  ### 1. A robust solution for DMOs, Universities, and other orgs with complex calendaring needs

**What do you like best about Localist?**

Localist's data model and user interface handles complex recurring events beautifully in a way that makes it easier and easier to maintain an up to date calendar the longer we use the tool and make it easy for external stakeholders to submit and edit their own events. 

We also love that we can make unlimited custom widgets to embed whatever part of our calendar we need on webpages or blogs so we can show only the events pertinent for that topic (for instance, our website is VisitShawnee.com, but for ShawneeExpo.com the widget only displays events off our calendar that are taking place at that venue. It is AMAZING!)

Finally, the ability to automatically import events from ICS or RSS feeds has made it a lot easier to integrate with venue partners without requiring a lot of extra work from them.

Support is also super helpful!

**What do you dislike about Localist?**

While there are some analytic reports and "integration" with social, these features are limited and need to be made a bit more robust before they're worth using, at least for our organization. Only being able to post to Twitter but not Facebook or Instagram means it's just easier to use a different scheduling tool where we can do all platforms at once.

**What problems is Localist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a Destination Management Organization, Visit Shawnee seeks to bring people who are not from Shawnee, OK to our community to find their adventures at our unique events and destinations. As a part of this work, we needed an event calendar that let us show the breadth of events taking place in our city any given day in a way that was easy to navigate and query for external users, and efficient to manage for internal users. 

We needed to be able to display these events on any page of our website as necessary, and allow venue owners and event hosts to submit their own events in a way that was easy for us to approve and get into the calendar.

**What do you like best about Localist?**

Localist is a very easy service that we use to create, update and a manage events. We have used other services in the past, but I love the look and feel of the localist dashboard, as well as the look and feel from the user's end. I like that it can be customized for each customer.

**What do you dislike about Localist?**

I really don't have any dislikes --I think it's a very easy to use software that allows other folks to send in content, as well. The only thing I would improve, if anything, is to add a feature so that any size photo can be accepted when adding an event. Our standard 1920 x 1080 is too large, so we have to find unique ways to get around it.

**What problems is Localist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using Localist for a couple of different functions. First and foremost, it serves as a calendar of events on our university website, which is great, because other people can submit entries, as well. That is helpful because it offers that submission feature, but nothing is posted until approved by one of the people who are labeled as administrators on our end. The other great feature it is helping with is event management for a large-scale community service event we are planning. We have task sign ups and are allowing users to choose their own time frame and task, which takes away some of the work for the organizers on the back end. That's a plus!

**What do you like best about Localist?**

This tool has been a great addition to our office when it comes to organizing several programs that the center hosts throughout the Fall and Spring semesters. We have about 25 staff members who all play a role in the planning process.

**What do you dislike about Localist?**

There is so much to offer with Localist, that the onboarding process for a new team member can be a little intimidating. Also, we've had a few issues where a team member creates an event in Localist and the event completely disappears from the dashboard.

**What problems is Localist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've never really stumbled upon any issues with the system except for having difficulties locating an event that disappeared off the dashboard. That has only happened a couple of times. It hasn't really effected my work flow.

**What do you like best about Localist?**

Localist is a robust calendar solution for any organization with many calendar needs. They have a robust admin area that allows you to embed your calendar information on other sites—and they even let you customize the HTML output with Liquid templating. Furthermore, they have a robust API to customize your calendar data further and display it on any platform you wish. 

We moved from another outdated solution that required several old dependencies to get a calendar feed on our sites. Their API was constantly slow, and we had to implement a caching layer specifically for this old product. After a year or two with Localist, we're happy we switched and have experienced none of these problems. We've been delighted with the product and the transition.

**What do you dislike about Localist?**

There's no federated monthly calendar view. Other calendars (like Google Calendar, for example) allow you to see events happening over a whole month; whereas, this doesn't exist in Localist. Presumably, this is because there would likely be too many events per day; however, I think it would still be a nice view to display, and people would probably use it.

**What problems is Localist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They provide a robust calendar solution that lets our many web editors input events into a single, federated system.

It's really easy to post events to your organization's page. It's a great tool to help organizations ensure they're informing their audience on all of the events.

**What do you dislike about Localist?**

Honestly, there is nothing that I dislike about Localist. The tool is helpful and easy to use. I would suggest no other things to improve.

Localist helps solve the issue of trying to figure out where to post events for specific organizations. It's a great tool for an organization to have all of their events in one place to market.

**What do you like best about Localist?**

It is easy to edit and create events and is very user-friendly. I am also glad to see accessibility features such as the alt text for photos, as we like to make sure anything associated with our office is accessible.

**What do you dislike about Localist?**

I do not like the feature that tells you your reach out of 100%. Often there are no websites for events that I am posting, but the reach still shows as less than 100%.

Localist allows us to post our events to advertise to our students, as well as create a widget on our website so that we are able to see all of the events that we are doing in one consolidated place.

**What do you like best about Localist?**

Localist is a great tool for creating a comprehensive events calendar even for very large communities.  One of the best uses is the ability to embed an events widget into other web platforms.

**What do you dislike about Localist?**

Customizing the template(s) is a painful task and there's only so much you can do.  For example, depending on your use case, you may end up with events that have meaningless actions and it can be tough to modify the template so users are not misdirected/frustrated.

Localist helps us manage a enterprise-scale event calendar that allows for a decentralized workflow.  It also allows us to keep events in a separate platform from our website and integrate it seamlessly.

Simple to use, UX friendly, easy to understand, and layout is ok.  Customer services is also very helpful.

**What do you dislike about Localist?**

Cannot customize much of the layout.  It lacks the ability for event sumbitters to review their event before submitting.

Letting the community know about events. It's benefiting us just to have something to host our events but it doesn't really provide all the capabilities that we need.

Ability to link to outside resources easily. Ease of editing.

**What do you dislike about Localist?**

It can be hard to remember the keywords you need for linking to other information streams. What you see during the posting creation is rather different than how it looks as posted. It would be great if the keyword section could be more personalized and give you specific choices or remember your previous choices. You could also run a preview window alongside the editing window so you can see what it will look like in real time.

Localist and the other software system we use do not work well together so some events we have on the calendar have issues with the photos uploading.

The Localist calendar complements the office-wide calendar and allows me to get a better overview of our own as well as partner office events.

At times I don't have time to keep up with additional calendars so it would be helpful if there was a sinple integration w outlook.

The interface is simple to use and gives managers a lot of options for promoting their events across campus. The public-facing event is clean and professional looking which helps attract more people to our events.

There are so many options and steps to take in Localist that we are not taking advantage of because we don't have the time to carefully update every single calendar event with the level of detail provided by Localist. The backend could be streamlined to allow for quick entries or more detailed entries.

The creation of multiple landing pages, departments, custom fields, and reports you can generate easily.

**What do you dislike about Localist?**

The lack of extra Payment Gateways, so you need to utilize Stripe to use the payment register feature.

Localist is allowing the University of Miami to have an easily understood front end and administration end for Event/Venue Managers, and enough classifications and filtering to have each Department set up exactly how they like it.

I love the styling flexibility and how user-friendly the features are. Being able to add things to a calendar and build your own digest is great.

I've encountered a lot of users getting confused with certain things related to the submission form and event pending approval process.

Localist is very easy to use and provides simple ways to get the most out of promoting events online.

**What do you dislike about Localist?**

I wish there was a user type between user and event admin, but it isn't a deal breaker at all.

We are quickly getting our events on the web and using several users. It allows us to segment where necessary and it's easy to use.

The interface is easy to use/understand, except for multi-day events.

**What do you dislike about Localist?**

Multi-Day events that are not Conferences are hard to manage with ticketing.

We like that the registration is tied to the University calendar and that it autogenerates reminders and post-event surveys. I look at the % of effectiveness but we really don't use the pre-event marketing metrics much.

Localist works well for keeping others on campus informed about the events happening on campus. It has been decently easy to use.

Localist is decently easy to use and the main problems are lack of integration with other systems to more easily import things with matching fields.

We use Localist to promote our on-campus events to students, faculty, staff and the local community. Post-COVID campus life is rebounding and everyone is looking for things to do.

Very easy to use and intuitive, also very helpful and effective for the purpose I used it for (advertising events at university)

It was a bit confusing getting logged into Localist to use it, but that may have been due to the way my university uses it.

Localist helped me promote and publish my event to my campus, which helped with our event turnout and overall marketing.

It's effortless to use, and we can edit events seamlessly. They have an inclusion of customizable features and add-ons. It can also be optimized to match with the branding necessities.

I wouldn't say that I dislike anything. Overall it's a fantastic tool and updates frequently, and they have great customer support, making it easier to deal with.

In my opinion, it's a great platform to strengthen the organizational community. Because the events can be seen easily, attendance gets boosted, leading to successful events.

**What do you like best about Localist?**

Localist looks clean and modern, makes social sharing easy, and provides basic analytics that regular folks like me can understand. Ability to add labels/tags for filtering and organization. One-time or recurring events are simple to schedule. One-click download to add to my calendar. I do like the social/comments idea of the platform when it is used.

**What do you dislike about Localist?**

In our particular application, there just isn't very much traffic. The idea of a dedicated event calendar can feel like too much when everyone already uses their own CRM or email lists to communicate about events. I love how user-friendly the platform is. It makes it very simple for me to add, submit, and categorize all of our community events. The event goal reach is very helpful to ensure that all events reach the maximum amount of people. The team was able to design our platform to match our website perfectly, so there is a seamless transition from our website to the event platform.

The functionality behind different channels can be very confusing. We use this feature to have different calendars for different types of events such as sports, business, seasonal, etc. setting up the channels to make sure that certain events are located where they are supposed to be was a challenge. This feature would also occasionally break here and there and the events wouldn't pull through properly. One day it would work fine, and another day it would seem like we didn't have any events. Eventually, everything was fixed. but I think this feature could be improved to be more user friendly.

**What do you like best about Localist?**

It is a really nice and up-to-date online resource for a master calendar of events. It has a lot of great features that are very intuitive and user-friendly. They offer great add-ons to really enhance the product. They offer some really easy customizable options so you're site can be branded up to standards. it is very clickable and easy to track and build schedules and things of that nature. i really like that aspect about it. it's something that really helps you stay organized and engaged.

**What do you dislike about Localist?**

Some of the interfaces seem a little clunky and disorganized. Sometimes the admin side of things can be a little troublesome to navigate and use a bunch. it works, but sometimes it seems it takes a little while to get where i need to and use a bunch of clicks to get there. I would like if there was a better opportunity to build email templates and newsletters within localist and than automate messages through there. We do a lot of manual work to take information out of localist and put it in a separate system to build out a newsletter. I think there could also be a better way to integrate social media into the platform.

**Recommendations to others considering Localist:**

Make a better native newsletter feature that can be branded. we had to build out custom integrations to feed information from localist into a separate, branded HTML template. It took more work to do that than what i think should be available with an in-house solution where you could brand and build a template within localist without having to outsource it.

we use it to manage a widespread community and all of their events, there are over 25 events across campus each day from numerous different organizations that cover so many different affinity groups. Localist has really done a nice job of allowing outlets for all these groups to promote their events and find new members. they've done a nice job pivoting to provide a lot of options for online events during the COVID pandemic.

Localist has dramatically reduced the time and steps involved in advertising our seminars and events. It is a one-stop shop and the ability to target audiences and include keywords makes it an effective way for our campus population to filter and/or subscribe to events they care about so they are always "in the know".

The copying events functionality is a little bit clunky. I would like some added functionality for creating seminars within a weekly/monthly repeating series that have a different title/speaker/date each time but with all other factors remaining constant.

We had to create our own promotion mailing lists prior to using Localist and it was very hard to target audiences effectively. We also had to post the same event on multiple websites with different content management systems. Now we just link it all to Localist.

Localist is a great solution for centralizing organizational events. We bring events from other source systems into the solution to give us a holistic view of our events. We defined specific event types and implemented several calendar views to control which events are visible to our audiences. Our userbase is very happy with the tool and our marketing team enjoys the additional functionalities offered in the solution, such as a featured event carousel. Most visual aspects of the system can also be customized to match organizational branding requirements so the calendar system almost looks as if it was developed in house.

**What do you dislike about Localist?**

Localist is a premier product so you can expect the price to reflect this. Our implementation also could have gone a bit more smoothly. At the time of our implementation, they offered a payment solution for event registration. However, this would have caused an issue in our environment as it only worked with Stripe.

**Recommendations to others considering Localist:**

If you have a need to centralize your organizational events or are struggling with event communication and engagement, Localist might be a solution worth considering.

**What problems is Localist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Prior to using Localist, our organization didn't have a centralized solution for hosting events and we had several internal groups that had no mechanism for publishing their events. Event-related communications were inconsistent and often ineffective. Since implementing the solution, we've seen a large increase in the amount of events viewable by our userbase and a jump in user satisfaction.

It includes basically all you’d need from a user standpoint. Registration, room booking, social features - it’s got it all.

There are strange limitations to the API in regards to recurring events. The IDs for events also changed without proper notice causing a rework of a third party implementation.

If you don’t need to handle custom recurrences in a completely rebuilt front end interface I can wholeheartedly endorse Localist. It does have issues with IDs when pulling all the data out for recurring events.

Localist gave our clients a fairly nicely designed events system with registration and social integration out of the box that was easily skinnable to their branding.

I've lost track of how many extra clicks go into tagging events, but it feels like a lot. A couple of parts (such as with virtual events) can be a little tricky for new users.
