I'm a Founding Partner @ Swift Design Solution and use Mindomo for system diagrams and technical documentation. The variety of topic shapes (cylinder for databases, cloud for cloud services, component for services, multiple documents for data stores, rectangular parallelepiped for 3D-feeling infrastructure) means my architecture diagrams look intentional rather than generic. Concept map mode with labeled relationships is perfect for showing data flow and dependencies. Being able to link a topic to a full external document, a Git repo URL, and a Confluence page all at once via multi-hyperlinks keeps our architecture map genuinely useful as a navigation hub for the codebase. If I'm reaching, I'd love a couple of standard technical iconography sets (AWS, Azure) as built-in options rather than uploading images, but that's a nice-to-have. As a product manager, I use Mindomo for roadmap planning and specification work. The timeline layout gives me a clean horizontal view of quarters and initiatives, and I can flip the same data to an organigram to show team ownership or to a Gantt chart when it's time to commit to specific dates. Boundaries with labels let me group initiatives by theme visually, and summary nodes are useful for rolling up outcomes. A couple of workflow annoyances. First, when I flip a big roadmap between views (mind map → timeline → Gantt), the layout occasionally needs a manual "auto balance" to look clean again. Second, there's no native two-way sync with Jira. I have to rely on hyperlinks. For a product-focused workflow, a Jira integration would be a killer addition. I do UX research and use Fishbone (Ishikawa) diagrams weekly for root cause analysis after usability sessions. Mindomo added Fishbone as a first-class diagram type, and it's genuinely well-implemented — you can build it out with the same TAB/ENTER speed as a regular mind map, and if the analysis grows beyond a fishbone shape, I can convert it into a concept map without losing anything. A minor thing: when I share a fishbone with stakeholders unfamiliar with the format, they occasionally need a quick orientation but that's on the diagram type itself, not Mindomo. This will work great for me because I only use it while flying, driving, or in areas where I have no internet access, and I can work offline. I could not ask for a better deal than this! You only pay for it once, your data is stored on your computer, and once you are in an area that has internet service, you can immediately sync with the cloud. If anyone is considering making this investment, I would advise you to take into account that your first year of subscription will provide free updates and Internet Image Search. However, after the first year, you will have to renew your access to both of those things. This may not seem like much now, but you will wish you had known about it before you purchased it. I do most of my work on this product (as far as using it offline) when I am flying, etc. I have purchased the Lifetime Desktop License for this software, and it works the best for me. You pay for it only once, all of your data downloads will be saved to your computer (which is where it is best stored), and you can sync your data to your cloud when you move into an area that provides internet access. It's hard to believe that I've been using this program every day for two years. The auto-save feature has never failed me. The playback history has saved me many times when I had to roll back a section of my mind map. My business partner and I have been collaborating in real-time over transatlantic phone calls without any problems. The keyboard shortcuts are an excellent touch. TAB creates a subtopic, ENTER creates a sibling topic, and Ctrl + arrow creates indents and outdents. If you learn these shortcuts, you can create a very detailed mind map in a matter of minutes.
