**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 20, 2021

**Describe the project or task OpenLayers helped with:**

We needed to display all that data stored in our Postgres database on the front-end.
Front-end was requesting data with a Geoserver, returning GeoJson.
OpenLayers made this process very easy.
I had to show polygons, lines like for example properties, streets, etc.
I used Google for map server road / satellite views.

**What do you like best about OpenLayers?**

Documentations are very nice and you need to learn how to use it. It comes with good examples. Great community, you can find help on stackexchange websites like stackoverflow and gis.

**What do you dislike about OpenLayers?**

Nothing about OpenLayers, but there are some things you need to know about GIS in general to understand some features it provides.

**What problems is OpenLayers solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It works really well with GeoServer. So it's a flexible front-end solution that makes it easy to display geo data on maps.

  ### 10. Creating a web gis application for hydrologic modelling

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Environmental Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 05, 2019

**Describe the project or task OpenLayers helped with:**

In the web GIS project wer have implemented our aim was to create an application where users can upload their GIS data into our server for processing and to show processed data on a map. We have implemented new technologies such as vector layers in web GIS. OpenLayer's vector layer library have helped us to visualize spatial data and we have used some other tools such as drag&drop on map for implementing the user interaction with application.

**What do you like best about OpenLayers?**

In fact I was a great fan of Leaflet. But when I was trying to find a way to show and manage vector layers on Leaflet I came across with a problem still persist on Leaflet's vector layer library. So I changed my direction to openLayers. But my prior experience wasn't so pretty with OpenLayers (v3) but last year I've realized OpenLayers 5 was bundled with webpack and there are plenty of examples on the documentation. Boilerplate Openlayers5 project on the Github was the best thing about OpenLayers. I was able to build my project on top of it very quickly.

**What do you dislike about OpenLayers?**

Documentation is pretty good but I think there must be more examples on how to use some complicate functions. Especially third party packages.

**What problems is OpenLayers solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My problem was rendering dynamic data that streamed from server to the client. I have used the vectorlayer functions very easily.

I like the easy to start and tones of example about the OpenLayers

**What do you dislike about OpenLayers?**

I wish OpenLayers have more flexibility working on the Raster data set and google base map

**Recommendations to others considering OpenLayers:**

For web-based GIS or spatial data/map integration, I would recommend using OpenLayers. OpenLayers have a rich inbuilt function and tones of example which makes you tackle all your want and problem of data dissemination in the web platforms. With GeoServer and PostgreSQL database, OpenLayers give you the perfect way to create the geoportal or geospatial applications.

**What problems is OpenLayers solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have integrated the OpenLayers with many of my web-GIS projects and it helps me tackle up the most effective way of creating interactive maps on the web.
