**Reviewed by:** Vanshika T. | Software Engineer, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 26, 2022

**What do you like best about Linux Mint?**

I use the cinnamon flavor of the Linux mint. The best thing about this distro OS is that it is based on Ubuntu and Debian. Linux mint is an open-source and lightweight OS. It is very easy to install and takes less installation time than windows. It has an easy-to-use interface and can easily be customized according to our needs. It is somewhat similar to Windows, making it easy to use for Windows users too.

**What do you dislike about Linux Mint?**

This OS is not for gamers as it is lightweight, so it has some limitations regarding GUI. There are some issues in installation with some pcs, like mismatched kernel, some features not being available etc. We can't upgrade our system without taking backup as it fails sometimes.

**What problems is Linux Mint solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I need a powerful and multitasking OS for my work; Linux mint fulfills my requirements. It takes less memory usage with high performance with speed. I am not a gamer, so it is perfectly done with my work without any problems.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Manuel L. | GIS Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 03, 2023

**What do you like best about Linux Mint?**

It is a lightweight distro with a very intuitive interface. Coming from Windows and MacOS it was easy to install and get going. For me its a good introduction to Linux with good pre-packaged programs and easy to use software store to directly download some of the most common programs without the need to know commands.

**What do you dislike about Linux Mint?**

Because it is so lightweight, it's also missing quite a few dependencies, making the use of the sudo apt install command a bit more challenging for someone new to Linux like myself.

**What problems is Linux Mint solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our company recently upgraded our workstations to newer PCs leaving several older but still functional computers to be recycled. We installed Linux Mint on several and used them for many tasks, such as vector drawings in Inkscape or 3D model editing in Blender. They are also helpful for batch converting between file types. This frees up some of our workstations for smaller tasks.

Linux Mint has a beautiful UI that runs under a stable ubuntu version (22.04). The EOL support is now until 2027, providing excellent user security. The Out Of the Box software manager allows access to the most useful and popular apps, along with user reviews and the latest software versions.

**What do you dislike about Linux Mint?**

The OS is huge in terms of sizing and requires a reasonably bigger machine to run. The OS also has a reasonably smaller community than Ubuntu and runs a version or two older than it.

**What problems is Linux Mint solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Since Linux mint is a debian-based OS, any testing related to apps/OS for Debian can be performed much faster. Since its an open source product we can save a lot of licensing costs for a lot of users without compromising on the features.

  ### 14. Its Ubuntu, but better!

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arjun R. | Associate Software Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 21, 2022

**What do you like best about Linux Mint?**

It's an upgraded version of Ubuntu by the Linux Community. Compared to ubuntu, it contains more open-source applications and more multimedia codec support. But the real change as compared to ubuntu is the GUI change, which is quite similar to Windows 7/Vista themes. Its been released 16 years ago, yet updates are being done periodically by the community, which makes the OS catch up with modern technological advancements and support for new hardware enhancements as well. Talking about performance, Linux Mint provides better performance and an easy GUI experience as compared to Ubuntu. Its mainly used by beginners.

**What do you dislike about Linux Mint?**

First and foremost, not all applications that work on ubuntu will not work on Linux Mint. There is a lack of a device manager. Even though it is a community-driven OS, the community is not large as compared to Ubuntu.

**What problems is Linux Mint solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Linux Mint is mainly used for web browsing, productivity/office work, graphic designing, accessing cloud services, etc. It is one of the fastest open-source alternatives to Windows 7/XP.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 12, 2022

**What do you like best about Linux Mint?**

The main thing I like about Mint is, that it is very user-friendly and customisable, most of the useful apps are preinstalled in the OS, and the Software Manager is also really good.

**What do you dislike about Linux Mint?**

I dislike the UI of this Operating system, I'm not much likely to this UI. always looking for an alternate UI Gnome for mint.
Also, the device manager is not there which is also a big dislike part from my side.

**Recommendations to others considering Linux Mint:**

Go for Mint OS if you want to explore another variant of Linux distros. but have a sure that device manager won't be available.

Apart from that, if you are a developer, and need a complete package of what you are working for, you can also go with Mint OS.

**What problems is Linux Mint solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used this operating system as my primary OS, in which I have developed many projects it is very user friendly and it is also good for a home standalone PC which has a full multimedia drivers setup.

I like the opportunity to choose from the several different Graphic environment, such as Cinnamon, Mate and especially XFCE, usually I use this for my laptops, and it shows the Great responsibility and usability, consumpting less resources that the other competitors.

**What do you dislike about Linux Mint?**

I would like to have the repository update more irten, but for the debian derivations and Ubuntu-like distros, it is update quite often. I wouelike to see the bleeding edge kernels to be tested and available for this distro as well as the latest drivers.

**Recommendations to others considering Linux Mint:**

Try yourself and then decide what flavour fits yiu the Best - Cinnamon, Mate, LMDE or XFCE

**What problems is Linux Mint solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With help of such distros as Linux mint we solved the problems of usage of the outdated hardware, which is not support Windows 11 and other new operative systems

**Reviewed by:** Ulf T. | Head of IT (Consultant), Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Linux Mint?**

The easy of use and speed. It is also very easy to install other apps from the repository (App Store). It is so easy even my mother at 79 years can use it.
The installation is so easy, it beats Windows installation with miles. Even faster than installing MacOS

**What do you dislike about Linux Mint?**

If you are a gamer the support is not as good as in Windows. Getting drivers for some graphics cards can also be a bit messy. One really have to do some investigation before shopping for graphic cards

**What problems is Linux Mint solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am mostly using web applications. I am also in love with the different photo management applications that exist for Linux. I find them way better than anything on Mac or Linux.

  ### 35. Decent OS for low powered machines

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Monica S. | Marketing Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 18, 2022

**What do you like best about Linux Mint?**

I like that this OS works very well on old machines with relatively lower hardware configurations. I was able to run this on my old 2005 Macbook. It was able to support all applications for simple browsing.

**What do you dislike about Linux Mint?**

Since this is a lighter version of the OS, the features are limited. Also, GUI is very limited, unlike the other distributions of Linux. However, it does get the job done for simpler deployments and if the requirements are limited to light browsing.

**What problems is Linux Mint solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The most significant one is that it is very light, and it can successfully run on older hardware with limited resources. It makes the older machines useful again for limited purposes.

  ### 36. Very LightWeight OS

It is removing the requirement to have high configuration systems thus the cost.

  ### 37. Linux mint for IT and business Analytics organization

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vivek B. | Customer Support Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 03, 2022

**What do you like best about Linux Mint?**

CLI of linux and optimization and if you are a developer then you are best suitable for linux environment and most importantly the updates you get on time also

**What do you dislike about Linux Mint?**

Most unlikely is the user interface and the feature less even if the feature is there then you 'll have to search it inside the settings or function, for each feature you wanna use then you 'll have to download the package through Linux CLI

**Recommendations to others considering Linux Mint:**

If you looking for your small organization or where your work doesn't have much load then linux mint is one of your choice as OS is free and with security and updates on time and data also remains secure as linux environment is quite secure and please do check the UI is not friendly compare to other Linux based OS

**What problems is Linux Mint solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am generally solving my company infrastructure environment and their business running on the whole linux based environment and I am working as system administrator.

  ### 38. Ready-to-use Linux OS with elegant UI and good settings

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Siraset J. | Lead Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2021

**What do you like best about Linux Mint?**

Ui for configuration and Preinstalled applications gave me a feeling of ready-to-go. No need more additional settings to make it ready to use.

**What do you dislike about Linux Mint?**

Lots of preinstalled applications make me confuse sometimes. Kubuntu desktop is my favorite component, but it seems like the latest version does not support it

**Recommendations to others considering Linux Mint:**

This distro is a good fit for users who don't want to get in trouble with setting up anything. It provides enough applications for doing many things like coding, relaxing, movie, and gaming. And also easy to install

**What problems is Linux Mint solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My team likes to use Linux, especially ubuntu. But we need something (os) look elegant and user friendly to ship with our product. Ubuntu gives us a pretty generic UI. So Mint is a better fit for our problem

  ### 39. Linux Mint is an excellent Ubuntu based distribution most suited to desktop use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Libraries | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 09, 2021

**What do you like best about Linux Mint?**

Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu, so it already has a really solid foundation. It allows you to choose which desktop you want, Cinnamon, MATE or XFCE. Mint has been designed to put a whole lot of polish on top of Ubuntu to make the desktop experience much better. This includes polish on desktop themes and colours, beautiful backgrounds to choose from, and many apps most users need come pre-installed.

**What do you dislike about Linux Mint?**

There is nothing I really dislike about Linux Mint itself. The only thing I can say is that sometimes I have had problems with display when running through VirtualBox. I have had the blank / black screen problem or the distorted screen problem when running through VirtualBox at times. Often it can be fixed by tweaking the display adapter settings in VirtualBox. Also I would warn about upgrading versions of VirtualBox - sometimes doing this can make your existing virtual machine start failing. Be sure to backup first.

**What problems is Linux Mint solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Linux Mint as one of my development desktops, I run it in VirtualBox on a Windows 10 host. I do all my Node.JS and MongoDB based development on this machine. The OS is near identical to the server I deploy to, so that is certainly a bonus. It has given me a polished, fully-featured, attractive and most importantly free development desktop!

  ### 40. Excellent Operating System

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Blayne C. | IT Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 25, 2019

**What do you like best about Linux Mint?**

This version of Linux is easy for Microsoft Windows users to use and figure out. Mint has the drivers and software that I use every day.
I enjoy the software and system update facility. Everything is able to be updated via the graphical "Update Manager". Updates can be set to automatically download and apply without user intervention if desired.

**What do you dislike about Linux Mint?**

Once in a while with new hardware and the kernel version I want to run a driver may not be available. This can be mitigated by building a driver for the kernel and hardware. This does take a little time and research so I'm writing about this in the "what do you dislike" section. However, this is really something I like is that nearly anything is possible with this OS.

**Recommendations to others considering Linux Mint:**

Linux Mint is an excellent choice for users moving from the Microsoft Windows environment. Mint has a similar look and feel. The terminology for some of the utilities in the operating system are different even though the utilities do the same things. Examples: "Task Manager" is "System Monitor" in Mint; a "Shortcut" is a "Launcher"; etc.

**What problems is Linux Mint solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Better utilities to work with data. Many of the 3rd party programs that are used on Windows are simply built-in to the Linux operating system. Just by using Linux has solved some of the file organization issues we used to have with Windows.

  ### 41. Is very easy to install, is intuitive, a small OS

**What do you like best about Linux Mint?**

User friendly OS unlike other Linux distributions. Regular updates. Eye candy desktop and improved speed on working at various software

**What do you dislike about Linux Mint?**

Power usage is enormous because of this processor clocks at full speed almost all the time and when we use it in laptops battery backup reduces significantly

**Recommendations to others considering Linux Mint:**

User friendly

**What problems is Linux Mint solving and how is that benefiting you?**

If we Change I/O configuration we are good to go. Cinnamon desktop is the best as far i used

  ### 44. Best Linux OS

Very easy to use and install. It is far better than Windows OS. My 8-year-old sister can also easily use and understand it. No unnecessary software is pre-installed in it.

**What do you dislike about Linux Mint?**

Gaming in Linux is not a good choice. And the alternative of MS Office in this is not very much useful. Rest is all good and useful.

**What problems is Linux Mint solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Being a developer, it is best for my code work and deployment. Easy to install packages with some command. And very easy to build a server.

  ### 45. A windows like experience with the magic of debian linux

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dipesh P. | Junior Architect, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 22, 2021

**What do you like best about Linux Mint?**

- Simple UI that is inspired by Windows Explorer, a great deal of community support. All this without hogging too many system resources. Works like a charm on older devices too.

**What do you dislike about Linux Mint?**

- Poor driver support. Font rendering issues pop up now & then. Few iterations behind the Ubuntu OS, the very OS Linux mint is derived from
- Way lighter than the Windows OS, but consumes more resources than the Ubuntu OS, because of its Cinnamon UI.

**What problems is Linux Mint solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Comes installed with a bunch of tools installed which makes developers' lives easier. Navigation is very much similar to windows so developers can get adjusted to it relatively faster than if they are made to use Ubuntu.

**What do you dislike about Linux Mint?**

Device manager is not allowed. It is too large . We require capable machineto run it. No PPA is supported. Not everything related to ubuntu will work with mint

**What problems is Linux Mint solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Linux mint design is very interactive and easy to use. It is Powerful and configurable. Linux mint provide long term support releases for 5 years.

  ### 47. A great OS for developer who is coming from Windows

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Prashant W. | Application Development Team Lead, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 22, 2021

**What do you like best about Linux Mint?**

- Mint makes understanding Linux easier as it has UI that is similar to Windows to a great extent. Even the installation is pretty much straightforward with clear instructions.

**What do you dislike about Linux Mint?**

- The MS office alternatives the Linux mint comes installed with arent as feature-rich as MS office. You are better using Google Docs Instead which makes it a little inconvenient as files are stored on the cloud.

**What problems is Linux Mint solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- A good developer-friendly O.S who feels comfortable with Windows and has a problem with Gnome UI and its navigations. It doesn't incorporate features that are still in experimental stage. So the probability of breaking the O.S upon installing something new is very less.
