## PCLinuxOS Reviews
  ### 1. Great OS for breathing life into old hardware

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Wasimuddin A. | Radiologist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 23, 2026

**What do you like best about PCLinuxOS?**

PCLinuxOS has been rock solid for me. It just works out of the box without endless tweaking. The rolling release model means I always have up-to-date software without reinstalling the whole system. The community is incredibly welcoming and responsive, which makes troubleshooting a breeze

**What do you dislike about PCLinuxOS?**

The software repository isn't as large as some other distros like Ubuntu or Fedora, so occasionally you have to compile things manually. It also doesn't support 32-bit systems anymore, which can be limiting for older hardware

**What problems is PCLinuxOS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It replaced Windows on our older office machines that were too slow to run Win10/11. Boot times improved significantly and we stopped dealing with constant update reboots and license costs. Productivity stayed the same while IT maintenance headaches dropped considerably.

  ### 2. Stable and Lightweight Linux Distribution for Daily Use

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rodrigo M. | IT Consultant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 28, 2026

**What do you like best about PCLinuxOS?**

I use PCLinuxOS daily as the desktop OS on my work machine, mostly for development and general office tasks. It’s very stable and lightweight, and it works well right out of the box, including driver support and multimedia playback. I especially appreciate that it’s a rolling release, so I can stay up to date without having to reinstall the system.

**What do you dislike about PCLinuxOS?**

The community is smaller than those of more popular Linux distributions, so there are fewer tutorials and third-party resources available. Also, some newer applications aren’t always included by default and end up requiring manual installation.

**What problems is PCLinuxOS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PCLinuxOS solves the problem of needing a stable, reliable Linux system without frequent breaking changes. It lets me focus on my work instead of worrying about crashes or constant maintenance. This has been especially helpful for my productivity, because the system runs smoothly and remains dependable even on older hardware.

PCLinuxOS has a smaller community and software repository compared to Ubuntu or Fedora, which can make it harder to find support or newer packages, and it’s less commonly used in enterprise environments.

**What problems is PCLinuxOS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PCLinuxOS provides a stable, user-friendly Linux system with easy package management and strong hardware compatibility, which helps reduce setup time, simplifies maintenance, and allows me to run everyday tasks smoothly without needing deep technical troubleshooting.

  ### 10. PCLinux the OS Return of the Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 06, 2021

**What do you like best about PCLinuxOS?**

I like that the average everyday user can find, install, learn, and use this OS without TOO much effort. It's certainly something that takes a little time, but I appreciate that for little to no cost (when you consider the value of time) we have this product offered to us. It's a nice change of pace from the standard, run-of-the-mill vanilla software. I see a lot of potentials as this platform continues to grow and develop. It's not something you think about all the time, but the platform we work on has a giant impact on our day-to-day tasks. Picking the right (or wrong) one can either make your day a walk in the park, or else it can slowly but surely chip away at your efficiency and sanity until you are left questioning just where you went wrong.

**What do you dislike about PCLinuxOS?**

The biggest downside to this is the feeling that you do have to understand a little bit about what you're doing before you can fully optimize your usage. For example, I wouldn't tell my grandma to go online and install and use this. I probably wouldn't even tell my mom. It does require some level of sophistication, and really to even understand its advantages, you have to have done your research. To that note, I found that before everything clicked I had to do the leg-work and prepare myself. Understanding the features, understanding the help support, understanding what it is that the product is trying to accomplish, and other things like these were the key before I started enjoying my time.

**What problems is PCLinuxOS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use this to feel like I'm back in control, having made a personal decision to learn and use the platform. It truly is something where the more you put in, the more you get out. If you know nothing about it and try to use this platform, you probably will end up regretting it. Do your research. Learn from other people. Educate yourself and go through the forums and articles in order to use the full capabilities of PCLinux . Like most things in life, you get out of it what you put into it, and the result is wonderful. It has streamlined and jazzed up so much of my workflow and operations.

Sometimes the updates have bugs in them which makes it slower.

Not as compatible for a lot of software, so you are in the gaming industry, recommend less. Able to use more software than MacOS so that's a plus.

**What problems is PCLinuxOS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I build software and web infrastructure. Linux is free so much better cost for scaling.

  ### 17. Simple & stable distro

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2019

**What do you like best about PCLinuxOS?**

with PCLinuxOS, you can run a number of applications simultaneously and seamlessly without latency or crushing. It further comes with a number of pre-installed and popular applications such as Chrome and Spotify, unlike with other OS's which require separate installations. It also has KOffice, a complete suite of daily productivity software. It is light and not resource intensive and can therefore be installed on a machine with considerably low specs. It is also free, unlike other licensed counterparts

**What do you dislike about PCLinuxOS?**

PCLinuxOS does not offer a lot of themes and menus unlike other OS's, which probably explains the difference in size. It only comes in 64x and may be initially challenging to operate especially when you're used to Windows settings

**Recommendations to others considering PCLinuxOS:**

Consider some basic training for the users, especially when moving from Windows suite

**What problems is PCLinuxOS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Stable and secure desktop OS
Reduction of OS license costs

  ### 18. Free really makes you biased towards something...

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David F. | Digital Printing Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 21, 2018

**What do you like best about PCLinuxOS?**

As stated above the free software certainly has a very attractive price tag. It's not regularly used as an OS by the general public which tends to lend itself to hack prevention by default. It's not popular for the obvious reason as it's not preinstalled on computers. If people would try it out themselves they would come to find a very comfortable OS.

**What do you dislike about PCLinuxOS?**

Too much like windows? In a way hurts it I think? Also not enough like windows in other ways. Really just nitpicking but certain things are not as intuitive as they should be with a lifetime of Windows under someone's belt. But google will be your friend for awhile and things will come up roses.

**Recommendations to others considering PCLinuxOS:**

Take your time learning the product and you will be pleased with the results. Free is better than nothing and knowing this product will be helpfull to anyone in and around computers.

**What problems is PCLinuxOS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The hardware that we get back from various departments get wiped and then we install PCLinuxOS in windows place saving us time and money.
