What do you dislike about Focal?

Client screening from Focal has been an excellent experience, except for very minimal problems. Actually, as a recommendation, I would say that the system could be enhanced further with the use of an AI chatbot which could help almost instantly for basic questions, thus avoiding the need to write to customer service so often for routine things. What problems is Focal solving and how is that benefiting you?

Focal is helping us across all our compliance needs from: user authentication and verification, AML checks, Watchlist checks, risk scoring, and transaction monitoring. We are currently also integrating with their service for IBAN validation.

Focal is an integral component of our tech stack. As a regulated financial services product, we rely heavily on Focal to meet our regulatory compliance needs. We have integrated our database via their APIs so that our checks run automatically most of the time, with compliance intervention requiredwhenever there is a positive match or a suspicious transaction.

The other major benefit I can state is that with Focal they already have a watchlist partner integrated with their system. That means we don't need a separate subscription from Refinitiv World Check, Dow Jones, Lexis Nexis or the likes. Not having a third-party subscription alone saves us approximately $15k-$20K a year. The level of automation (API usage) and ease of use of the interface are of utmost importance to us as a digital bank. The aforementioned requirements must be backed by reliability and stability, as well as a comprehensive audit trail. We are able to route all our KYC and AML traffic through Focal.
