But if I have to select a feature it is Prism Central. The way you can manage all in a single pane of glass is really helpful. Also I like the one-click upgrade. Just really easy the management and maintenance features. The AI integrated to the software its also really good,. Although a converge solution is good, when you begins to have hardware problems or some complex maintenance, like hypervisor upgrade, it not the easy to do it. It's amazing. Prior to Nutanix, our environment was made up of a mix and match of traditional Dell Servers and HP Blade Chassis'. Driver and Firmware/BIOS always seemed to get out of date and forgotten about. Maintenance was a real hassle and overly complicated. Our storage solution was varied and also out of date and slow. Ever since moving to Nutanix AOS with combined storage and compute, our environment has never been more well kept and up to date and maintenance is a breeze. ### 11. It cant get any easier with the one-click everything approach. **What do you dislike about Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI)?** When the 3 year warranty is up, renewing can be very expensive. It seems that it is geared this way to persuade companies to replace entire blocks rather than extending the warranty. Storage capacity availability is confusing, there is a formula that is needed to determine how much you can use before data resiliency is compromised - this should not be a calculation and should be easily viewed to admins in the prism console. Account manager in the Australia region is very different to that of their US counterparts. The Australian account manager is unresponsive and does not respond to requests forcing us to turn to our US based account for action and quotations. There has been far too many changes in the Australian arm where we have dealt with 4-5 different managers over our 5 year relationship with Nutanix Australia. In comparison, we have only had to deal with 1 who is still within the company. Due to this, I have updated the review even after communicating our concerns to the Australian account executive. **Recommendations to others considering Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI):** Work closely with the vendor and don't hesitate to open a ticket. Before using Nutanix, we spent a lot of time updating our 3 tier architecture (Storages + Blades/Servers + SAN Switches, etc) and dealing with different vendors to match the compatibility matrixes... This is a very simple task with Nutanix. From Prism menu you can update the AOS, Hypervisor (AHV, ESXi, HyperV) and the server components firmwares, like disks firmware, BIOS, BMC, etc... It does an automatic rolling upgrade, one node at a time. Another thing I really appreciate on Nutanix is the Support... yes, the support! I would say that it is the best support I ever worked with. They have a very good Knowledge Base, so for most of the day-by-day issues you can resolve by yourself following a very detailed KB. And if you need assistance, their support team is really fast... We always have an engineer ready to jump on the case just a few minutes after raising the ticket on the Portal. They are very well trained on the solution. All the issues we had were successfully fixed by the support team. **What do you dislike about Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI)?** I wont say "I dislike it", but I see some improvementsopportunities on the Nutanix Hypervisor (AHV). Some configurations are still 'not intuitive', like the nodes Network configuration... In VMware you can do it all from a Web console/GUI and it is very easy to understand what you are doing. On AHV, most part of the nodes/cluster Network configuration need to be done by command line/CLI... If you are familiar with Linux world and Open vSwitch, it will be easy for you. **Recommendations to others considering Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI):** Size your environment wiselly. Dont go with 1-node or 2-node clusters, they have a lot of constraints/unsupported features. You wont be able to scale them up easely later. **What problems is Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI) solving and how is that benefiting you?** Performance is one of the greatest benefits. After moving all our block/vm workloads to Nutanix, we stopped receiving performance complaints. The snapshot and replication (through Protection Domains) at the VM level, are very friendly and granular... You can pick which VMs you want to be replicated to DR site, instead of replicating an entire volume/LUN as we did on the legacy architecture. Prism also has some of the features you only find on VMware vROps, like the overprovisioned/underprovisioned VMs, bully VMs, not used VMs, etc. ### 16. We currently are running five different clusters, and working on adding a cluster outside of the country. With P-cent we will be able to administer all clusters in a one stop shop. **What do you dislike about Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI)?** The upgrade process can sometimes be a little clunky, but since we originally bought our first nodes the upgrade process has improved 10 folds. **Recommendations to others considering Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI):** Right size for your business, and double check your numbers before ordering. This means no licencing cost for ESXi, which is why were a moving away slowly from ESX to AHV. Management is easy, foundation (setup of the node) is also straight forward. Configuring seemingly complex DR is also simple. Both for its ease of use and for its reliability and its extremely simple one-click update system. With a Nutanix Cloud Computing platform, applications leverage the benefits of local flash performance without sacrificing the advantages of shared storage or centralized data management and protection. It is possible to manage a large hardware infrastructure very simply, but without losing any type of control. Nutanix offers powerful virtualization capabilities, including core Virtual Machine operations (VMs), live migration, high availability of Virtual Machines and virtual network management, as fully integrated infrastructure features instead of independent products that require separate implementation and administration. Acropolis App Mobility Fabric (AMF) converged backup and disaster recovery services protect your clusters. Nutanix clusters that run any hypervisor have access to these functions to offer protection to Virtual Machines, both locally and remotely for use cases ranging from basic file protection (Backup and Recovery), to the recovery of a complete interruption of the site (Disaster Recovery). Nutanix Prism offers in-depth analysis for each element in the infrastructure stack including Hardware, Storage and Virtual Machines. It's a great thing to log in Monday morning and see healthy green hearts everywhere. Managing all the elements of Acropolis is super simple with Prism Elements, and I have everything I need. Once I discovered I have all the tools I needed that VMWare makes you pay for, I realized what a striking difference of technology we're going through. I can update everything automatically, and there is no downtime. With VMWare, I need to plan everything out and make sure I'm not going an entire OS version above (6.5 to 6.7) otherwise I need to redo my entire infrastructure. **What do you dislike about Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI)?** There's not a lot of built in KB articles inside of the interface, which would be nice to go through. Even a hyperlink to particular service videos would be great. Also, the initial interaction with AOS and the CVM's through the CLI was jarring... there are also not a lot of helpful KB's for CLI newbs like myself. **What problems is Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI) solving and how is that benefiting you?** We reduced our TCO by switching from VMWare to AOS, and we have automated a lot of our reporting and alerts by using the Prism Elements services and features. Centralised management tools make it a joy to work with. **What do you dislike about Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI)?** From a management perspective, it takes too long to log into Prism and when recursive cannot be disabled, logging into Prism Central is horrendous. This is something that does really need to be fixed as when an environment is small it might not be an issue but for larger enterprise customers, this is going to be an issue. AOS also claims to have no single points of failure - apart from the single satadoms on earlier models which have caused us major issues when the firmware upgrades killed them resulting in 3-4 weeks of work to replace all of the failed modules. **What problems is Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI) solving and how is that benefiting you?** The fact that it doesn't rely on traditional SAN or NAS solutions removes that whole area of complexity.
