** When we were launching our new website, we needed a professional looking theme that was full featured and easy to use. We've used themes from other companies however the Empire theme from Pixel Union is by far one of my favorites. I highly recommend this theme! ### 2. They have enabled us to create a discount/deal strategy around our Black Friday sales that have made us offer tremendous value to our customers while also reducing the amount of money we lose with discounts. **What do you dislike about Pixel Union?** There were times the software had a few bugs that have been on going for years now. For instance, when running a deal using Ultimate Special offers that requires a customer to spend a certain amount of money for a free product, gift cards count towards this spend. Another problem is the scripts at checkout are loaded from a 3rd party domain and we run into issues quite often where customers on business networks have these 3rd party scripts blocked and the discounting fails to work properly. **What problems is Pixel Union solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are able to offer customers better deals at a higher value to them with Pixel Unions apps. This increases our AOV as a business, while costing us less than just simply offering a blanket X% off discount. ### 3. It hasn't raised a reason for me to give any type of problems to list. Something may come up in the future but nothing as of now. **What problems is Pixel Union solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are solving the excessive time wasted to be perfecting descriptions for products. It has saved hours and gave a better description that I would have made on my own. ### 4. I had to pay for it and pay a yearly subscription to keep it updated to Shopify standards, which is not ideal. I ended up just switching to Shopify 2.0 and using the new and free Shopify theme, Dawn. There are a lot of new features that you can use on the new theme, but there are still things that need to be custom-coded. Not easy to do if you don't know the Shopify language. **What do you like best about Pixel Union?** The theme works with Shopify, but honestly, I'm not very happy with the theme's performance and compatibiity with apps, so I don't have a lot of positive things to say about it. **What do you dislike about Pixel Union?** The cart page is having compatibility issues, the product pages don't have tabs as an option, the header options are not well designed and I have issues with the main menu and the logo at the top. **Recommendations to others considering Pixel Union:** I wish I could say I recommend it. What I would recommend is testing it out and comparing to the free themes by Shopify **What problems is Pixel Union solving and how is that benefiting you?** The problem that I used it to solve is creating a drag and drop eCommerce website. Again, not a great experience, so I'm in the process of switching to the Shopify Dawn theme. They have other services like a wholesale app that I might give a try. ### 5. They post regular improvements to the theme and are quick to fix any errors discovered. When I've had issues, it has always been easy to reach out for support and get quick assistance. **What do you like best about Pixel Union?** I like their beautifully designed themes, and the ease at which I can submit a support request (which I rarely need to do). I've submitted about 3 tickets in the years that we've been using our Pixel Union theme. Their support team is thorough and they always make sure all of my questions are fully answered before closing the ticket. We bought our theme for $170 several years ago and haven't had to pay a penny since while receiving regular updates to improve the speed, features and performance of the theme. **What do you dislike about Pixel Union?** There's not a lot to dislike, the service they provide is simple and seamless. Sometimes an error is made in the code for a theme update, but as I mentioned before, they're quick to fix errors when they are discovered with a new update. We are a loyal customer of Pixel Union. We used their Wholesale app for 6+ years and decided to purchase their premium theme Superstore. That was the worst decision we made. Since the day the theme was online our wholesale customers were not able to go to the checkout anymore. It was random, some customers could, some didnt. Pixel Union support failed to find the issue and now, two months later, we are loosing orders, money and customers because of it. On a weekly base we have customers emailing or calling us that they can not place an order. They get frustrated and we can't blame them, it's 2021 and making a simple online order is not possible. It's ridiculous! The only answer we get from Pixel Union support is that they can't replicate so it must be a customer issue. This is crazy if you see the amount of customers having this issue. I would strongly advise not to work with Pixel Union for now and for sure not to purchase the Superstore theme or Wholesale club app until they resolved the issues. **What problems is Pixel Union solving and how is that benefiting you?** No solution is being given! ### 11.
